This card is geared toward union members, and offers discounts and benefits meant for union members, so we have to assume that this card is so popular only because of aggressive union-centric marketing. But the bottom line is, if you qualify to get this card, then there is a better card elsewhere that you also qualify for.
Here's our beef:
Rewards should be your main priority if you are able to pay off your credit card bill each month. You can easily find a great credit card for rewards, which should net you something like 2% or more in reward rebates. The Union Plus doesn't pay rewards.
The biggest incentive advertised by the Union Plus is access to "exclusive discounts", but they're hardly exclusive. Most issuers offer similar, if not better, discounts and coupons through their own online malls.
If you carry a balance month-to-month, you can find a low interest card for your own level of credit.
No matter what, a card with no annual fee is pretty easy to come by, instead of paying this card's annoying $0-$39 sliding scale annual fee.
