Historically they have had a reputation for having a poor culture led by the owner, news travels fast in the industry. I decided to apply for a senior management role because I had heard that the culture had changed. I was successful in the first round the interview was terrific and then I was booked in for the second round interview which was to be held with the owner. While I was in the car and on my way to the interview i received a call from the recruitment team saying that the owner had to take a last minute trip to Sydney and they had to cancel. There was no follow up so after a few week I called HR to discuss alternate arrangements and they told me that the application would not be progressing any further and when I asked for feedback they would not give me a reason why. The culture is still clearly poor, they talk about no ego and hiring genuine people in their latest advertising for area managers but it is clearly the opposite, they are advertising what they are not!
The good thingsNot applicable was only part of the recruitment process
The challengesThe culture of the business

    10/10 would work again.
The good thingsI enjoy how helpful everyone is, and how quick to jump to assistance if you need help. The environment is incredibly supportive and always a good vibe all around.
The challengesThe main challenges would be keeping up with the pace, however learning the handle to things and such isn't as difficult as needing to fasten your pace and making sure people get the correct orders.

Stay away from this job, virtually anywhere else will pay you better.
The good thingsFree burger if you work over 5hrs, some friendly coworkers.
The challengesWorst job I've ever had. The workload as a TM is bad, but as a TL it's just ridiculous for the amount you're paid. Lazy rostering means your shifts are disorganised and often understaffed and they can roster you every day of the week if they want to, very hard to balance work and studies. Toxic culture with management often feeding into petty gossip, being a part of their little clique means better treatment/hrs. By yourself, as a TL you're expected to manage the absolute mountain of daily tasks, KPIs, Uber and online orders, shift changes, mystery shops, wait times, long/late shifts, AND keep on top of the whole restaurant, staff and customers at the same time for below minimum wage! You are constantly micromanaged and nitpicked and any failure is met with criticism in front of other workers, shaming, and petty gossip instead of finding proactive solutions. Just work somewhere else that at least pays their workers legally.

Life-changing opportunities if you give a little - you get a lot
The good thingsThe people, the management genuinely care for you, the career development and opportunities to be a business partner or owner can be life-changing.
The challengesSometimes the hours aren't super sociable - but you have your team with you!

    Suppportige and ENJOYABLE job
The good thingsReal family vibe within the work team, opportunities to learn every station and advance your hospitality knowledge, feels good to be providing customers with healthy casual food options, cert 3 in hospitality which comes with RSA plus a bonus and pay rise upon completion of 1 year traineeship
The challengesThe busy nights can become stressful but the team is so caring and understanding and look out for you 24/7.

Management culture was not the best, too many inconsistencies and frequently changed restaurant managers/ assistant restaurant managers. It’s compulsory to do a traineeship so they can legally pay you lower wages, I had to push to be able to finish it so my pay could improve. At 19 I was earning $12.50 hourly. I personally would not recommend ever working at a grill’d if you value your self worth.
The good thingsFree food if worked over 5 hours
The challengesManagement culture, forced traineeship to pay lower wages to staff

The good thingsGood break food, good hours, great team
The challengesTerrible pay that is below minimum wage. Pretty hard to work for $15 an hour as a uni student.

The challengesThe management team was by far the worst I’d seen. If you reported things it was dismissed. Boss was extremely misogynistic.

Team environment is great, exciting & engaging campaigns aligned to Grill'ds brand & career progression/exposure
The good thingsThe people within Grill'd are great - not just amongst my inner team/department, but the wider business. There's a great connection between Support Office & Restaurant. Since working at Grill'd I've had great career progression & exposure in my role, getting to work on some massive campaigns and partnerships that align with Grill'ds brand. The other perks for working at Grill'd are of course the free burgers, there's a great social club that organise office events, lunch & learns, great opportunities to get involved in the community with the local matters programs, City Support dinners to volunteer at.
The challengesProject deadlines and last-minute changes can be frustrating. Although this is the same at other companies I've worked at.

Working with friends, getting paid to study, and enjoying free burgers.
The good thingsAt Grill'd, I've been able to juggle my studies with a hospitality certificate. It's been a rewarding experience balancing work and education. Once I finish the traineeship, I'll have a solid qualification to kickstart my career journey.
The challengesWorking at Grill'd can be fast-paced and demanding.

Structured & supportive training programs helping with career progression
The good thingsI started as a team member & completed the traineeship, progressed through to a Team Leader. From there I went on the Team Leader to Assistant Restaurant Manager structured 8-week program. Grill'd has prioritsed the learning & development of it's restaurant teams, with dedicated trainers for each state who roll out training programs for current employees and new people joining Grill'd. I work with a great bunch of people which is an added bonus!
The challengesUsual hospo things - it can be go go go during peak service times but that's the industry and the same everywhere.

    Good people, bad organisation
The good thingsCollegues were super helpful, chatty and willing to lend a hand, especially early on.
The challengesThe pay was horrific, especially for the amount of work and stress that was involved and you would almost constantly be asked to come in on non-working days.

Amazing team environment, supportive & structured onboarding, fun work perks and free burgs!
The good thingsThe people you get to work with every day! Ever since I started, my team and the wider departments in the business have been welcoming and I've made lifelong friends. I have ongoing support from my manager who pushes me to progress in my career. The extra perks working at Grill'd include free monthly "burger bucks'! Free tickets to Melbourne Storm games all season long, even getting the chance to be in the guard of honour, epic social club events - pickleball, lawn bowls, gelato stands, lunch and learns with internal and external guest speakers and staff parties. Community involvement is great, being able to give back to those doing it tough with City Support Tuesdays, Local Matters programs.
The challengesWorking from home split is 4 days in the office, 1 day at home. It doesn't bother me much as the day at home is enough for me and I like being in the office. However, it may be an issue for others thinking of joining Grill'd

rewarding and educational, everything at grill'd has made me happy :)
The good thingsWorking at Grill'd Healthy Burgers offers a dynamic and engaging work environment with a focus on healthy food and fresh ingredients. The restaurant setting promotes teamwork and collaboration, helping you build valuable interpersonal and customer service skills. Opportunities for growth and flexible scheduling provide a chance for career advancement while having the ability to simultaneously balance other commitments. Additionally, I enjoy employee perks like food discounts and a fun, casual atmosphere.
The challengessometimes the trainee pay is a challenge however it is worth it as the job is amazing and when trainees graduate from the cert, the pay goes up a lot.

Great work culture but if you want to make any money or be looked after you are looking completely in the wrong place.
The good thingsWork culture is awesome, the people I worked with were wonderful. Work itself was fairly easy and you had many growth opportunities. Flexible hours.
The challengesPay is honestly horrific, they still have not cleaned up their act on that front. Incompetent management from in-store and head office. Zero regard for employees and our concerns and as a result kitchen staff morale suffered. Team leaders were stretched thin. Kitchen appliances were always broken and stock was not managed properly.
