Speaking on the Que Golazo podcast, Fabrizio Romano has named three midfielders that Arsenal could go for in the January transfer window.
The Italian journalist was talking about Dominik Szoboszlai’s release clause and the clubs that are interested in him, and as you can imagine, this led to a discussion about Arsenal’s January plans.
Romano says that Arsenal are a team worth keeping an eye on when it comes to the race for Szoboszlai, but he said they could also go for Christian Eriksen or Houssem Aouar.
“Like I say, keep an eye on Arsenal, because they exactly need this kind of player, I don’t know if this will be Szoboszlai, it could be another one like Eriksen and obviously the situation of Aouar with Lyon.
“They will go for this kind of player with something magic and I expect something special from Arsenal.”
Romano is always very reliable when it comes to this type of thing, so this is incredibly interesting to hear.
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Arsenal want an attack-minded midfielder through the door in January, after all, they’ve been struggling for goals and they haven’t had that type of playmaker in the team since Mesut Ozil was frozen out of the squad.
Rumours have circulated that Ozil could leave in January, so any of these three could act as his replacement.
The question remains, which transfer do Arsenal go for? Szoboszlai is the young option who could be a key player for the best part of the next decade, Eriksen is the tried and tested option who is seemingly on the decline, while Aouar is another exciting talent who has proven himself in a top league.
Edu and Mikel Arteta need to have a serious discussion if these are in fact the three transfers they’re considering at Arsenal.
