1 starThis company does not care about their consumers. My partner of 23 years died because he was accidentally given medication derived from ********** which he was allergic to and died from anaphylactic shock. It states it in his medical records, it states it on the autopsy. After waiting 9 months to hear something they deny the claim on my deceased partners birthday. What a way to say F- you and this claim. If I could give no stars I would.Review fromVeronica S

I have paid for grow up plan for my 2 kids. 1 I had taken my sons after 18...and my daughter had hers at 25. We called for cash value for 26 and 31 years which was around 2k. I kept getting forms for new application. Finally after 5 calls we received submission forms for cash valu. Today my daughter received a check for *****. That's 2k off. My son I recieved another bill and again no check for cash valu. So now I have to wait 2 days to fix my son's...and my daughter has to call to straighten hers out. Do NOT use Gerber...God help you need to use this and they don't pay for what they advertise. Just an awful frustrating situation to have to keep calling and it takes 3 people till you get the right person because their BOT is an awful experience as well. Keep looking for a different insurance.Gerber Life Insurance Company

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to respond. We apologize for any frustrations you experienced during the surrender process. Surrender forms were received and processed for two policies, and checks were sent to the address on file for each. The policy your daughter canceled was an Accident policy that did not accumulate cash value, so the refund received was an overpayment of premiums. We did locate one other policy for your daughter for which we did not receive a surrender form on. We are mailing a surrender form for her to complete should she wish to surrender that policy for the cash ********* were showing as the owner of your sons policy; the check for his policy was mailed to you at the address on file on May 16th. If you do not receive the check, please contact us at **************.Review fromLauri H

Gerber life sent my mother's death benefit via standard mail, with notification to me or anyone else for that matter. I only found out after calling them again to see where they were in the "processing" of the claim, that they had sent the check 2 weeks ago! They send their checks STANDARD mail, no way to track it! Their excuse is that "**** tracks everything anyways." We live in a rural town that has been having terrible mail issues, sometimes we don't get mail for several days, and when we do it it likely belongs to our neighbors. The check never made it to me, and they have no idea where it went. I made a total of 3 more calls requesting that they please, at the very least, send the check certified. I was willing to pay the extra cost. Called back a couple days later to find they resent standard mail!Gerber Life Insurance Company

All a scam! I am so disappointed. I have the grow up plan and my daughter is about to turn 18. I was told this plan would help with college and other basic necessities. The cash value is literally ***** after 7 years!! 7 years!! I was misled, I am so hurt. I thought I would be able to give her a start at life with the money. They lied so bad. Its a a SCAM!Gerber Life Insurance Company

Your concerns regarding your daughter’s policy have been shared with us and we appreciate the opportunity to respond. The Gerber Life Grow-Up Plan is a whole life insurance policy, which provides a death benefit to the beneficiary if the insured were to pass away while the policy is in force. Additionally, a whole life policy builds cash value over time, which can be borrowed against through policy loans, or received at time of surrender. The coverage under this policy doubles when the insured is 18 years old with no increase in premium and offers the ability to purchase additional coverage as an adult without evidence of insurability. The policy was mailed upon activation and shows that it is a whole life insurance policy. It also contains all the policy provisions such as the Payment of Proceeds provision. This provision shows what will be paid in the event of the insured’s death, as well as the cash value built should you decide to surrender the policy. The policy also allowed 30 days for you to review and return it for a full refund of premiums paid if you were not satisfied with it or if it did not meet your needs. If you would like to request a copy of your policy, please contact us at 1-800-253-3074 or email us at [email protected]. We are here to assist you with all your family’s life insurance needs.Review fromLori W

1 starOnly got the grow up plan to have some money ready to give my son upon HS graduation. Now trying to cash it in and it's IMPOSSIBLE. They won't answer phone calls or emails. Currently have been on hold for 36+ minutes. Sure didn't have trouble taking the money out of my account for 18 years. HORRIBLE company. And they've ruined the song Freebird because they play a 5 second clip on repeat the entire time on hold. Worst company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Oh, wait, I can't deal with them because they won't answer the phone. Steer clear!Review fromAmanda H

had a policy for my older child and my middle child since they were babies, called and canceled my ach payments over a year ago and then come to find out they need forms sent to them and they have been sending the letters in the mail (which i tossed because i assumed they were junk mail because i canceled) i call and talk to 1 person and they email me, never receiving the email and then transferred to another who mails it out a day later. call again 6 days later and they say it was mailed and can take 7 to 10 business days to receive, then email me again but oh you cant esign it has to be hand signed, its the 21st century everything is emailed and not hand signed. they need to get with the times. but then say i can pay a notary if i don't want to send in a copy of id but all this can also be emailed because i can up load it and email it all. they verify who i am over the phone but cant cancel and take their sweet time to get you all the cancelation info. they ended up canceling my 1 child's acct because he didn't have as much in his acct, now my other child's account will be likely emptied in the next few months because they are liars and scam people out of their money to fill their own pocketsGerber Life Insurance Company

I was encouraged to terminate policies that I had for 12 years with Gerber Life because the original person that set up the account was from a third-party and because we could not make changes to the policy without the third-party information. It was very difficult so I was informed by a Gerber representative to terminate the old policies and start new ones only to find out that the terminated policies went through and the new ones never started when I called today to ask why there were late payments. One representative informed me that she couldnt find any policies for me after spending so much money with this company only for all of it to go down the drain. This is truly a scam.Gerber Life Insurance Company

Another insurance company with shady practices. I didn't receive my cancellation paperwork in the mail the first time I asked for it. It's supposedly been emailed multiple times, but I'm not getting them. I'm receiving emails from other senders just fine. I find it odd that the one time my email doesn't work, is when I no longer want the policy. I imagine that by the time we do the back and forth of the postal service (if it comes), another billing cycle will have passed and the payout will be even less. I'm assuming it's not a coincidence that the speedy way of cancelling for a payout just isn't workin this time.Gerber Life Insurance Company

Office temporarily closed! No one answers the phone! Read some of the other complaints and the "Gerber" response team gives 800-two five three-3074 as the number to call. Guess what?...call that number and you get the same response and the automated system hangs up on you. Oh, but they sincerely apologize for the "inconvenience". We'll see what the "response team" says about this one.Gerber Life Insurance Company

On April 8, 2025, we upgraded to a new telephone platform to improve our customer experience and call handling capabilities. During the transition, we experienced some unexpected technical difficulties that temporarily impacted our ability to receive incoming calls. Our team quickly identified the issue and worked diligently to restore service as soon as possible. During the outage, customers were still able to access their policy information, make updates, and manage their accounts through our eService portal. Email support was also available through our website for those needing additional assistance.Review fromStephanie E

My husband passed on 2/9/25. I reported his death and the representative stated the claim should be proved within 15 days. I have called every phone number available and to this date have not been able to speak with anyone regarding the claim. Its saying they at temporarily closed. I wish he had purchased insurance from a legitimate company because I think Gerber is just a scam. Taking peoples hard earned money. They make sure that payment is deducted from the bank on time each month and then you cant even get them to deliver on what youve paid for. Gerber please get it act together and no lame excuses needed during our time of grief.Gerber Life Insurance Company
