How to Log in to WeChat on PC or Mac

This wikiHow teaches you how to sign into your WeChat account when you're using a computer. Signing in to WeChat on a computer allows you to continue chatting with your contacts on a larger screen with a regular keyboard, which can be useful for longer conversations. Whether you're using Windows or macOS, you can either download the desktop app or use WeChat in your web browser. Make sure to have your phone or tablet handy, as you'll need it to verify your login.

Web Browser

Open WeChat on your phone or tablet. You'll need to have WeChat open on your phone when you sign in on your computer. If you’re not already signed on your phone or tablet, sign in now.
- You must have WeChat installed and signed-in on your phone to log in on your computer. If you don't have your phone or tablet running the WeChat app, you won't be able to use WeChat in your web browser or in the desktop app.
It’s at the top-right corner of WeChat.
This opens the WeChat code scanner.
Go to https://web.wechat.com on your computer. You can use any web browser, such as Safari or Chrome. A large QR code will appear.
As soon as the mobile app’s QR scanner captures the code, you’ll see your profile photo appear on the computer screen.

Tap Log In on your phone or tablet to confirm. You will see the WeChat home screen in your web browser. While you're signed in on your computer, mobile WeChat notifications will be disabled.
- If you haven't signed in to WeChat in a while, you may see an error that says you can't log in on the web "to protect your account." If this is the case, you can still log in to WeChat using the Windows or macOS desktop app.
- To sign out of WeChat on your computer, click the menu at the top of the left column and select Log Out.

Go to https://www.wechat.com in a web browser. This method will help you download the WeChat app to your Windows computer. You’ll need to have your Android, iPhone, or iPad handy.
- You must have WeChat installed and signed-in on your phone to log in on your computer. If you don't have your phone or tablet running the WeChat app, you won't be able to sign in on Windows.
It’s the first of the three white icons in the bottom-right area of the page.

Click the Download button. It’s the button near the left side of the screen. This downloads the WeChat installer to your PC.
- You may have to click Save or a similar option to start the download.
Once the download is complete, you’ll usually see a link to WeChatSetup.exe at the bottom of the browser window. Click it, if so. If not, navigate to the folder where you saved the file (usually the Downloads folder), then double-click the file to run it.
WeChat will now install on your computer. When it’s finished, you’ll see a confirmation message and a green button that says “Run.”
A QR code will appear with the message “Log in using Scan QR Code.”
You'll need to have WeChat open on your phone when you sign in on your computer. If you’re not already signed on your phone or tablet, sign in now.

Go to http://www.wechat.com in a web browser on your Mac. This method will help you download the WeChat app to your Mac. You’ll need to have your Android, iPhone, or iPad handy.
- If you don't have your phone or tablet running the WeChat app, you won't be able to use WeChat in your web browser or in the Mac app.
It’s the second of the three white icons in the bottom-right area of the page.
This opens the WeChat homepage in the App Store.

Download WeChat to your Mac. Click GET, then click INSTALL APP to start the download. When the installation is complete, WeChat will be installed to the Applications folder.
- You may have to sign in with your Apple ID before you can download WeChat.
You’ll find it in the Applications folder. To access this folder, open Finder (the smiling Mac icon in the Dock), click the Go menu, then select Applications.
You'll need to have WeChat open on your phone when you sign in on your computer. If you’re not already signed on your phone or tablet, sign in now.

What do I do if only a blank screen appears when I try to use my QR code scan?

If that happens, your WeChat account may have not been verified. If that happens to you, then go into your settings to see if your account has been verified. If it is has, log out and sign in again. It should work after that. Otherwise, follow the steps to verify your account.
