So i bought 2 PSnetwork cards today (20€ each) to take advantage of the current PSN sales,i entered the codes on PSN and added the money to my wallet, put the games in my cart and when i proceed to buy the games Sony asks me to verify my account by entering the details of a CC.

The message says:"Your last sign in was on a different console. Please verify a credit card on your account in order to continue".

Like seriously WTF??I mean i already bought the cards and put the money on my wallet. Why do they want me to enter CC details??

They do this for security reasons. You last bought something on a different console (at least that what it says) so they just want to confirm its you by confirming the CC details already on the account.

I ran into this and didn't have the card on me at the time. I bypassed it by purchasing on the phone app.( I'm sure web store will work too)

Seems like it's basically using your CC info as a second authentication factor to prevent people who steal your account credentials from making purchases.

Of course considering that the web store doesn't/can't have this sort of thing going on I'm not sure how much it actually helps in this use case?

Sounds like a security measure since you've been using the same account to buy stuff from different consoles. Shouldn't be an issue with the website, I think.

edit: nevermind I see you got around it.

But what if someone who buys a new Sony console doesn't want to enter their CC details and only use network cards to buy stuff from the store?

I guess their only choice is to use the web store?

It doesn't matter. If you have a card on that account, it's on their server. Buying a new console doesn't change anything. If you don't want anything stored on the console, after verifying you can still remove the card info from the console I believe.

Yeah just use the webstore it's faster than using PS3 and PS4 Stores.

So basically when someone buys a Sony console for the first time (and obviously have no prior account) do they have to add CC details in order to buy stuff directly from their console?

you could just use a paypal test CC number that all businesses use to check if their systems are working.....it'll just deny every purchase unless you have wallet money

Nope. I removed my credit card details from my account and just work off of PSN cards now. Because my account has no credit card tied to it, PSN shouldn't ask me for details as verification.

Nope. This is just a security verification because you had a card on the account before.

There is a option "I don't have the card with me right now" that lets you skip the verification.
But it will erase the card info that you had in you account.
