Teachers are often kind and try their best, but overworked, and being Florida, teachers are not allowed to create their own lessons or assignments, and there is very little flexibility as to how assignments are completed. Often, teacher responses to assignments fall along the lines of "Wow! This is a great essay, but unfortunately you didn't meet some of the arbitrary requirements that the state strictly enforces, so it's a 45/100." On top of that, the software can be described as a hot pile of garbage: Frequent crashes, completed assignments disappearing off the face of the earth - necessitating entirely restarting assignments from square one (sometimes multiple times for the same assignment), and just generally very slow and feels outdated.

Tech support is basically useless, and teachers aren't allowed to accept assignments that aren't submitted through the awful software (no written math work, etc.). Every time something goes wrong with the software, the response is basically, "Too bad, there's nothing we can do about it." FLVS is only slightly preferable to enduring the violent and hostile environment in brick and mortar schools in this state.

To start, I know all children learn differently. Some are advanced enough to find FLVS a success for them. However, my child, an average A & B student, Joined the second semester of 4th grade. He ended strong with good outcome for 4th grade. The teachers he had was pretty good teachers. This year however has been a whirlwind. I have found it to be a bit life consuming and miserable. It is often that your child may have to work on the weekend if he/she does not quite understand certain material in a lesson. If not the weekends, far past 3:30 (regular brick and mortar hours.) Not to mention specials like P.E., Art, Spanish, Computer science - all have their own assignments as well (typically, they give you an assignment due every 2 weeks). It doesn't seem like much, but it is when you're already trying to keep up with the other regular core curriculum classes. It's just an added stress.

Although I will say, the special teachers have all been wonderful. FLVS-FULL TIME- IS NOT "at your own pace." They are pretty lenient on when assignments are turned in however, they really want you to follow a weekly chart. If you don't, it's very easy to fall behind (which is why we work our butt off when extra time is needed for a certain lesson). I feel that the teachers for FLVS full time wants to do bare minimum. At least my son's teachers this year. Live classes are required for K-5 Monday-Wednesday and specials (2 classes) Thursday and nothing for Fridays. Seems cool but it's not. It's not enough for 5th grade with all the information they are trying to pound into them. At least, not for my child.

If your child has a question or problem, they typically have to wait to get help on a certain day at a certain time. which, is very annoying and can again also set you back. Also, I've noticed there is a lot of learning material and never going back to review it. It is basically up to you for your child to keep & retain the learned material. I would say this school is not for parents who think the teachers are going to do most of the teaching because it's FAR from the truth. Teachers teach Monday-Thursday from 9-11 While you, ("The learning coach") are left to fill in all the gaps from Monday- Friday (maybe even weekends) for however many hours it takes you.

Florida Virtual School - Full Time has taken away a lot of my personal family time. I feel like they take advantage of your time because you're "at home" so you basically have to just get over it. I do not plan to continue for middle school through Florida virtual full time. I feel like at the standpoint I am now, I MIGHT have been better off choosing FLEX since I pretty much teach everyday anyways. I do think this concept of flvs is much easier for children whom have been with flvs for quite some time or maybe advanced. I do as well know there are many in my shoes as well. Not to mention how my child's teacher is always late for class by 5 minutes every single class time and has been seen walking on a treadmill while in class. And good luck voicing your concern or opinion - it really doesn't matter to them just like any other school.

This school isn't self-paced and you can't use other resources than the ones you are using on their school website. Also if your kids have IEP or 504 plan, this school doesn't offer that accommodation.

To those of you who are considering this school, I don't recommend it. My experience was not the best. The communication with the teacher was not active and I would often find myself needing help with no reply, you can't work at your own pace and it is hard to complete everything beforehand. Therefore I would not consider joining your kid into the FLVS flex program.

Teachers want to much from you the work is hard and they dont help you they just rush you. Shut this horrible trash place down. My son gets rushed by teachers almost everyday saying he has not submitted work and then I check his compute and work is turned in get it together.

The reason why I genuinely hate FLVS is because you don't get the help needed. Not to mention the only way to learn on FLVS is by reading. So overall it deserves a 1 star and in the future I hope they close FLVS down!

I am not sure how people put up with this registration process. This completely idiotic interface has nothing to do with education. I have spent 6 months trying to register 2 children and it's now October and I spent 7 hr on the phone and the registration process and nothing. If you want to get your kids turned off from their education, FLVS is a good place to start. Nothing makes sense, it's complicated to navigate, it's not parent-friendly, even to register the children. I can imagine the nightmare the children will have using this platform. They need to erase the entire thing and rebuild it base on student and parent usability. This is terrible. The one in Texas takes 30 min and it's done.

Student entered school as a senior. Had her in the wrong class for first six months. She worked ahead so had to start over and nothing she had already done counted. THEN was told she could participate in the graduation ceremony. DAY BEFORE she's told she can't-after they invited her, and asked for a senior pic/quote. Local school board was just as bad. I would never in a hundred years recommend this school.

It's crazy that they say work at your own pace is a lie. It's hard to get in contact with the teachers. I barely can enjoy my personal life. It's so bad everyday I have to worry about this. It's stressful. I have my own life. They contact you many times. The teachers aren't helpful at all. I feel bad for ppl who does this. The questions be hard. They throw random questions in that THEY DON'T teach you. Jesus I would take anything back to get out of this. It's bad and the people who rate it 5 stars is for it to keep their crappy reviews up.

I already have stress in my life and this adds more. This isn't work at your own pace. The teachers will constant call you, send emails and messages 24/7 and it's stressful. I dont recommend this... I left inperson school to do this program due to covid and let me tell you this progam is way more stressful than in person school. I have no hope and I regret... Like I said don't do this. Lord I'm not lying. It's very hard. The teachers are useless and don't help at all. I feel bad for ppl who is stress out. If I can rate this A 0 I WILL!!!

I was one of the first students enrolled when FLVS first launched in 2010. Reading through old reviews, I feel justified in NOT listing FLVS on my job Applications.

The program lacked Communication with Local schools to allow me to attend ANY events, I was SPECIFICALLY told that I could do the following. I never got the "Walk" experience, I was denied entry to prom and participation in Clubs and Organizations, so my extracurriculars didn't count towards anything. I didn't qualify for Scholarships due to this. The curriculum was the same recycling of dates and facts as any school, but the lack of options as far as what can help you build for your future career was abysmal. Why does a Virtual High School need to use Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing or even have a class called "Computing for College and Careers" when all it was was glorified Typing Tests, I felt like I was being trained as a 1960's Secretary.

By far the worst experience was in Math. I have Dyscalculia. I struggle with Math. I needed help from the instructor, and when we FINALLY did have a call about my struggling in class, the teacher refused to listen to me ask for her to tutor me, and instead thought the best thing for her to say was "you don't need help, you're lazy. I have a student working 3 jobs and raising a baby that needs more help than you." Yes I remember her Exact words 10 plus years later, I NEEDED HELP AND WAS INSTEAD SHAMED FOR NEEDING HELP! I honestly worry that my Diploma is fake.
