They then proceeded to call my work number because I wasn't answering during working hours. I had to call them to ask them to stop or they would risk getting me fired, which would lead to my bankruptcy, and then they would never receive payment. Moreover, I would take action against them. Since then, I've attempted to answer and talk, but again they are too difficult to attempt an agreement with and have proceeded to call me 5-8 times daily which is extremely excessive considering it was less than a month late.
I'm simply not going to answer them at this point because they have already proven that they're too difficult to talk to. Which, to me, is incredibly foolish. I'm a month late and already unwilling to speak because of their behavior. They're trying to convince people to pay their bills, and they come in aggressively right from the start. Interesting approach, if the goal was to ensure the customer is at maximum anger moments into your first communication.
Had I been in a situation where I didn't care about my credit, I would avoid them indefinitely out of pure spite at this point. They're a major bank acting like slimey creditors, which reeks of desperation. It seems a few too many customers have decided to put BMO at the bottom of their payment priority list, and they're feeling the effects. I can't imagine why.
If it isn't clear by now, I'm recommending not to get involved with this bank. The moment this card is paid off, I'm throwing in into the dumpster where it belongs. I'm experiencing temporary troubles that will be resolved soon, and I will never forget this experience with BMO. Nevvverrrrrr
Do not use BMO Harris. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this bank for business or personal use.
Moreover, any time I needed to make changes to my account, they asked me to email my requests to an unusual email address. This process raised two questions for me: First, why is there a need for a customer service department if all requests are managed through email? And second, why use a complicated email address that's difficult for clients to remember and not readily available online?
The issues extend to their website and how they manage the HELOC. Despite my efforts to pay off my balance, I continually found small charges added the following month. Their explanations for these charges were always convoluted. Most notably, after settling my balance and deciding to keep my account open, they unexpectedly withdrew $1,500 from my bank account at the start of the month. They claimed it was due to an autopay setting and instructed me to cancel it via email to prevent future withdrawals. This situation highlighted how flawed their system is, unable to detect when no payment is due yet still proceeding with account withdrawals.
These experiences are just a few examples of the difficulties I've had with BMO Harris over the past four years. Based on these experiences, I cannot recommend their services and have decided not to conduct any further business with them in the future.
When I asked for a customer feedback number or email, they said they don't have one. They only have a mailing address. BMO customer service failed me, and the only way to notify them about it is if I write a letter and mail it to them.

How much is the BMO Harris overdraft fee?
The BMO Harris overdraft fee is $15 per transaction that overdraws your account, if you have a BMO Harris checking account that allows overdrafts. Some BMO Harris accounts will not charge an overdraft fee but only because transactions that would overdraw your account will be declined.
Key Things to Know About BMO Harris Overdraft Fees
- Not all accounts are eligible for overdraft services. While most of BMO Harris's checking accounts come with overdraft capabilities, not all of them do. For example, any transaction that would overdraw the BMO Smart Money Checking account will automatically be declined. Therefore, the BMO Smart Money Checking account will never be charged overdraft fees.
- Overdraft fee waivers could be available. If this is your first time overdrawing your account, your bank may agree to waive the overdraft fee as a courtesy. Call BMO Harris at 1 (888) 340-2265 to request to have your overdraft fee waived.
- You must opt-in to some overdraft services. By default, checks and recurring debit card transactions may go through even if you don't have sufficient funds in your account, resulting in an overdraft fee. However, you must opt-in to allow your account to be overdrawn by individual ATM or debit card transactions. If you do not opt-in to this service, any requested ATM or debit card transactions for which you do not have sufficient funds will be declined, and your account will not be charged.
- You can set up overdraft protection to prevent fees. If you're concerned about overdraft fees, BMO Harris offers a service called overdraft protection that allows you to link a BMO Harris savings account, money market account, line of credit, or second checking account to your main checking account. In the event that your account does not have sufficient funds for a requested transaction, funds will be transferred from the linked account to the main account to cover the purchase.
- BMO Harris will only charge you up to 3 overdraft fees per day. Even if you attempt transactions that would overdraw your account more than 3 times in a day, you will only be charged 3 overdraft fees.
- Excessive overdrafts could have other consequences. Fees aren't the only way banks punish you for overdrawing your checking account. If you have too many overdrafts, BMO Harris may report it to ChexSystems. ChexSystems is like the credit reporting agencies, but for bank accounts. If you've ever mishandled a bank account in the past – by bouncing checks, having too many overdrafts or failing to pay fees, for example – you may have a ChexSystems report. Based on the information contained in this report, a bank may refuse to accept you as a customer in the future.
BMO Harris's overdraft fee of $15 per transaction is below average. According to WalletHub's latest Banking Landscape Report, the average overdraft fee for checking accounts in the United States is $27.79.
