Cancel my old Freedom Mobile account

Hi,

I've switched to PM, and ported my old Freedom number to PM.

The PM service seems to be working as planned

Now, how do I get rid of my old Freedom account? I was under the impression that once the number is ported the old carrier will cancel the account. Not Freedom :[. They keep on emailing me that I have no phone number (no kidding)

Is there anything special that I have to do?

Ideas?

If your freedom number has successfully switched over to PM, they shouldn't be able to charge you anymore money assuming you're on a postpaid account. They should theoretically pro-rate the amount of money that's owed to you (which means to charge you by the day) until the end of your billing cycle with Freedom. So in other words, if you've already paid your bill, they should refund you in the form of a cheque for the amount of money they owe you because you ported out already.

I would call in and ask Freedom's customer service to ensure that your account status is closed properly.

I have actually had Wind Mobile keep charging me after a port out. However, I would advise against contacting Freedom to asking about cancellation unless there is a specific reason to think that they didn't do things properly. In my case, my number was full ported out but my Wind service kept working.

The problem with calling Freedom to ask about cancellatuon status relates to how many customers do not truly understand when a number port is complete.  If the customer calls in before porting has completed, the customer may very well request cancellation at the old carrier. This will cause number porting to fail.

It's almost always a bad idea to contact the old carrier (unless it's to pay any final bills).

Normally when you port your phone number successfully away from any carrier, the account will automatically close UNLESS the postpaid account contains multiple phone numbers, in which the account status will remain as active until all the phone numbers no longer exist on that account. If you only have one phone number with Freedom Mobile on that account, there may be a technical error going on. If the first representative with Freedom cannot help you, you can request to speak to their tech support if it's a technical issue, or ask to speak to a manager. Alternatively, you can also visit a Freedom Mobile Kiosk/Store in person at a higher traffic location and see if they have any experience with your current issue.

@DinoFlint  If you are on a postpaid account with Freedom, you should also be receving a credit or cheque for any unused portion of your bill cycle. Followup with them to ensure that this will happen, unless you ported out on the last day

After chatting with an agent, it looks like they cancelled my account the following day after porting the number. However, there is nothing on myaccount on their site to make a note that this ais an innactive/cancelled account

Weird

Maybe that will help somebody else :]

Try logging in here with your username (since you don't have a number?) and see if you can cancel there, I guess.
