ALDImobile review: Our verdict

ALDImobile's 30-day no-frills plans are affordable and cost no more than $55 a month.

Its services operate on the Telstra 3G, 4G or 5G mobile network which is definitely a plus if you're looking for decent coverage at a low cost.

Here are some reasons why ALDImobile might be right for you:

  • Unlimited data rollover means your unused data won't go to waste and you're far less likely to hit your monthly data cap and be cut off from the internet.
  • You can choose to pick up an ALDImobile SIM card at any ALDI store at your convenience or purchase it online.
  • Easy-to-use app lets you manage your plan on the go.
  • Family plans are available to pool your data on one account with multiple SIMs.
  • Unlimited international calls and texts to 20 select countries on certain plans.

But keep in mind that:

  • Those living in some rural and regional areas may struggle with Telstra's wholesale coverage.
  • ALDImobile's pay-as-you-go roaming rates are expensive. You will be better off with a local SIM.

Value for money

ALDImobile's plan prices start at $19 for 10GB and go up to $59 for 175GB.

You get decent data allowances for how much you're paying each month.

In fact, the higher the data limit the more value for money when stacked up against our $1 per GB benchmark.

ALDImobile's 30-day expiry family plans give you a hefty wad of data to share between multiple people.

There are 3 plans to choose from and all offer 5G access.

The smallest can be shared with up to 2 services, the middle one with 4 services and the largest one with 6 services.

These are slightly better value than buying 2–6 equivalent prepaid plans but they're only worth it if everyone on the account ends up taking advantage of the data allowance.

ALDImobile also sells a PAYG plan that lasts for 365 days.

This is a good long-term option if you barely need data and only make the occasional call or text.

You start with a SIM card and a $5 credit.

After that, you can recharge and stock up on $15, $25 or $35 worth of credit that lasts a year.

You won't be charged for receiving calls or texts on this plan, only for sending them.

Things to watch out for

  • PAYG can be a great long-expiry option, but data costs add up quickly. If you're going to use a lot of data, you will be better off getting a proper SIM only plan.
  • The family plan has no data controls. Anyone with a shared SIM can burn through the total data allowance, leaving nothing for anyone else.

Coverage

If coverage matters to you, ALDImobile is one of the better choices.

  • You get access to Telstra's wholesale mobile network, which reaches 98.8% of the population.
  • This slight difference between Telstra's wholesale and full network will mostly be felt in regional and rural areas.

Does ALDImobile have 5G?

ALDImobile offers access to Telstra's 5G network on all family plans and most 30-day plans.

customer service Icon

Customer service

If you need help, you can get in touch with ALDImobile 7 days a week using the following options:

  • Ring the call centre between 8am and 9pm AEDT, Monday to Sunday.
  • Lodge a support ticket via your online account portal if you have a problem.
  • Keep in mind: Even though you can pick up a SIM card at an ALDI store, you probably won't get face-to-face mobile support from anyone working there.

Bonus features

ALDImobile only has a couple of extra features on its plans, but they can be pretty handy.

🔄 Unlimited data rollover

Any data you don't use rolls over to future recharges, just as long as you recharge before your plan's expiry date. This will offer some peace of mind to anyone who might use a different amount of data month to month.

🌏 International inclusions

This feature lets you make unlimited international calls and texts to 20 selected countries on all of ALDI's SIM only plans except for the entry-level $19 plan.

It's useful if you have friends or family overseas that you'd like to stay in touch with.

Which rivals are giving ALDImobile a run for its money?

For better coverage on the Telstra network:

boost mobile logo

Boost Mobile could be a better pick since it has access to Telstra's full 4G network rather than just the wholesale version that ALDI uses (99.5% of Australians vs 98.8%).

For similarly priced plans and features:

amaysim logo

amaysim offers affordable plans on the Optus network as well as a bunch of similar features to ALDImobile such as unlimited data banking and international call inclusions.

For high-data plans:

circles.life logo

If you need more data at an affordable price, Circles.Life is a great choice, especially since the telco's almost always slinging promotional offers.

This is not a problem. When you activate your ALDImobile SIM, you can register to port your existing mobile number to your new ALDI service within a couple of days.
