NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) customers were unable to access their online banking app due to an IT outage this morning.

According to the website DownDetector, hundreds of online banking customers were unable to access services.

The Mirror originally reported that approximately 1,000 people have reported problems with NatWest while 40 reported issues with RBS- around 50% of customers having app issues and 50% problems with the website.

Users started reporting the issue at around 9.30 am this morning.

Upon trying to log in, NatWest app users get an error message telling them: "We're sorry, some kind of error has occurred when trying to establish a connection between your device and ourselves."

NatWest and RBS are owned by the NatWest Group who are affected by the IT issue.

Not all of the group's banks appear to have been affected by the outage, Ulster Bank and Coutts, the Queen's bank, is still operating as normal.

NatWest claims that the issue has been resolved and most users should be able to access their online banking.

They tweeted at around 11am: "We were experiencing some issues with the mobile app but all is resolved now! Please do check your app and let us know if this issue is still occurring."

What to do if you're still locked out of your online banking

If you can't get into your NatWest or RBS app, you may still be able to use online banking with no problems, as some users reported.

If you're unable to access either, you can call NatWest customer services on 03457 888 444 or locate your nearest physical branch here .

Last month an IT outage hit the UK's biggest banking group, Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers all struggled to access their accounts.
