My Kindergarten classroom! While designing my classroom I wanted to include flexible seating and focus on having the classroom environment enhance students' learning. Pictured below is a bird's eye view of my classroom. I wanted to have centers in my classroom for small group work and an area for a whole class to work. I wanted tables for my room because the students will be able to have other classmates to ask for help and get to know one another. The table are also able to be standing tables and sitting table so I can change it up and stack the chairs if I want the students to stand for a lesson that requires hands on activities such as making play dough or slime. I colored coded each group with color chairs. When we break into different centers the black, blue, red, green and brown groups will be designated to their center in the class. A feature for the whole class is the learning carpet in the front of the room. Here students will go to the puzzle carpet for read aloud time and for when we do interactive games and lessons on the SmartBoard. The centers in my classroom include a dramatic play area with a kitchen, easels for drawing and puppet show theater. This area concentrates on the imagination of the students which is essential for their growing. In the back corner is the reading library. I have bean bags and furniture for the students to sit and read or do independent work. Another center in my room is the table in the back with exercise balls. Here students will be also do independent work. The whiteboards in the back of the classroom by this table will allow me to work with the students in the back with the areas they are having problems in. The storage shelves by the windows and bathroom will be able to keep all the materials such as extra pencils, textbooks and paper. I can also put storage on the top of the shelves. I have a bathroom for the students and the closet with coat hangers to keep the students coats and backpacks.
Here is a peak into my classroom!
How does it connect to Danielson component 2E? Floorplanner connects to component 2E, organizing physical space. 2E focuses on the physical environment of the classroom. Teachers should organize the classroom in such a way to promote student learning. Teachers must make the classroom safe. Students must be able to see and hear the teacher at all times so they know what is going on and participate. Floorplanner allows teachers to create their classroom as a floor plan. This free website is a great way to design your classroom to enhance the student learning. The element Floorplanner connects to is the arrangement of furniture and use of physical resources. Students engage themselves in the content and work in productively when the arrangement and resources are properly used. When designing my classroom I kept this component in mind. Not only did I make my classroom safe for my students but I kept in mind how the students should be able to see me at all times and I should see them at all times. When arranging my tables and chairs into a U shape I made sure every student could see the interactive whiteboard. Reflection I really enjoy Floorplanner and being able to make the classroom I pictured in my head come to life. I was amazing to see the different tools that can be used in the classroom. I really like the variety Floorplanner gives you to make your classroom look fun and inviting. This tool was easy to use and understand and all in all a fun way to design a classroom. I could use this tool in my future classroom by designing my classroom with the furniture that is already provided and see where I could place each thing to where would be the most appropriate spot in the classroom. If I had a new idea for the arranging of furniture and did not know if it could be physically possible I could turn to Floorplanner to see if it can work. I could also have the students make a room as a project. When I was in my foods class in high school we have to draw our kitchen and everything in it and present it in front of the class. Using Floorplanner for this project would have been really cool to see each kitchen especially if someone was not a very good artist. Floorplanner supports pedagogy because it helps a teacher decide what could be used in the classroom. Teachers can use this tool to design their own classroom and find out what layout would be best to enhance their students learning. If a teacher has a layout in mind they can use Floorplanner to create that design then arrange their room accordingly.
