My phone has not rung for years. I have tried to get magicJack to help with the problem, but every time I was able to get a person on the line, an attempt was made to sell me an upgrade. I have tried to port my number to another provider on several occasions, but magicJack ignores the request or says they do not have the right information. Now they have emailed me to see if they can help with my problem. When I called the number given, it was sales again. I have had it with them holding me hostage. I have to download every call that is made to my number and answer it later. People who are calling me get a message and no immediate response from me. That makes me look bad.

I wish I could have gave it a negative 100. It was insanely bad. I had Vonage. It was fantastic, great service. But I saw this company, 39.99 for a year. Thought it was too good to be true. So, I reluctantly left Vonage to give them a try. And I was right. It was too good to be true. I have had the same number with Vonage for over 10 years. Every person and every business I dealt with had it. When it came to porting over to magicJack, they said there was a fee of 9.99 to do so. So, I said fine, did not want to lose the number so I paid it. Well, 3 days later I get a email saying they do apologize, but the number cannot be ported. And also in that email it said that "your services at this time are not working" after paying the 39.99. So I replied to the email. 2 weeks later I got a response. Still no service the entire time. And they said they don't know why the number cannot be ported, or why my services are not working. "You need to contact customer support."

And I googled a number, but the only way to get in touch with them is through live chat. So, I contacted live chat after waiting 2 hours to speak with a representative. (be prepared to spend all day long with them). So I first asked why my number could not be ported. They said it was a charge of 9.99. Told them I already paid the fee, and they said that they have no record of it and to pay it now and the number will be ported. I said "will I be reimbursed if I am charged twice," they said I would be, so like an idiot I paid it again. They said "it takes up to 72 hours for the port. And if it does not work contact us back." Then, I asked why for over two weeks now my services have not been working. They said that "you paid for the first year, not the activation and 911 fees." And that "you have to do a 3-5 year "plan" and pay for that before your services can be activated."

When I asked why that information was not included in the box, they said "no room on box for it." So, I asked "if I do this once activated, the 30 no questions asked refund policy starts right?" They said "yes, if you do not like it after 30 days you get a full refund." So, I paid almost 300 dollars to get the 3 year plan. Number was ported, services started working, doing good for 2.5 weeks. Then it started dropping calls, not connecting calls, calls where all static. So, again, I contacted live chat, again another 2 hours wait. Told them what was going on, and they apologized for the poor service. And after 30 min of "troubleshooting", they said they could not fix it. "I am transferring you to a senior agent." Got one, they said "I have to go in to your computer remotely." I said sure. 2 hours later they said it was the computer and to contact customer support of the computer manufacturer.

I said it was a brand new computer, and I have them on the line and they said it has nothing to do with the computer. (Plus, I am a computer tech), so I know it was not the computer. And they said that "you have a bad device, it would be 29.99 for a replacement." I asked "if I get the replacement, if I cancel it will I get reimbursed for it?" They said "yes". To make sure I kept it in 30 day return policy, I paid $20 for overnight shipping. Got it, worked great for 3 days, failed. 4 days left before the return period was over. Spent another 2 hours to speak with a representative. Told them everything, and said "I want everything canceled and reimbursed for everything but shipping." They said that I was in the window for that, and it was a possibility. After trying everything to keep me a customer, I said "nothing you can do to keep me." So, they canceled everything, said it would take 2 billing cycles to show the refund of almost $500.

Well, 2 billing cycles later, I got a refund of only 200. Spent another day on live chat. They said that "you can only be reimbursed for the 149 and 40." I said I have the printout of the chat saying I would be reimbursed for everything. They said "fax it in to West Palm Beach". I did. Then 2 weeks later said the same thing. I threaten them with a lawsuit, within 3 days was reimbursed all 500. Should not take threats to be reimbursed what they promised. Should not have customer service representatives that do not know what they are doing. WORSE COMPANY EVER. DO NOT USE. HORRIBLE.

I have been with magicJack for years and it seems like every time it's time to renew I have problems! A LOT OF PROBLEMS!!! Every renewal I'm hassled about buying something new! This I really can't stand! Like I stated in the begin I have been with magicJack for about 8 years and this last transaction just might be my last renewal. With you can and ask the technician why has my phone been turned off and they tell you because you haven't paid the bill, but when I look at my account its says "paid up till 2019"!!! After 2.5 hours on with them and 3 technicians later I find out that the money was going to the wrong account! Stop making to so difficult to renew! Plain and simple.

Magic Jack has the worst customer service ever! I ordered MagicJack and received the device promptly. It really seemed effortless and the deal seemed "too good to be true." Well the deal was too good to be true. First off, I had another Voip service - I wanted to port my number from. I completed the activation of my magicjack device on line and hooked it up and disconnected my other Voip equipment. I did not cancel my other Voip service because I wanted to port my phone number.

I paid the additional $10.00 plus porting fee and completed the request form on line. It was several hours later I received an email stating the porting process failed because my address did not match the address on the other Voip service account. I verified my address with the other voip service provider and the address on my magicjack service. The address was exactly the same. I put in help tickets with magicjack and the other voip service provider attempting to get my number ported. I contacted customer support via their online chat several times. This was fruitless and a complete waste of time. I would have been better off talking to my beautiful painted walls in my home. After 14 days and several hours on the chat line help the situation had pushed me to my limits and I was getting the same run around daily.

I cancelled my service and completed the online RMA form. I printed it off and sent my device back to magicjack. The device came with a 30 day money back guarantee. I sent the device back with a tracking label to ensure it was properly returned. It has been nearly a week since the USPS confirmed the device was returned and I have played online some more with the online customer support folks and I still do not have a refund of the device, my porting fee that failed, or the fee I paid for the 911 service! Buyer beware! Avoid magicjack unless you want to customer support and no phone! This company is a scam! They stole my $100.00 and I was foolish enough to send them their device back thinking I would get my money back.

I want to start by saying that I have used magicJack for years. I have defended them against many who have dogged them. I bought one of the original magicJack device that can only plug into your computer. That device flat out died. So a few years ago, I bought the magicJack Plus. Used it and had no problem with it. I have renewed my subscription to a 5-year deal. Two years into it, my phone subscription said it had expired. So the device is working, but it was not communicating with their server. After hours of troubleshooting we finally found out what was the problem. Techs tried to reset my account saying it should be resolved, but that did not resolve the issue. I had to plug the device directly into my computer. It came back with invalid serial number. At first the tech told me it's not corrupt or else it would give a different error.

After continuing to troubleshoot, tech found that the serial number was indeed invalid. Now the tech changed his/her tone saying my device has gone bad. Technician's words, "Windows Update, router firmware or software updates, electrical power outage, internet connection outage or thunderstorm may have affect the magicJack's core information".

Even though I did not do any router update and my magicJack device was not plugged into my computer, I told the tech that a router update cannot affect the firmware of another device. Tech continued to argue the point. My point is that obviously magicJack made some updates and their servers are no longer recognizing old devices, but they did not warn me about it nor replace my device. They are sticking to the fact that my device is broken even though signs show nothing wrong with it. Stay away from this company. They do not care about their customers. I have been with them for over 7 years and they will not work with me. It's too bad.

WARNING. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Magicjack is the worse company I have ever dealt with. They have NO product help. No live phone service. They have something that they call Live Assistance via an online messaging system but these people are useless. They have no idea what they are doing. They don't understand the simplest of questions or answers. They don't know the product or how to fix the simplest of problems. They will try to sell you a new product if you have a problem with your old device.

All service is done in a foreign country by poorly trained people. You can not extend your existing service if you buy a new device. You cannot port over your old contacts list or call history to a new device. Registering a new device is a gargantuan task. The service reps will disconnect you before you have resolved the problem. They will give you a bogus or disconnected call back number. HOW IS THIS COMPANY STILL IN BUSINESS???

I tried to use their text message system for customer service... but Trixia dropped me... and hung up. The original MagicJack ads showed the inventor with his daughter. They seemed very wholesome. I have a 5-year contract and they just keep renewing even though it is not working. I have spent hours and hours with what they call customer service (it actually has no relationship to customer service at all) and it is a complete waste of time. Find another service. I have two magicJack devices and when they work, they work, most of the time... There are many phone calls I attempt that either will not go through for no reason... or at least no explanation. When I renewed my device, I renewed the wrong one. I wanted to call them to resolve it, but they don't want to be bothered by such calls. In fact, they offer a phone # to call, but when you call it, you are directed to the website. Here you are expected to resolve your issue by chat with reps that barely speak (let alone read or write English).

After spending 15-20 minutes trying to find a number to call, I accepted the fact that my only choice was to chat. I think what they do is teach these poor people to write two or three phrases, "Yes... I understand... Please allow me to work on that..." In the meantime, they do not understand the nature of the problem, let alone how to resolve it. I asked for a refund, and will not go back to this ** company. The owner is probably sitting on his private island laughing his fat ** off.

I purchased a Magic Jack plus in 2013, extended it out to a 5-year contract with a physical replacement warranty if it would ever fail. It failed and I went to the online customer service for help and they would not replace it since I had misplaced it. I asked if I bought another unit to replace until I found the missing device and they said that would work. Unfortunately for me I did that. All they do is talk in circles and refuse to replace the device that is under warranty. They want to transfer it to the working unit basically making me pay for my replacement. First they said I had to deactivate the new Go device and reactivate the plus device to get the plus device replaced. Now that I finally agreed to that they have nothing but excuses and still will not replace it.

It turned out that I cannot use the phone # I picked. Each time someone calls it displays random phone numbers on people's phones. Also there are no options whatsoever on MagicJack computer app. You can call via mobile App if you are OK with random phone numbers being displayed for you. I take it is FALSE ADVERTISING: You have to pay for service AND for phone number Additionally. They don't say this on the website. I am cancelling my account NOW and putting this new MJ PLUS in the trash. P.S. Free Android app gave me FREE PHONE CALLS AND FREE NUMBER. My magicJack has not worked since I got it. After speaking and being passed to 3 different individuals through the "live chat" and spending over 2 hours troubleshooting online the conclusion was made I have a "faulty port" on my MagicJack. This was after one tech would be stumped and pass me onto the next one, who logged on my laptop with my permission to continue to waste my time and then put me with another individual who told me to try another laptop and another phone. Which with all the problems I have had since purchasing my MagicJack I did go out to buy a new phone to find out my phone was fine and it was THEIR equipment that was bad. I haven't been able to use it for most of the year since I purchased and have used my cell phone in place of it.

I called their so called "customer care" (aka ROBOTS) which is just appalling to have to try and talk to and wasted another hour and lost brain cells dealing with that mess of a call center. I even asked multiple times to speak to a supervisor or manager and guess what, they don't have any available with phones! What?!? I mean seriously. The biggest lie of the century to not have to deal with their customers! I am livid after wasting HOURS of my day dealing with incompetent staff of MagicJack to then being told I have to PAY for a replacement to the piece of crap they sent me. It is a joke! I have had magicJack for several years now without issue. When it came time to renew my account on 2/20/16 I went online 10 days early to do it properly. However for some reason it "didn't take". 10 days later I am receiving numerous phone calls and emails telling me to renew. Nothing had come out of my account yet so I called. I recorded that lengthy conversation to renew giving all proper info (cc#, address etc.). Now today the phone is cut off.

After reading the reviews here I have chosen to give up. I do not need it that bad. If you are looking for a company that is impossible to deal with and you are completely ok with only speaking with individuals that english is a second language and even the broken English is impossible to understand, well then this is the company for you! I give up. So far no money has been taken from my account, unlike some of the other reviews and it better not. I asked what the administration fee was for and was told taxes, and when I called them out on that I was told it was for the less fortunate. All BS. Save yourself time, frustration, and money. I received an email from magicJack notifying me that my service renews soon (I refuse to renew more than one year at a time because of problems I've had with them in the past). It goes on to say "Thank you for opting to automatically renew your magicJack plus" and lists my number. It then states the Renewal Time: Next 60 days. It says that I will receive an email with the order details prior to the credit card charge for service renewal. NONE OF THIS HAPPENED. The next thing I know I get a voice message on my phone saying that my magicJack Plus has been canceled and that I should plug in my magicJack Plus into my computer so that I could be prompted through the re-subscription process. I did this but nothing happened.

I then logged into my magicJack account to see 3 separate red banners with account names alerting me that they need renewal. I had cancelled one of the accounts 2 years before but it keeps coming back (including email notices to the person whose name was associated with the phone number even though I was paying for it from my account!). I did not recognize one of the other banners named My Desktop that was requesting renewal and guessed that magicJack had created it due to a hassle I had with them when I renewed last year so did not select it. I selected the banner with my name on it (the third banner) and it took me to a site that asked if I wanted to renew for another year for $10.78. I clicked yes not remembering what I paid last year and thought that I had renewed my subscription.

I received a receipt by email stating that my number had been renewed for a year. I unplugged my magicJack Plus and waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in to reboot it, tried my phone only to get the same message that my subscription had been cancelled. I noticed a phone number listed on the email to call regarding problems which I did with tremendous trepidation because of the insanely frustrating chat room discussions I'd had with them in the past. I called and could not even begin to describe my confusion with resubscribing before this guy with an almost unintelligible accent started chattering at me that I needed to upgrade my magicJack because it was obsolete.

When I informed him that I did not use the old magicJack unit he was referring to and that I had upgraded to a magicJack plus 2 years before he offered to solve all my problems by upgrading my subscription to a 5-year plan. When I couldn't get him to shut up long enough to describe my problem I became frustrated and, due to past similar situations with magicJack's support staff, started to escalate my rudeness. All I wanted after all was for him to guide me through magicJack's deliberately obfuscated website to renew my subscription. Rather than help me he told me that any 5-year could do it. Naturally that set me off and prompted me to respond "then why can't you? you arrogant little...!" He then said he was passing me off to someone more senior and the line went dead.

I returned to the website and fixed my own problem by discovering that, rather than simply presenting the subscriber with the items of their current subscription so that they can renew (i.e. items with a checkbox beside them) and the customary proceed to checkout prompt, magicJack has designed their process to be as layered and ambiguous as possible in order to confuse their clients into buying something they don't need or want, double order (which is easy to do), accidentally revive dormant subscriptions and all manner of other cheesy strategies to take their clients money. I am now in the process of finding another VOIP service. Enough insult. Even the line service sucks most of the time.

Magic Jack. What's so Magic about it? One thing it is cheap telephone communication but if you can stand the mistakes, the worst customer service, and unnecessary problem they give you, like unauthorized charges and many attempts to get to talk to someone, recorded say "you will be answered in 10 minutes", you're lucky if you don't get cut off after 20/30 minutes and when someone answers he or she don't understand you nor you her or him, you both get frustrated but you want result and he/she wants to get rid of you so if can't do it nicely will cut you off or will tell you have to switch you to the right department and puts you back to where you were when first call. So after 30/40 minutes you are back to where you started. This happened to me so many times with this co.

Another thing you watch out is unauthorized charges. I pay for one subscription $37.73. A week later they charge second time for the same thing. Jan. 01, 2016 I ordered a new Magic Jack promo. Came with one year subscription for $48.46. They charge me subscription on tot. I spend 90 minutes on and off with the customer service with 3 attempts and was cut off. Had to call my credit card co. to open a charge back recovery case. The c/card co. wants you to try resolving it between before you call them. So that to explain that, 4 times unauthorized charges last January to this one. So what a nightmare with this outfit. Good luck and lots of patience.

I used the original magicJack for several years and it was operating fine, then all of a sudden the reception and connections were bad. I was told that my pc was old, which it was, so I upgraded my PC and bought a new PC/MS Windows 10. I was also told I need to upgrade the magicJack to MJ GO. I bought a magicJack GO. I installed it and, the phone was activated and made 1 or 2 calls, then the service was disrupted: no dial tone, or other people could not hear me, or the phone rings once, then no reception. I contacted the "Live chat" tech support and spent hours and hours daily on a daily basis to have the problem fixed without result. First you wait a very long time to get a operator who cannot help, then you get transferred to someone who can help you fix the problem remotely, and they give you a chat ID# and you start the wait all over again, and sometimes you end up with a message to try later (after waiting 4-5 hours).

If you are trying to have the problems fixed via remote access it is not simple (I was asked to download JAVA, to download a different browser either Firefox, or Internet Explorer 11. So I downloaded Firefox, and they were unable to access pc remotely. So I was asked to download Google Chrome and make it as my default browser so they can access my pc remotely... and was unable to get someone to help me again after waiting 3-4 hours, and was told to try again later.

When I upgraded and bought the magicJack "GO", I was to receive free service for one year (in addition to the free 3 month that I got with $65 magic jack GO).

So I technically have 15 months of services, and I have not been able to get the problem fixed for 2 months. They even gave me the date of the first payment, which was a year ahead. I keep checking the internet and it is working OK. The Live Chat customer Tech Support is not effective, it is slow, and does not address the problems. You have to start very early in the day to do the live chat, and plan on staying with the live chat ALL DAY, otherwise you will be told to try at another time.

I bought a magicJack from Best Buy and the box had a sticker which advertised "NO CONTRACT, ONE YEAR FREE SERVICE". I installed it and, following the instructions on the box, I activated it on their website. Then, I received a notice that the phone was activated and that I was to receive free service for one year. They even gave me the date of the first payment, which was a year ahead. The phone worked (reception was fair, but not great). Then, two days later there was no reception, just a message that said, "error, check your internet connection". I check it and the internet was working ok. So, I called the customer service and they said that the account was not activated because I had not signed up for a "plan". They offered me a 3 or 5-year plan. The 3-year plan was like $149/year. I told them that the box said "no contract" but they insisted that the "plan" was not a contract!

Also, they said that just last week they changed the terms of their agreement. I asked them why they didn't advertise the plans on the box and they said there wasn't enough room on the box to do this. What kind of racket is this? If they had told upfront the cost of the product, I might have agreed to it. But when they try to deceive me in this way, I feel abused. So, I disconnected the device and returned it to the store.

To use the device, it needs to be plugged into a computer and ethernet cable and a power supply. It isn't small and the connections aren't very well made. This means that unless all the devices are absolutely still (and even then) it is impossible to maintain a connection. After 18 months it was impossible to connect, so I got on with technical support. $24 for a replacement. The power supply plug has not been redesigned. To buy a new one cost $19.95 but then you can't transfer your subscription. OK, so I call. First I am told, it will be 5 minutes. Then it goes up to 9 minutes, then 25 minutes later, it disconnects me. Hmm... I wish I didn't have to do business with these people, and hope I have saved you the trouble.

I have to unplug the MagicJack device from power to "Reset" it. This could happen multiple times during the day. When I called customer service about it they told me to just reset the device... Ummm yes this does solve the issues for that moment. The customer service rep. said there is nothing they can do about it and if the device does this to just reset it... Wow... So take my pain and do not use this device. Fortunately I only paid for the year service plan. As soon as I can I will put this in the garbage.

I have 3 magic number and it was working fine. Then yesterday I found out that the new MJ number I just registered to anDroid phone has all the account info and I get live help to how to not show up my account on that phone which is used by an employee and I did not want them to have access to my account. Problem start because my Canadian number got disconnected from my iPhone and they could not reconnect it. They told me to purchased an app for $14.99 a month and choose a US number. I told them I just want it restored and I don't want to need another number.

Yesterday the help after giving me instruction that does not work just said, "I gave you all instruction and I'm disconnecting you," and just like that. Today I tried to get help again and I just asked for the number to be restored but I was told Canadian number cannot be used on iPhone and I said but all time it was working on my iPhone with no problem. She said just registered on the device not apps. So I asked for instruction how to do it. During this call I got disconnected many times more than actual communication. More than 5 minutes each time we're talking about more than 20 reconnection and I am so frustrated. This help are not help at all. If they can't solve your problem they Put on disconnected. I saved these record. How can a company as big as MJ can't have decent help to their customers. I feel frustrated and stressed about this problem. I have purchased a MJ I can't use.

Stay away from magicJack. A few months after you pay 5 years up front, the phone service all of a sudden becomes HORRENDOUS. IT'S INTENTIONAL! They charge you a $35 porting fee to roll your number over to them. When the service becomes unusable, they charge a porting fee (RANSOM FEE) to release your number back to your old carrier. MEANWHILE your old carrier wants $35 to bring you back and $35 to turn your service back on ($70). Then MJ keeps the $120 5 years of service money saying it's non-refundable. MJ customer service will try to get another $59 out of you to buy a new MJ box saying there is a problem with your MJ. When their servers become overwhelmed, they shove out the old customers to make room for new unsuspecting customers. The Florida Attorney General’s office must be getting a kickback from MJ. They won't do nothing. "Come," said the spider to the fly!

One evening while working on the "fix" the Tech told me to shut down my computer and re-boot to try to get their software to fix the Magic Jack. I said, "won't this disconnect our chat?" Nowadays if you do not have customer service and satisfaction you will not survive. The problem I am having and I can see by looking at other complaints is dropping calls, cannot hear or be heard. Customer service is despicable. They do not chat in english well at all and there is no phone number to call for support. The line drops very often during calls or the other side can't hear us. There is no clear documentation on what you get with the service as far as features go. The app for smartphones lacks fluidity. It's complicated to manage account if you even know where to go or how to do it in the first place. Back to support, I chatted with 3 agents for hours with no success. Out of 10 questions about the service I pay for, not even 1 was answered clearly or completely (we didn't get to the other 9 questions).

We've cancelled our landline of 20 years for this and will have to pay large to get it back if we decide to get a refund (if possible) and get rid of this sham. Less than a month, already not impressed. I was even told during chat I'd be transferred (again) to a senior agent and then was disconnected. Turns out 10 pm when I got disconnected was when their support ends for the day. I DO NOT recommend getting this service, this product, this money grab.

The first 2 versions of magicJack were complete garbage. So we found the 3rd, looking online and at Google reviews everyone thought it was great. So for the $40 at Walmart we bought one. Hooked it up everything was believed to be going good, when all of the sudden magicJack's past came back. Within 1 week, we had to consistently turn the device off and on again. Faxing at first we could fax at 14.4b without a problem. The second we started encountering the process of turning the MJ off and on on a daily basis, we started having the fax problem as well. Same Telephone number dialed as before it will consistently hang up after 2 pages of faxing. So long side that we had the Basic Talk special at $4.99 a month for life. Same number same everything, the Basic Talk worked without a problem. Tried different computer same thing. So we're at the point of saying "Here we go again. Nothing's changed."

Even the dial tone of the magicJack is considerably lower than the Basic Talk adapter. Basic Talk you hear a loud crisp dial one. MagicJack's dial tone was like someone getting up in the morning basically not wanting to get up at all. And it proves just that. So today we went back to Walmart and returned the 2 magicJack devices for a $90 refund. One of them were never opened because of what we had experienced. Going back to Basic Talk and Ooma and never going back to magicJack.

I have reached out to live chat just to be transferred from person to person until closing time day after day as well as basically having the live reps on the phone number I acquired from consumer affairs call me a liar. I have made some calls and before my attorney is willing to begin a class action lawsuit, I must first present my problem to the merchant (magicJack) in order to give the opportunity for a resolution as that is going to be something that the judge will ask if I have already done.

I see now that it is possible to give my money back as I received a refund on all my duplicate transactions with the exception of one, and would like to suggest that you refund the duplicate charge for my 5 year subscription I purchased last year to card ending in **... If not feel free to apply the second 5 year subscription that I was indeed billed for to my daughter's magicJack (set to expire this month). I was put through the same nonsense yesterday when I tried to renew my daughter's subscription. I was charged and told I was not charged and asked for another card. I fell for that last time and paid twice for one subscription and was told one of the two transactions were holds.

Last time both transactions cleared my accounts and I never got a dime back. I have now been selected for the same scam. I called in and had a 3rd party listening this time and immediately upon hanging up the phone my money that we were assured was never even taken was returned to me? Now the fcc and Consumer Affairs both have evidence of such practices, I am formally requesting that my original duplicate charge now be refunded or applied to my daughter's subscription. I will continue to keep records of all communications regarding this matter. I would like to also express my regret in defending and doing business with a cut throat company such as this one.

DON'T EVER GO WITH MAGIC JACK! Here's the reason why... ya, they may be cheap at $20/year but it ain't worth it. They don't have customer service by phone. It's all by internet. What happened to talking to a live person? It's so difficult to try to explain my situation over the internet and then they come with automatic statements. Makes you wonder if you are actually talking to a real person.

When trying to make a call and you have the automated service and have to push the buttons just to get to the dept you need, well, magic jack has made it that much worse cause the buttons don't work! You can push #3 or #6 all you want but it won't work. Even if you decide to use the app on your phone so you can call who you need to, still has that issue. When confronting whoever, if there was one, was on the other side of the internet conversation, they disconnected and never resolved my issue. They never looked up my acct to see what I had actually purchased. We are constantly having to turn off and reset the magic jack connection due to their mess up!

I HATE MAGIC JACK! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM! I unfortunately bought 5 years worth of phone service with them. and I left the best service ever too. I'm totally regretting it but I had to do what I had to do. Times were tough and I couldn't afford Vonage. I love Vonage! I would recommend them to everyone! Awesome service, phone app worked great, never an issue with their phone box. Overall awesome! I am going to request my money back for the years I have not used. I'm tired of failed and crappy service from people who don't want to be people and not willing to help others! Vonage is my best friend for home phone service!

I purchased the magicJack so I could cut the cord. I specifically chose it because magicJack says that you can move your existing phone to their device and I wanted to drop the expensive landline but keep the convenience of the voicemail and phone number because doctors offices, etc. have that as the best contact for me. The problem is that magicJack needs you to keep your existing number until the transfer is complete - they say that can take up to two weeks. Since I have fiber optic phone service, I kept getting an email from magicJack stating the number was already being ported and to contact the original provider and cancel any other port requests.

After four of these messages, I contacted the original service and got their tech support who explained in relatively comprehensible terms that the port service to magicJack only works on copper cable lines; fiber optic service can only allow one service at a time to occupy the devoted phone line. Magicjack requires you to keep you current service until the transfer is complete, but since they can't occupy the number at the same time as the other service, it's virtually impossible to do both.

It's also impossible to secure any kind of support from magicJack, which is why I gave it one star. Their website has a lot of chat answers, and they expect you to find the answers to your questions on your own. If you are unable to do so, you can click on live chat, but I never was able to get through to anyone for assistance despite repeated attempts. Other customers had similar complaints to mine and by the time they were able to port over the phone number, it was no longer available.

I'm going to be out the $10 to switch over my phone, but I'm taking the device back to Radioshack for a refund - and I'd better receive one. If a business is only as good as its service, this business sucks. I have no idea how the call quality is, nor do I know how any of the other options such as voice mail or call forwarding work because I wasn't able to get that far. I'm not so angry as I am disgusted. Save your money (I ended up paying almost $80 because the only device in stock at the store was the most expensive one that can forward your home calls to a cell) and find a better alternative - they're out there.

People this is a budget phone. We are lucky we have any support. I have had to use the chat online several times, understand they are dealing with several people at the same time. That is how they keep it sooo cheap. I even had a unit fried by lightning and they sent me a new one for free. I had to use chat to get it activated with my current account and to retain my 3 years remaining on that account but they made it happen. I have been with them now almost 8 years and for the long term savings I think a little hassle is worth it.

I first got it because Dish was going to charge me $5 a month for not having a phone line for the DVR. I figured it was cheaper to have a MagicJack then to give the money to Dish, and bonus, I had a home phone to boot. Now don't need it for Dish (Ethernet hookup) but I'm spoiled to the cheap phone and continue to be happy with the service. The only time I was skeptical about the service was when I was on AT&T DSL which sometimes caused static on the line and breakup (slow internet is why). Now that I have real internet you can't even tell it is not a normal land line.

Well, my computer wouldn't let me go to that website. When I tried to get around that, I got to a "no such" message. Tried on another computer. Same thing. Went to the MagicJack website to find a number. The number said, "use live chat". Found live chat and had to type in a question and wait. And wait. Finally got a person. Explained that the website was unattainable. The return replies were vaguely on that topic. Was told to register online. Explained I could not. Was asked if the thing was plugged in. Said it was not as there were no instructions except to go to the website. Was given some somewhat helpful instructions and then a link to a video.

The video was for a different device but it was similar enough. Nothing happened. Plugged the device directly into my computer. Nothing happened. Messed around a bit and finally got it to do something but it brought up a phone screen. I had to route around until I found the right link to register my device. Tried to go back to live chat. My computer won't bring that page up anymore either. Blank screen. Very, very weird. Tried to call. Was on hold for 6 minutes and then their office hours ended and then so did the call. Nice. I seem to be able to call out now. The number has not been ported so I can't get calls in yet. It says that could take a while. That could be a problem as I drop my other provider in 2 days. Read reviews. Regretting my choice. I don't use the home phone much. Maybe it won't be too much of a headache. Fortunately, I have not signed up for anything beyond my 6 free months yet.

MagicJack has the worst technical support I've ever seen. Nothing gets fixed, even the simplest things. It's a joke, I'm wondering how they stayed in business. Even though they offer cheap product, but after you count the tens of hours you need to spend on fixing their tech problems I think it's the most expensive out there. First, they only offer chatting which requires you to be a fast typist (No support phone calls) and they always use Pre-written statements, and because None of them is tech qualified to fix it (and after spending a lot of time with them) they always always transfer the chat to a supposedly "senior technician" who also wastes your time and when they can't fix it they post their 2nd most famous statement, "Since we haven't heard from you, we must release this chat," pretending that you aren't there anymore even though you never left the chat.

I have copied and saved all their chat IDs and challenge any of their tech staff to contact me and fix that simple tech problem after trying for 2.5 months. By the way, the problem is: No matter how many times I record my outgoing personal greeting on my voice-mail, next day it always turns instead into a magicJack commercial advertising their product in a male's voice (NO personal greeting anymore) and doesn't even offer/allow the caller to leave a Voice message. Took my brand new iMac back to Apple and they verified the computer worked perfectly.

Never one to easily give up, took the MJ device back for a refund. I bought another one. Same, hang up again on Step 10. Didn't bother contacting them for help again, having already proven they were incompetent. I took the second MJ back for a refund. Then I bought a third one and went to my friend's place on host Windows computer. The exact same problem again.

In conclusion...if you can complete registration and the device works, consider yourself lucky. I have no idea what percentage of their customers are unable to register but it must be high. The good news is it may be a blessing in disguise if you can't register because when something else goes wrong down the line, and according to thousands of complaints online, you will likely get no satisfaction addressing other problems as well. You will likely get no help from their chat/help service. This company can be very bad news - I would advise to forget them completely.

I had entered into an agreement with magicJack for 5 yrs at 19.95 per year plus $10 a year because I live in Canada. The service was fine until a few weeks ago. My service said it needed to be renewed. I thought it was the $10 Canadian phone fee that needed to be paid. So I paid it. The phone worked for a couple days after then it said it needed to be renewed again. I got on to their technical call line (of course you can't talk to anyone). They looked at my account and told me that I made 22 times more calls than the average magicJack user to a 516 area code and had terminated my service due to breach of the terms of the contract! First of all I do not know anyone in the 516 area code (which turned out to be Long Island) as I live in Canada.

I asked for the number, they would not provide it. They said I could request my call logs. So I did. The date that was in Question according to them was July 8th. I requested call logs for the past year up to and including July 8th. They provided these up to July the 2nd. After 3 requests and still no July 8th records they began to tell me that they already provided the records and would not send any more.

Well here I am now, no house phone, out a $120 or so for the balance of the service that I had prepaid and no resolution to my problem. They obviously wanted to cancel my service and used their contract as a scapegoat to cancel it. I'm guessing they weren't making any money off of my account so they flushed it. I have no recourse. They wouldn't look at my call history, which was minimal, to see if the calling patterns were out of place. Just cut me off!! What a bunch of scammers!! STAY AWAY FROM MAGICJACK!!

I have been using MagicJack for the last couple of years. It worked 'OK' for the first one year - until (I guess) change of ownership/management. The service is going bad to worse. Most of the time, there is lots of noise, breaks during conversation which makes me repeat the same words/sentences again & again, very poor connectivity despite my WiFi is at 40 mbps speeds. In fact, one should ask what is that is working with MagicJack. I feel I made a mistake by signing for 5 years. As of today, I am never able to pick up my incoming calls using iPhone. When I use a desk-phone, it takes several seconds to actually connect me to the incoming calls - after saying 'Hello' probably 10 to 15 times.

Avoid them like the plague!!! I switched to magicJack. The first issue I had was the hidden fees to keep your number each year but I thought, ok, it will be worth it. Then our cordless digital phone wouldn't hold the time. I find out that this is a glitch with magicJack and was meant to be rectified two years ago. It never will be. At this point, I decide enough is enough. I want my refund. I was over my 30 day free trial by 2 days. I tell MJ that I still want to cancel. We then start four days of going back and forth having Vonage request my account info, account number, address etc. magicJack refuse the transfer request each and every time. I am then told I need to receive an email from magicJack with a link that I can fill out the final form to pay the $30 port out fee and have my number transferred. 4 days later and no email.

I contact the FCC to formerly complain. magicJack say that Vonage have never requested to port my number. We start all over again. Round and round. Absolute nightmare. Do not deal with this company if you wish to stay sane. You wait on hold for 20 mins at a time to have someone tell you they can't help you. I was hung up on three times. The chat facility was disconnected numerous times because I was asking why the email hasn't been sent through to me. Awful, just awful.

I have spent about a full day chatting with customer service (snail mail) with no results. I give up, I'm just going to leave it on "call forwarding." magicJack has no respect for their customers. No phone number to call for help. The help you get to chat with is nothing to write home about. Today I chatted with 7 techs, and it still won't work. The techs just hang up when they don't know what to do then you start all over again with another tech. This MJ is used on my business line. I have been without a phone now for three days. Pretty sad. Lost time, money, and customers again.

I've been a magicJack user for over 5 years. The device works OK not great. Has problems when using a wi-fi connected computer and a set of cordless phones seems there is a bit of interference in the radio signals which cause people to have a hard time understanding me. But the magic App is a big problem. I used it since it became available and while not very reliable for receiving calls it is fairly good for making them on the go. I recently changed cell phones and discovered that I couldn't register my new phone with the magic App. While I can log on and make calls I cannot receive them since my old phone has the phone number tied up. Last year a similar problem occurred when I bought a magicJack for my wife and registered the phone's app on my account. We had to call customer service and they disabled the app on my account and allowed the one in my wife's account to work.

Since I know the reason why my new phone won't receive calls I asked them to deactivate my old cell phone so I could activated the new one. Apparently they can't do that anymore. Good thing I found this out before I renewed with another 5 years. I've tried chatting for hours each day for a week but the say they will have it done by upper management. But it never happens. Some said they would escalate the matter but didn't do it at all. The service is not good that is why my wife never used it. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person who wants to update his cell phone. This should be built into the system to replace a phone.

I was told that they no long supported the silver box and that I needed the NEW MagicJack Express at a price of $43.07. I received the new one and could not make it work on the computer.

YOU can't call these people for service because they don't speak clear English, so all technical problems are through chat. I chatted with 3 different agents over a period of 4 hours. They did not know what to do. Finally I told the agent that I wanted a refund and my old silver box to work again. She provided me with return info and ended the chat. Today I've called the billing dept for a refund and asked them to transfer my 5 years service that I just paid for in March back to the old silver box. I was told that they could not do that. So, MagicJack just cheated me out of $100.00.

I travel a lot and needed a way to lower my phone bill cost. I then got magicJack over a year ago as an extra line. The installation was straightforward and it worked on the first attempt. Overall, I paid around $30 for the device plus $10 for the number and I purchased 5 years plan for $100. I will need to pay an additional $10/yr for the number. So, all together it will cost me around $180 for 5 years of unlimited local and IDD calls. Add the fact that I can use my cell phone with the Magicjack app without using my plan (as long as I am connected to a WiFi). To sum it up, less than $20/yr or $1.75 a month to save over 150 to $200 a year (at least). Even if it have some glitches sometimes, it is very well worthed. I highly recommend it.

It was, of course, all my fault because I couldn't follow their instructions on disconnecting, reconnecting, switching, then reswitching, etc. I spent hours trying to follow their instructions, but I simply don't know how to do it and I was not a very good student, apparently. I recently purchased the magicJack in February 2015, the second week of June the device stopped working. We contacted the chat service and they did everything they could to assist. We ended up having to run it through the computer. 2 days later the device stopped working again. We worked through the chat again and still could only run it through the computer. However, the phone did not ring with calls, you had to be looking directly at the screen to know anyone was calling. The computer had to remain on at all times. If restarted, it had to be reconfigured to work again, and you could not use the handset phone. Therefore, it was useless.

I did as I was directed in multiple different chats to change the power adapter, then change the ethernet cord, then buy a different phone, all with no change. Then I was told after updating the device a second time through the chat and spending all that money that the device was defective. Why this could not be determined before I spent so much time and money replacing parts, I am not sure. So in order to replace the device it would cost another 15$ with the warranty.

They stated it was in the subscriber's agreement (which I have yet to find ), and that the device failed due to something on our end of things such as power fluctuation or outages. Seems silly since it was surge protected. However, being as I only had the product for less than 4 months they could have waived that fee the first time and replaced the device. However, just FYI, I did find you can call 911 from your magicJack phone... Granted they were very patient with me as I am not a computer savvy person. I had to chat with them 5 different times and it seems the problem could have and should have been determined much earlier. I will NOT be renewing my subscription after this year.

I barely used this magicJack since I had it, I start using it after I discontinued my AT&T telephone service to save some bucks. I only had this device about a month ago, ordered it April 2015 and today is May 27, 2015. At first use I had no problem with the device, I can talk and fax without issues. Now barely a month later people on the other end kept telling me they cannot understand and I am breaking out, static noise in the background, and echo. I had been in chat board with magicJack yesterday and today. It seems I spent over six hours with them trying to solve the problem, from disconnecting the device several times, or connecting it to my laptop for update several times, tech even blamed the surge protection is causing the problem (which is BS), and even asked to access my computer (again several times) so he can reconfigure the device -- no success.

Chat board abruptly terminated the conversation 4 times today. How rude, I even asked chat board if there is time limit to deal with me, the answer is no (I do not believe it after several terminations). I asked them to send replacement, I was told I had to pay $13.?? as fee. I replied the device is under the warranty, paying another $13.?? is a purchase.

I sincerely believe that the tech help are not knowledgeable on fixing the problem. This is the type of telephone equipment and service someone can find in the third world countries. Theirs might even be better. By the way the equipment is made in China, that probably is the reason for inconsistent quality and reliability. I am going back to AT&T and complain to the credit card company about this magicJack company to get my money back. Time to take legal action to stop this.

I am a bit of a home computer geek in tracking down fixes but I have almost given up on magic Jack (MJ). I have tried using the device in the router and directly in a few different computers and it has been completely unreliable for me. I have called MJ tech once in the beginning, very nice people but of no help - not their fault in my opinion. The device may have various design or production problems but don't base it on my unit, see if you can find any other complaints. Yes, I bought it over a year ago and got the 5 year plan. If I can get it to work at all, it my take me a half hour of tries (no joke or exaggeration); and I probably still not get the device to work of late.

At times, it will stop my computer from working properly and I gave up with the direct plug into the router with one simple phone (cordless or wired phone - both were tried with low ringer numbers) and even when it wouldn't work, if I Ieft it plugged in, my router would start to malfunction. I could correct this problem by removing the magic Jack (MJ) and rebooting the router. The same will happen with the various laptops that I have tried at home, even when I will try for 30 minutes to get the magic Jack (MJ) to boot up and work and it doesn't most of the time. MJ will often impact my computer function so I have to reboot the computer or go into the task manager to shut down the MJ programs. What a poor design for the start up splash screen, it takes over my computer and it stops me from getting anything else done in the multiple attempts and failures to boot up properly.

They should have designed it to run in the background of the desktop and not take over the screen with no minimize function. Yes, there must be a mental issue here because I still try to get it to work - my undergrad is in electrical engineering and I find it difficult to give up on electronic devices. Out of 10 long attempts to get MJ to work, maybe one out of 10 works (maybe) is accurate before I turn to another device. Please don't think I am unhappy with the MJ, just because it drops calls of people calling in, disconnects them before the VM works, or because I seldom get it to work. It looks nice when the lights are on and the black color goes with everything.

Even today, I still have it plugged into a cordless phone at my kitchen table and the wire running up to (but not plugged in) the laptop computer. I keep it on the table even though I can't remember it working after so many tries in the last two weeks. Maybe because I have about $160 in it with the purchase and 5-year service contract?

I bought the "original" MJ plug-in about 3-5 years ago. The problem with mine was that 99% of incoming calls went to voicemail! Several attempts to resolve through the chat line failed to correct the problem, and neither did replacing units. I ended up returning both to Walgreens for refund. In May of 2015 I heard of "MagicJack GO," which can connect directly to the broadband router, eliminating need of a computer. Well, I experienced the very same problem: 99% of incoming calls straight to voicemail! Went to the chat line (very good response time in connecting to a live person, I will admit), they tried a few things, none worked, and I had my new number deactivated and returned the unit to Amazon for a refund.

Buyers should beware of several things: hidden fees, such as for porting your existing number ($10 EVERY YEAR), around $30 to "buy back" your ported number if you decide to cancel MJ service (otherwise they "own" your old number! ), fees of $6-$60 per year for E911 access, $19 fee for using their warranty service. My advice is, if you decide to try it, DO NOT port your existing home phone number! You won't get it back if you cancel unless you pay a fee.

In my opinion, this company operates a scam where they make their money selling the units and don't give a damn if it doesn't work. They play the odds of people just giving up and throwing them away, and apparently resell returned units without changing the caller ID name (see other review)! I am sticking with BasicTalk. I get superb service and quality for $9.99/month. With MJ, the old saying goes: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Don't expect customer service when you are paying $3/month for their "service."

People I dealt with were not very computer-friendly, wanting mainly to send me to obscure websites with long series of instructions and expecting me to complete the task in seconds. Because I could not navigate through their long instructions quickly, they were not there to respond to results I obtained when I returned to magicJack. Only service I have now with magicJack now is that they send me emails about calls I missed and then I can listen to recorded messages from friends. Norton Security analyzed my problem and said it is in magicJack software.

Since yesterday April 21, 2015 magicJack blocked me from purchasing international LD minutes. I have valid credit cards. I spent a long time yesterday with their chat service about this issue. The agent told me that he (she?) will report the problem, that I re-try 24 hours later, which I did with no results. I also filled a web form with my complaint. magicJack solved voice quality problems from the past and it was fine until yesterday.

I logged into my magicJack account and set up the caller ID to say NationalMillDog, an organization for which I volunteer. I called my home phone from my magicJack and to my great surprise, the caller ID said "Black Guy R"! I immediately began an online chat with magicJack and expressed my dissatisfaction. It was obvious, the magicJack representative's first language was not English. I explained this was unacceptable because many in English-speaking countries would consider this a racial slur!

I have received nothing but the runaround and a week later and several lengthy online chats later, this problem still has not been resolved. I have been told repeatedly that they can't find anything that says "Black Guy R" in my accounts. I have tried to explain that I never programmed "Black Guy R" but that is what appears on the caller ID of the phone receiving my call from my magicJack. I have called 2 different telephone numbers on numerous occasions just to make sure this is the caller ID name being shown. HELP!

I am the systems & technology director at an assisted living community. We have a tremendous internet system in our community. We have over 180 apartments in our community. At this time, there are about 12 residents using MagicJack. Most of them are installed and working without incident. I have assisted with everyone of those device installations.

However, two of their users have defective devices and there is no amount of "chat" that can be done to correct the issue. There is no phone support at all. Only chat. The defect causes the MagicJack user to not be able to hear the person on the other end, even though that person can hear you. It's happening on two of twelve devices. It has nothing to do with internet speeds.

We have a MagicJack that belonged to a resident that passed away. The family hates the device and gave it to us in the event that another resident would like to use it. Guess what? That can't happen! You can't transfer a MagicJack to a new owner. Once it is registered to you, this is what MagicJack will tell you when you want to close your account: "**: Just to clarify, do you want to totally deactivate the MagicJack device because once we deactivate the device it cannot be reactivated anymore. And again you cannot re-register the device to another MagicJack account since it is already registered." It can't be reused or detached from the phone number you used to register the device. We won't recommend this device to any other residents in our community. Getting one that works consistently is a matter of luck (no similar complains exist with the numerous residents we have that use Ooma).

At one time I had three MagicJack accounts with separate phone numbers. As time progressed over a five year period the customer service keep getting worse so I started dropping accounts. I just dropped the last one this week. The only way you can communicate with the company is via Chat. It is fairly obvious that English is not the primary language of any of the representatives that I have Chatted with. They could not get billing for these accounts moved to one date so that I did not have to string out my payments. They put a very annoying voice message reminder on your phone line starting about 2 months out from any bill due. You can't make a call until it stops, you can't get rid of it, and they won't take it off until you pay.

The corporate is not even a USA one. Their headquarters is in Israel. MagicJack, also known as VocalTec Ltd, has been sued four times. One was for patent infringement and another for defamation of character and fraudulent statements. Three fourths of the BBB complaints against the company are based on Problems with Product/Service. I had a recent dispute, one of several others, about $3 on my bill and they would not give me a credit for it. They lost a long term customer over a few bucks. For those who rate Mj as five stars, I'm glad it's working out. For those who are considering gambling with your money then look at and read the many, many one star ratings. They all can't be wrong.

I have two MJ plus. Not even one year in and one of them stopped working. I went through tech services (another joke) that took a great amount of time to tell me the adaptor plug stopped working. They said it would be $5 and some odd change to send another. I noted that my purchase included lifetime free replacements. I was told this charge was for postage. It took over a month to receive the replacement plug and it didn't work so I contacted them for another replacement, that took another month. So two months without one of my lines. I finally got a working replacement plug and the MJ was still not working. So I contacted tech service three more times without a successful outcome.

I was finally informed today they would send me a replacement, but of course they will charge me shipping again. Seriously. What a joke. So in total it will be over 6 months without service (but of course I am still charged full price) and an additional cost to me of $10. They limit your number of calls (they will cut off your service if you go over their limit) so it is basically only good for a fax or a phone line rarely used. Honestly, the headache is so not worth this product. Save yourself wasted time and frustration and go with another product as MJ is worthless.

Specific to my description of "bad": VERY static calls that frequently broke up. If there was ANYONE else on the internet (either hard wired or wireless) making a call was close to impossible. We even had the adapter connected to the router, AND adjusted the QoS for their "best" performance and it was still full of static, people couldn't hear us, and the calls would drop. I honestly got worried that if we had to call 911 that we would be unable to do it, or that the operator on the other side would be unable to understand us. The last straw was when we wanted to change and they charged $30 to port the number back.

And trying to use Customer Service or Tech Support, forget it, just go hit yourself in the head with a hammer, it's less painful. I don't know, maybe since the original owner passed away it has gone into the hands of someone who does not give a crap about happy customers for MJ.

I will continue to use my old MJ and only pay 3 mo at a time. Do not do a 5 year, you will never get the whole 5 years and never get out of them debiting your account. I use a debit card so if it is empty, they get nothing. Keep MJ on a short, short leash. Don't port your number that can turn into a nightmare, just take what number they give you, again less pain. 2 years ago they would have gotten 5 stars, now, I do not trust them.

I purchased two of their devices. The first one was the simple version. It worked for the little I used it over a rather brief period of time. I then purchased their more expense Magic Jack Plus device thinking I could use the previous device at another location on another computer. No way. When you purchase the Plus device you lose everything you spent on the original device and service. (They don't tell you that.) For the Plus device I paid for a 5 year subscription. I only used it at a remote location maybe 3 times a year. When I tried to use it, it wouldn't work. I reached the company on their chat line.

They had me look for the ID codes that their Plus device generated. I gave them the code and the chat operator said that the device was one of those that had a factory defect. I could have it replaced if I sent them $5.39. Now $5.39 cents isn't going to make or break anyone but there is a principle involved. One doesn't have to pay a manufacturer of a defective device to have it replaced --- even if its just for postage and "handling". They created a defective device by their own admission. They should send me a replacement so I could use it during my 5 year subscription. They refused. They cite their EULA and told me I had agreed to pay their shipping and "handling." I would rather throw away the nearly $200 I paid them than do business with such a company.

Neither will they give me a rebate or refund on the 3 year remaining subscription I have with them. As I said, there is a principle involved and when we consumers allow companies to walk all over us, then they will and they will even more so. I told them I would review them on the internet thusly. They don't care. The chizzlers would rather have $5.39 than to keep this customer and create new customers from those who reads this. What does that tell you about the corporate culture of Magic Jack? BTW: I notice that almost ALL of the reviews I see are one star awful for Magic Jack. Don't do business with these people.

If your pings are over 150 ms then forget it get a different ISP or get a landline. Period. You will have great quality audio and response time with only 1 Mbps both up and down so as long as your ping are under 75 ms preferable under 50 ms to the server. I have had Magicjack for several years, and it does work. Nice to make long distance calls free, and yak for hours. The sound quality is very good. You sometimes get cut off after a long gabfest, but, just redial! One thing I didn't like was that after renewing the service online with a credit card, it defaults to automatic renewal. When that happened the following year, I went into my account, and disabled the auto renewal. So, I get nag emails telling me to renew, well in advance, but hey, getting a reminder so you don't forget isn't a bad thing.

Recently, I moved the Magicjack from a computer running Windows XP to a newer one running Windows 7. It would not install, giving a message that it could not connect to the internet, yet the computer connected to the Net just fine. Contacted Support (chat mode) and was very disappointed. Directed to a Driver support service (fee based, of course) which I did not sign up for, but left me with malware installed on the computer, which took some time to remove. Wound up Googling for Windows 7 drivers for Magicjack, and found a site which offered a free download, and now Magicjack is working fine on the Windows 7 computer. Obviously support must be well aware of the problem, but direct you to a money grab and malware site, instead of providing a driver download. Not exactly the way to endear yourself to your customers.

The original Magicjack does not work on Windows 8. I presume we are expected to buy the Magicjack Plus, but after reading the reviews on that, I won't be joining the line, unless things improve. Too bad a decent product gets spoiled by bad company decisions. I'll continue using my original Magicjack until Windows 7 is no longer supported, and then look at my options. I must say that a lot of the complaints here seem to be based on a lack of common sense by the users.

The app on my phone went corrupt. It just wouldn't sync. I chatted with them and they said to delete the app and reinstall. They said they noted I was contacting them from Mexico. I said that is correct, I am visiting here. They said no problem. Just delete and reinstall. I specifically asked, will my phone numbers be preserved? I could see all my contacts. I just couldn't call them. She kept telling me it was fine, they were good.

I deleted the app and went to install it again and can't. She forgot to mention the only way to install the app in Mexico is Magic Jack America. It would have automatically changed my phone number to a Mexican number. I reminded her, I am in Mexico visiting, I need the US version. She said I can't do that from Mexico, I have to install it in the US. I reminded her AGAIN, I am visiting Mexico, why would I want a Mexican number? What will I do when I go back to the US in a couple of days? She didn't know.

So I found a way to get the app and reinstall, it's a back door kinda way. Guess what? All my phone numbers are gone. I contacted them again asking where are my phone numbers? She looked back on the previous chats and told me it's my fault, I should know the phone better. When their customers are challenged with telephones all the training in the world can't make employees help those customers. I explained I know how to ask if my phone numbers will be preserved.

What does my phone have to do with their incorrect information on preserving my phone numbers? I honestly and sincerely hate these people. Never again, Magic Jack. After five years of being a customer this is the final straw. I am done. It's time to find a service where their employees actually have training and know what customer service is. Von, Jill, and Faye were the people. Faye is absolutely the worst.

I believe that word of mouth is the best advertising any business can have. I promise Magic Jack that for the next 8 weeks every single person that I run into I will tell what a horror your employees are and your garbage service isn't worth it. This company should be taken off of the market. Since August 2014 my father purchased magic and we tried to set it up and for 5 months it hasn't worked. We paid for 2 months and now they are trying to charge us extra in order to make it work. First of all they don't have technical support over the phone for people who are not technically inclined like my father. It is inconvenient and they have no remorse or want to do anything to resolve the issue. It is frustrating going back and forth with them via chat. For 5 month we haven't had a phone and they just took our money without trying to fix it. No one should consider them. They are rogues. If someone tells you to get them or you are thinking about considering them, run away from the idea as fast as you can. I have never been so upset with a service to write a review on them. This is really upsetting.

Bought MJ to replace my land line. First one did not work properly. Took it back to Walmart. Got another one. That's when it all went down hill. Installed the MJ then upgraded software as required. Nothing seemed to work. Used "LIVE CHAT" to get them to reset from their end. Worked great. Voice quality was not so good but for the price...

I had them port my home phone number to MJ. It cost $10. They said it would take 5-10 business days to be available. The number they gave us would let me call out but would not allow calls to come in. Would say, "the customer is unavailable, please leave a message." Then it would send the message as a Wav file to my email. My number finally ported, after 14 days and would not let calls in! I had them (at LIVE CHAT) reset it 7 times in one day. I would get one call in and then it would quit. I missed 14 calls in one afternoon. I went through this procedure of going online, getting LIVE CHAT and upgrading each time going through 3-4 operators, finally getting senior officer and getting a reset to only have 1 call come in and starting all over.

After a few days I gave up. I called Century Link to get my land line service back and have my number ported back. Well, well, well... It seems that after a week I am contacted by MJ to ask if I wished to have my original land line number ported back to Century Link. I said “Yes”. I received an email stating that in order to port my number back I was now required to pay $30 plus admin fee of $3.24 in order to get my number back. Apparently they can legally hold your number hostage. When I asked LIVE CHAT if this was the case, my call was "mysteriously" dropped. So I learned a valuable lesson. I just wish the "LIVE CHAT" was live so I could give them what for!!

THEN they wouldn't help me, they kept transferring me to different departments. FINALLY someone said "if your area code doesn't come up, then you can't use that state." I didn't want an out-of-state phone number, so I returned the product.

Walmart wouldn't take back the prepaid $20 card that I bought and told me to call them to receive my refund. Called again. They wouldn't refund me, said they go by Walmart's policy? Went back to Walmart and they refunded me because they wanted to satisfy their customer. THANK YOU WALMART and SCREW YOU MAGICJACK! To sum it up Magic Jack has been returned for credit. Don't bother buying one just so you don't have to waste your gas to return it. The installation process is horrible. After about 5 hrs. of trying to activate I gave up 'til the next day. When I finally was able to figure out how to input the code they provide via email I had to create a new account each time I got a new code. I got to the payment section where it ask for your account # and security code for payment purposes. It doesn't have an option to select which credit card you want to pay with (i.e. mastercard, discovery, etc.). After continued attempts I continued to receive a message that my credit card number was incorrect.

I then contacted Magic Jack live chat. It was apparent to me through their written responses they weren't American so it could have been a language barrier as they weren't able to help me. I was transferred to a Senior Analyst who instructed me to contact my bank to obtain correct card account info. WHHAAT?? I attempted to use two different cards with the same result, which I communicated to them. When I refused to contact my bank the chat was abruptly terminated. When support can't even help you so you can pay them, what's going to happen when you have technical issue? DON'T BOTHER BUYING!!!

I've had MJ since 2008, lived with all the growing pains and got MJ + in 2012 and bought the 6 year plan. While it seems to work well most of the time, customer support is limited to online chat with no chance to escalate an issue. Today I found that the USB adapter that they provided stopped working so the device itself was inactive. Online chat had me switch it to another cell phone usb to house current adapter that I had and it now works. MJ wants to charge me $5+ for shipping and handling to replace the faulty adapter. This USB adapter has simply been plugged in to the same outlet since I got it.

I've been a customer since 2008, over 6 years. A component failed through no fault of my own. The usb adapter weighs less than an ounce and ships USPS in a letter-sized padded envelope so the shipping part of shipping and handling is much less than $5. The only option to escalate an issue is to fill out a "Suggested Enhancement" form, I've tried this in the past and never heard from anyone.

Bottom line, it's cheap and it can work in the some circumstances, but if you have issues you get only the first line of support, reps on chat reading the script. No phone support of any kind. I can only assume that their USB adapters fail often and they cannot afford to stand behind their product. I've got other USB wall adapters that are much older and have seen a lot more use. They all work just fine. The true measure of any business is how they handle problems. MJ wants your money. Once they get it you're on your own.

Did this three times... (and btw got emails after each time). The person on the chat finally instructed me to go set up a new email account somewhere and to try that. At this point, realizing that I was assisting with debugging their software, I declined and will be returning this to Radio Shack. The chat agent "Daphne" hung up on me when I refused to go set up a new email address. I spent a total of 5 hours over two days trying to get this registered with no success. It took some time and work but Magicjack has given me all my time credited accordingly! I just wish companies would go back to LIVE in USA customer support via Phone customer service. Cat and outsourced reps and a complex wall between the customers and companies. Thank you Magicjack!

Original Review: Jan. 3, 2015

ON LIVE CHAT TO GET RIGHT ADDRESS AND PHONE...CONCURRENTLY. I have tried LIVE CHAT at MJ and the phone...ONLY to be outsourced. I have not gotten any resolution! Many hours and money! I have been a LOYAL customer with MAGICJACK since JUNE 09. During this time 3 devices and re-upping. I WAS a happy customer referring EVERYONE I talked with to MJ. This past June 2014 I paid my renewal for 12 months until JUNE 2015 for my service at ** . GREAT was FINE!! JUNE 2015. Then SHORTLY thereafter, the MJ PLUS failed. I went on "LIVECHAT" for that trouble shooting. The agent confirmed the device was malfunctioning. So I needed another for phone service. The Rep assured me I would get credit for the extra MJ time purchased with the MJ 2014 PLUS. It would take too long for MJ to mail me a replacement. The phone is work and money. I am a single mother. So rather than wait I went to a local retailer and spent $40.00 Plus taxes for the 2014 MJ PLUS.

I KEPT THE CHAT LOG OF TROUBLE SHOOTING...but, forgot to keep the set-up chat. When I got home with the replacement, I got on your "LIVE CHAT" to get PROPER assistance in SET UP. Felt fine after the rep helped with the set up. Asking repeatedly that I would have the extra 6 mos on top of the 12 mos for ** I HAD JUST PAID!!!! I AM IN FLORIDA...too!!!

It is MY UNDERSTANDING, that through the REGISTRATION process with YOUR "LIVE CHAT" rep that I and YOUR REP did not assist me registering the device properly! SO, NOW I have LOST $$$ on the YEAR I PAID UNTIL JUNE 2015...AND THE 6 MONTHS that came with the MJ 2014 PLUS!!! I am UPSET> I have spent MUCH time ON MJ chats and phone AND this email. ALL because a RADIO button was NOT clicked PROPERLY when YOUR "LIVE CHAT" Rep and I were registering my Replacement device for the BROKE device???? I went on chat so it WOULD be registered PROPERLY!!!!

After Registration, THROUGH your REP, it was my understanding I would have MJ service on ** UNTIL January 2016...not January 2015. That was a YEAR that I paid and the 6 mos with the device. It seem as though I have now LOST the year I paid AND had to spend FULL price for a replacement. ALL I want is MY service UNTIL January 2016. I KNOW this email is a waste just as the money I threw away on the year and the device. BUT, IF MJ is a HONORABLE Company they will see the error and help the Customer. You should have records of ALL live chat logs. I am learning to keep copy of Live chats. I am attaching copies of the LIVE CHATS I have kept. IF MJ cannot see/find this error, they will lose a good long term customer. I wish not to be that lost customer. PLEASE help...see the error and credit until Jan 2016. PLEASE!

Every Magic Jack Rep had/has NO authority to assist in anything. The ONLY thing they have been trained in is PHONE EMPATHY response. "I know how you feel"..."I know you are frustrated...I would be too!" I am highly knowledgeable about phone empathy training. They are not skilled in customer service and retention. LOOK elsewhere...I will be for better customer service phone service.

To be honest I will say this, when Mjack is working, it's wonderful, but if you ever have a problem and need customer support, you are on your own. If you call they will tell you that there is no phone support for technical issues. They only initiate service/collect money over the phone. They have truly grown too big too quick, forgetting that customers got them where they are today.

I have been a customer of Mjack for probably 6 years. At the time of this posting, I have two active Jacks, none of which work. I have spent 5 hours trying to address having them replaced and the available agents seem to be reading a script that stifles their ability to even read your problem definition. I have been transferred between 7 different technicians none of whom have been able to rectify the problem to date.

The jack will not power up, and I tried explaining that to their agents and they fail to acknowledge the possibility that I, customer, could have pinpointed a defective device. I then explain that if they can get my international prepaid credit to work on my android tablet, that I would not need the physical device. 5 hours later, the issue still has not been resolved. I just don't know what to say. Just don't get it. It's the worst in terms of customer service. You have been warned, and I promise, you will remember this if you ever have a problem.

My experience was that when I tried to contact them, I could only reach a salesperson. That is all, a salesperson. And you only get to TEXT messages to magicJack. The first problem I had was that my phone wouldn't take additional numbers. The first person I talked acted like they were from Bangladesh or Somalia. Bad English. They acted like they had never heard of a 'phone taking additional numbers' (like menu items, card numbers, etc).

The second person knew right away. And told me to unplug the unit, totally, for a few minutes. When reconnected the unit was fine. The second problem was billing. Again, talked to a salesperson (Not an account specialist). The problem turned out to be a previous phone account from a few years earlier. At the time, I subscribed I could get a magicJack unit and a phone number, for a few. (They really need to spell this out rather than assuming everyone understands that they are talking about.)

Then I could get annual phone service for 30.00 a year. BUT if I got five years of service for a $109.00, they would throw in the magicJack unit and the fees for the $109.00. *COPY ANY AND ALL PAGES -screen shot- FROM THE WEB* Because the next time you log in they will have changed. The 'salesperson' I messaged had applied my payments incorrectly. There was no recourse sending text messages with sales staff. They are there to wear you down. RIPOFF.

After reviewing some of these comments here, I had to take a few minutes and write this. First, I do not have any connections with this company aside from using their products. Second, I am a cheapskate and look for products like magicJack to save money, plain and simple. Now with that said, I can tell you I currently have 3 magicJack devices. One original one that needs to be plugged into a computer only. I do not use that one very often any longer though. I also have 2 of them hooked up directly to my network router and I use one for my work number and one for my home number. For the price, I have to say they work pretty well.

I saw another comment about someone who received a prior number for someone who was in financial trouble. This has nothing to do with magicJack. I had used a phone from COX that they provided me the number and had the same exact experience. But for the COX number, I was paying 31/month. After they initially hooked it up, it started ringing with collection calls about 10 minutes after and never really stopped until I finally cancelled cable and the phone and purchased what is now my 3rd MJ. Below are some key things to look at to get your MJ working well.

1. If you tie MJ into your existing phone wiring, be sure you unplug the old ma/pa bell connections outside the house where they come in. I have personally had issues with the phone ringing until I unplugged the existing phone cables where they connect to the house.

2. If you can, within your router software find the section labeled QOS and give the highest priority to the MAC address of you magicJack. Most companies like Comcast, COX, etc. that provide cable modem/routers you rent and use their phone service also give priority to this.

Also, I had one of the power supplies go bad. While it was a bit of a hassle, they did provide me a new one free of charge after I sent my existing one back. This means for a few days, I had to hook it to my PC via USB for power. I can't really comment on the customer service as I have never had to deal with them except the one for the power supply issue and that experience was good.

The exact same issue as everyone else. Unit was an absolute piece of junk. The quality of the device is completely matched by their shady business practices. Their methods of conveniently not being contactable, or "suddenly" cancelling a chat, means that most people simply give up and allow MJ to continue to bill them. Very shady practices. I finally did manage to get out, 4 years ago, but their unscrupulous email offers continue. And guess what? There is no "unsubscribe" option available on the newsletter. Their moral compass is definitely spinning in the wrong direction. Every time I get an email from them all it does is remind me of how they screw people over.

Sometimes the sound quality is garbled but most of the time it is clear. Sometimes there is an echo in the background but not often. My doctor's office and others living in a particular community cannot call my number, they get an "all circuits busy" message every time. I have called from their office with my cell pone and it goes through fine. This only affects a few people but I worry that other important calls might be missed without my knowledge. One day the blue box dial pad would not open on my computer. I chatted with support. Everything we tried did not work. After an hour or so of trying different things, I had to leave. When I got back home I tried uninstalling "JAVA" and reinstalling. Voila! The dial pad opened. However the voice out and the caller id and call log did not work. I chatted with support again. They were able to get the voice out working. But still, caller id and call log on my phone did not worked. They have always worked since I first started using MJ 5 years ago. I chatted with several tech persons. Nothing worked. After several chats and hours online with support trying to get it to work, Support said it was my phone (the same phone that I always use, and was working until the dial pad wouldn't open. They did a “scrub” Reinstall and an update, then the caller id stopped working). Anyway they said it was my phone. So I went out and bought another phone. There was no change, caller id did not work! Finally after all this support said that they do not support caller id. They said they knew about this problem and had similar situations with other customers. "Sometimes caller id just stop working."

Now it's not the end of the world, but it is an annoyance when I pickup my phone that the caller is not id-ed. They did not bother to tell me about this problem with caller id, and that they don't support it (even though, free caller id is advertised) until I spent all this time and effort to fix it. And only after I bought another phone did they tell me that "sometimes caller id just stops working.” It was only a coincidence that this happened after they "scrubbed" and reinstalled and updated MJ. I spent so much time chatting with support being passed from one tech to another. The last time I chatted, I spoke with 5 different techs. And each time I had to go over everything again, and just repeat everything over and over again. It was a huge waste of time! Especially just to be told that they don't support caller id. Nothing they could do! Very disappointing, will not be renewing MJ again!!!

We purchased a Magic Jack device a few months ago. It worked fairly well for awhile (voices were skipping in it otherwise it would've been perfect). We paid over $60 for the device which included a year's worth of service. In the past week it suddenly stopped working "during the day". But works at night so far from what I'm experiencing approx. 11:30 pm to 8:30 or 9:00 am. I contacted support on chat. They gave me some ideas to reset the device and they reset it on their end as well they said. Still it wouldn't work. No dial tone. 2 messages keep coming on the phone alternating. 1 says "Error please check your internet connection" and the other says "Please Wait."

Upon them referring us to a supervisor to get some better ideas they started saying things like that they wanted us to lower our firewall which we didn't feel comfortable doing. We went and put our cell phone service back on so we would have some form of communication with the outside world. Every night Magic Jack service still works but not during the day when it had been working 24/7. I feel like we got taken advantage of.

Their Caller ID feature sucks! When I call people it shows the name of someone I have never heard of. No big deal except I use this line for business and it results in repeated calls back and forth with clients who don't recognize the name that shows up. When I contacted MJ about this (3 times) I was told it was an issue on my end not theirs but someone would check and get back to me. Well, it is interesting that sometimes, but not always, my mother's name appears when I call. Well, she does live here but her phone provider is totally different than mine but I am told that it is a problem with my equipment. How can that be when I have never used her name for any account or service?

Plus, after probably 2 hours of back and forth with them they keep telling me someone will get back to me to fix the issue. So far I have not heard from anyone! I also have people tell me that there is a beeping sound and ask me if I am recording the call...which I do not do. So the short story is don't use them because they do not provide what they claim and don't fix what is broken. I will be moving to one of their competitors shortly.

Also when I click on the MagicJack soft phone on my PC, a pop up ad for magic jack appears on top of the soft phone and when I hit "x" the soft phone also disappears! This has happened three times in the last 8-9 months. It worked after I contacted a rep the previous times but this is ridiculous. I only get a contact rep through online chat and even when the first rep could not get me a dial tone, he transferred me to another rep who asked the same questions and asked me to download the same thing, still with no dial tone. He then offered to mail me another Magicjack as long as I would pay shipping of 6.95. I told him no and asked what the refund terms were and there aren't any as there is no refund after the first 30 days. He then disconnected from the chat. If you choose to leave them, and want to take -YOUR- number to another carrier - they charge you over $32 to port the number to your new carrier. NONE of these charges are advertised anywhere on their site - or in their Terms of Service. The law states I have the right to port the number I've been using to the carrier of my choice - WHY should I incur an exorbitant charge from the carrier I'm dissatisfied with in order to leave them? Called and asked to have the call escalated to a supervisor to debate these underhanded practices - and was refused. Firmly believe they need to be turned over to the Attorney General's office and dealt with appropriately.

As I was away from home for an extended period, when I returned I was able to get it functioning again (I thought). Turns out incoming calls didn't work at all. My only recourse for tech support was chat - no access to a live person at all. After spending over 4 hours on chat with no results, I told them to either fix it or I was gone. No fix - so I switched carriers and tried to get them to release my phone number to the new carrier. No luck there either - totally unresponsive. My new carrier has excellent tech support for little more money, so that's that.

I have added port forwarding to my router, added a static IP to the device, then completely opened the device on my FireWall (DMZ). I plugged the device into my PC to do some firmware update and then back into my router, yet STILL all my calls, both inbound and outbound, drop within seconds! A majority of the time my friends tell me it goes directly to my voicemail and it never rings my house phone. The most embarrassing thing is, a few years back when I first got MJ, I encouraged others to drop their local carrier and get MJ too. Now they too are having issues...Too bad because MJ used to be a good service. Now it's gone to Hell. LOL. Needless to say I will NOT be renewing my MJ number this December. Before MJ I had Vonage for several years and while I was actually quite happy with them, even with the less than $20 month charges, my phone use didn't warrant keeping it, so I thought I'd try MJ. That was 2 years ago. Again, since I rarely call out and get maybe 2 calls a month in, the lesser quality over Vonage (and there was less) didn't matter all THAT much, but eventually I realized even $30-something a year was more than I needed, so when August came I didn't renew this time.

3 months later, I am still getting emails saying I have messages to my MJ number, it is still active (I called myself from my cell - it is). There is no calling or emailing CS, you need to chat online..which I did a few weeks ago. I was advised they keep number open for a few months "in case I change my mind". BS.. They keep it so I can't take it to another company without paying. In MY case, I don't WANT that number anymore so their loss - but I don't like the fact it IS an active account still with messages I will never, ever check being left. It's deceptive.

When I had had enough and wanted to port my number back to AT&T, they sent me a bill for $32.34. More than triple their $10 port fee!! I felt like my number was being held hostage.

I have posted negative online reviews in hopes of saving someone from the same experience I have had, and I just filed a complaint with the BBB. I'm waiting for their reply. Hopefully they will refund my money and make changes to how fees are represented on their website... And of course improving both the quality of their service and customer service would make a big difference too!

I got this device anticipating the process would be smooth. How wrong was I! I wished I'd read up on Magicjack before having one purchased. The one star should not even be an option as the customer service is of no assistance. Just like many, I had it purchased, paid the $60 after taxes, registered the device with my card which was expiring that very day and had service for three days until today.

When contacted, Kennex (definitely not the person's real name) attempted to brainwash me into believing I didn't register the device nor had a number assigned. I finally told him to stop with the condescending tone and assist where needed. He then attempted to get me to purchase another year of service and wanted remote access to my computer to which I stated no on 3 or 4 occasions.

When he could no longer help, or didn't care to, I was brushed off to 'higher assistance' who asked the same foolish questions. And this person actually CONFIRMED my transaction and said it was registered but my BANK threw it out because I'm in an area where the BANK doesn't know. This was utter nonsense as it then became obvious that MJ logs clients' IP addresses and I indicated this and that my financial banking institution has nothing to do with where I am, so they're lying. It automatically became, "Okay, how can we assist you in registering again for your NEW year of service", because, as the lady put it, I registered WAY BACK IN SEPTEMBER. What a joke! I registered 3 days ago and haven't gotten good service at all!

In addition to this, these people kept stressing THE ONLY WAY they could resolve this issue is to have remote access to my computer, and I refused on 6 different occasions until it become annoying and I simply told the person to scroll up and see the answer to it since they did not comprehend the last few times. The issue is still unresolved, but I thought it should be publicized as they're definitely into more than phone service if they have the capability of remotely accessing people's personal computers, and I'm even fearful they're doing this without the permission of the customer - since it is their only option to FIX a problem they create. Sickening to state the least. I will return the device and seek a full refund. Magicjack does not deserve to be in service.

I have been a magic jack customer for 5 years. I had vonage before that. I was actually looking for reviews on the magicjack go and stumbled upon this page. I use my magicjack for my business.. I only get about 4-5 calls a day. It has worked pretty much flawless for 5 years. Yeah every once in a while I get a voice mail, yet the phone never rang (about 1x every 2-3 months) and sometimes there is delay or echo. These are all common problems with VOIP. The problem is some of these reviews are just plain wrong. As stated I have had an original magicjack for 5 years. I run it on a low-end windows xp laptop sitting in the back of my shop. I have never had continuous problems like others complain about.

BTW I own a computer shop so I think I know what most of the other people's problems are. I read page after page of complaints. Many of them are legitimate, others are definitely user error. You cannot fault a company for charging to port your number. ALL carriers do this. Some cost more than others but they all charge. And YES, Your old carrier may be charging you to port the number out of their system. Yes, in some cases it can take days to port a number. This depends on what "system" your number is on. If you are porting an old POTS number (plain old telephone system) it will take longer than porting a number for a cellphone that is on the new system. The carrier actually has to go out and "terminate" the actual phone line. Hence fees for this.

I keep seeing others complain about calls not connecting and disconnecting when you're calling. Most of the time it's the computer's problem.. even if you have the mj go or plus and it's not plugged into the wall. VOIP requires bandwidth for quality. If you have a computer that lets say is infected with a virus. That virus could be taking up most of your bandwidth and causing issues.. You could have a bad router also. Try getting a google voice number (free) and making phone calls using a microphone and speakers.. if that works perfectly for you, then yes magicjack is at fault.. but if it does not, you have other issues.

Now let me address the "billing issues." I just online chatted with magicjack about upgrading mine to the GO. I was told flat out about ordering a new one and swapping it out with my old one and losing the 1 yr free service. But she also told me how to do it while registering my device that would allow me to keep my 1 yr free service. Most of the billing issues I read were all due to the user failing to read the contract and or the checkout procedure online. I have my magicjack setup on automatic renewal. I have never gotten charged more than I agreed.

I am not saying they are perfect.. FARRRRR from it. Overseas tech support is crap - although I never really use it unless I am contacting them with a quick question. When the MJ plus came out I ordered it immediately since I didn't want waste energy running my old win xp laptop anymore. I returned it within 6 hours after missing 4-5 phone calls. They did however return and refund everything with no problems. This was also right after the plus came out and I usually always give new tech a couple months before I purchase it. Also one more little complaint is the fact that I had my MJ set to forward to google voice through the my.magicjack.com website. (testing and Idea). Then all of a sudden it quit working. I logged into the site and MJ took that feature away?? #1 what phone can't you forward #2 what company takes features away while customers are using it? Anyway I hope my review is a little more helpful than some of the others... not saying they are all bad btw.

What a difference! Check your internet speed by running SPEEDTEST.NET before complaining about Magicjack. It just might be your internet!

They say free number. I bought like eleven years of service and the year after I bought it, they wanted to charge me for my number use so I canceled the rest of the next ten years and they wouldn't pay me my money back. They kept saying it on it way the bank has it so I was cheated out of my money with them

Customer Service

I also have had the same problems with MJ. We are 72 years old and rely on our original phone number. I was charged $10 to port my number and had to wait 10 days for my original number. MJ never worked when plugged into an outlet. I had to keep my computer on 24/7. The connection problems were horrible. The customer service is also horrible. I am going to file a complaint with the FTC and I would like every dissatisfied customer to do the same. Since reading all the complaints which reflect with my complaints, it is time for MJ to pay attention. The BBB and the Attorney General are also good options. I am trying to get my phone number ported to a reliable carrier and MJ is holding my number hostage and my doctor, pharmacy cannot get through to me. This behavior is criminal and very unsafe for Sr. Citizens.
