O.P.

Hi guys,

My question is toward anyone who utilises Commonwealth Bank or CommSec (or anyone who has a similar situation with a bank)

I'm trying to set up my CommSec account (for the first time) so I can begin my investing journey. On the CommSec page it allows you to set up your account through NetBank (which I have as I have been with CBA since my birth). When you do this option it asks for you Client ID number and password, in which you use for signing in to NetBank – makes sense as thats where my investing money is situated.

Problem is when I sign into it through CommSec, it says "sorry, we are unable to validate your details".
Then another message says "Unfortunately the details you've entered do not match our records, please try again."

I thought maybe it was my fault with the passwords/number I was entering but when I use the same credentials for NetBank (on both PC and my phone) it works crystal with no problems. But on CommSec it says its not valid.

I spoke with CommSec helpline and they were baffled, so they transferred me to the NetBank support line to see if it was NetBank causing the issue. But NetBank were also baffled and said I need to speak with CommSec as they don't associate with investing accounts.....round the wheel we go.

Has anyone had this issue before? Is there a way around this? My passwords and client ID number are exactly as issued from when I first signed up to NetBank so what could cause this?

Set up Commsec without your netbank details. Walk in to any branch and have them link Commsec to your existing Netbank login afterwards.

Oh didn't know they could do that! Is that a quick simple process?

I had this issue. My recollection that it was a different formatting of my address in Link and Netbank. Like one said: 5/9 Somewhere Street and the other was 5 9 Somewhere Street.

That is, it relates to your details, not your credentials. ComSec were aware of the issue and helpful. I got Link to change my details, and then all went through.

My local branch is terrible for service, always wasting your time teaching you to suck eggs to do stuff online when you know how to but just want quick service, or fobbing you off entirely but while they’ve got you, try to sell you stuff, so I just take the hint! They’re really sales staff, not customer service. The phone service is better.

Alright cool. So I went through the NetBank 'offers' section online and it has now created two different profiles with my name – unfortunately I knew this was going to happen but I went to the branch yesterday to have it combined.

I tried to log on using the 'second account' created (which is not my everyday banking account on NetBank) and the client number and password that I had to create with it no longer work – therefore, we can assume that they have shut that account. Good.

But now I log onto CommSec with my number and password, I'm signed in with my CDIA but when I click the 'NetBank' toggle option on the top of the page which allows you to switch between CommSec and NetBank at will, it doesn't show my normal everyday account. It shows 'CommSec shares' and 'CDIA' both empty (obviously) but no link to my proper account.

Is this what's supposed to happen? Am i supposed to see my CommSec or CDIA in my actual NetBank or is the CDIA stored in a seperate one to transfer money to?

I thought you could just transfer money to CommSec.

It’s a bit hard to know without seeing it what you have in front of you. However, the CDIA account is just another account that should be visible in NetBank or in your iPhone banking app. Any transfers to or from CommSec go through that account and not direct to “ComSec” as I thought also. Though not intuitive, this does make sense as there are obvious advantages to having a ringfenced trading account.

It was 15 years ago when I set mine up,

I have a different account # and pass word for Combank and Comsec

The comsec share values show when I log into my Combank account as part of the total funds.

I have never been able to just click on the comsec link and get to Comsec

You need to get your login account # and pass word info from Comsec, they are a different division

Hi

I have separate log in details for Commbank and Commsec. However when I am logged into Commbank I can select "Commsec" from the top tab in the web portal and it directs me to Commsec without any further log in details so it can be linked.
