VIJAYAWADA: In a move to gear up the students to face prestigious civil service examinations, Andhra Loyola College on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the New Delhi-based renowned coaching institute, Dr Lakshmaiah IAS academy.
Speaking to the media, college principal Dr GAP Kishore said that the MoU had helped them design the Bachelor of Arts (BA) courses in tune with the future needs of the students. He said that it was a privilege for their institute to rope in a prestigious institute like Dr Lakshmaiah academy to guide and mentor their students to take on all service examinations.
Former special chief secretary Dr
Manmohan Singh has been named as director-general of the new chapter of Dr Lakshmaiah academy to handle the courses at Loyola College. For the first time in southern India, two new courses at the Bachelor of Arts (BA) level were being introduced in Loyola college with a sole target to face civil service exams. Dr Manmohan Singh said that introducing public policy and anthropology as a stream at graduation level is the first time in southern India.
“Students were needed at least 3-4 years to handle these subjects to crack the civil service examinations after completion of the graduation. With the introduction of the course right at the degree level, they would be ready to take the coveted civil services right after the completion of graduation,” said Dr Singh. He explained that they have designed the courses with complete material to take the load of civil service examinations.
Dr Lakshmaiah said that quality education would be made available to the students through the new courses. He said that the presence of Dr Manmohan Singh would itself give the students required exposure to the civil service stream. Dr Lakshmaiah academy secretary Vasireddy Surekha and Father Kishore exchanged MoU documents during a ceremony held in the college.
