What we liked about Showbie
Showbie can be set up in minutes. This means less time spent struggling with your tech setup and more time for teaching and learning. Showbie can be a great way to support and organize classroom learning. Students can also submit work to you through Showbie. It has the ability for students and/or teachers to leave voice notes with assignments. Multiple teachers can create classes within Showbie, so that students can see each class that they belong to. Then, they click on the class to see the assignments that the teacher has created for that class.
Both students and teachers have access to the wealth of tools that Showbie offers in order to complete the work. The children have been getting familiar with these tools in school so that they know exactly what to do when they need to use them independently. All of these tools are accessible whether you use the Showbie website to complete tasks or whether you work on the iPad app. The ‘pinned’ tools are moveable bubbles that allow the students to accurately label and comment on particular areas of their work.
Is Showbie free for teachers?
A free, basic version of Showbie is available for teachers. The pro version includes more features for sharing feedback with students and parents, developing student portfolios, creating a gradebook, collaborating with colleagues, and hosting class discussions. For schools and districts, you can request a quote based on your requirements.
How will teachers benefit?
It’s easy for teachers to create classes and import all of their students into a shared digital space. When the class is set up, teachers can collate assignments in to separate folders. Teachers are able to give due dates/times for assignments, thus not allowing work to be turned in late. Work is timestamped, so that the teacher can see exactly when it was turned in to Showbie. Teachers use Showbie (and also the class discussion) for Flipped Classroom and Blended Learning.
How will students benefit?
Students have all of the same capabilities as their teachers. They too can upload all of the different file types to the shared assignment folder. Students can then choose to keep them in Showbie or upload them to Google Drive or Notability, if they have their own method of organization that they'd like to use.
