The NMLS Federal Registry was created at the direction of federal banking regulators to fulfill the registration requirement of federally chartered or insured institutions and their mortgage loan originators in compliance with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s rules and the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (“SAFE Act”). The NMLS Federal Registry Resource Center provides institutions and mortgage loan originators with tools and guides for completing the mandated registration process in NMLS. Questions about the Federal Rule or the SAFE Act should be directed to an institution’s primary federal regulator.

New NMLS Resource Center Coming Sept. 20

We're launching a redesigned NMLS Resource Center on Sept. 20 to make it faster and easier to find the information you need. This update aligns with the NMLS Modernization Phase Two release and will replace the current state and federal resource center sites.
What You Need to Know
- Launch Date: Sept. 20
- Redirects: All old URLs and bookmarks will redirect to the new homepage.
- Content: Core NMLS materials will remain but may appear in new locations or formats. Outdated or unnecessary content will be retired. Here is an example of how content on the new Resource Center will appear.

- Simplified navigation based on user type and common tasks
- Improved search for faster access to up-to-date information
- Cleaned-up content, broken links and duplicates removed
- More self-help options to find answers easily
- User-focused design, tested with industry input
