When I booked my last trip I chatted up the rep on the phone. At the end she randomly gave me this discount. Saved us 288 off the cost of a 5600 dollar trip.

how do they determine the discount given? Is it a set percentage or random?

For Thomas Cook F&F, it was a small percentage off the usual Sunquest/Sunwing fare.

If you didn't mean to you wouldn't have.

One of my best friends works for Sunwing... It's 6-8% off the base price BEFORE taxes. Minimal and not worth the effort- and usually any TA can give you something similar (Call Sell Off Vac since Sunwing owns them).

Employees get other perks like 50% off flights and cheap standby but you have to be with them.

Would be surprised if anyone was actually willing to give something like that out on a message board.

It would be very silly for an employee of any airline to share their benefits with a random Internet forum stranger, if they have a desire to keep those benefits and possibly their job there.

Might be even rarer to get someone to actually admit working for the absolute worst vacation provider in the industry.
