Description

Do you use Creative Curriculum’s Teaching Strategies Gold in your classroom? After using it for the past 6 years, I have found each year, as I approached a new curriculum, I was scrambling to come up with the materials I would need for each unit. With this set, you won’t have to! Utilizing this set in your classroom, you will have all of the materials necessary to create an Anchor Chart reflecting the “Signs” unit. This downloadable set includes the TSG Anchor Chart topics of:

- What do we know signs? What do we want to find out?

- What are the characteristics of signs?

- Where are signs found?

- How do signs help?

- Who works with signs?

Each topic features child-friendly picture cards to correspond with each topic, prompting active teacher-student discussion and interaction. Exploring each topic, students can share what they know about Signs in a way that makes sense to them, with topic questions and visual aides that are targeted towards young visual learners. This set includes 7 pages of common and unique signs, with 42 images total. In addition, we have included 2 pages of clickable and linked book images for books to supplement the curriculum. Also included are Questions of the Day, as well as cards to play Signs Bingo.

This set has included both quality clip art, as well as real photographs to enhance student learning. In addition, there is a bonus conversation starter "What does this sign mean?" to be used with an included blank stop sign, as well as what stop signs look like in different parts of the world. Students can also use this prompt to make observations about Similarities and Differences, which are also headers that are included in this set. Students can also sort signs into different shape categories.

To best use this set, print, laminate, and cut. I prefer to add a small magnet piece to the back of each item, so that I can use it with my students on our white board. The pictures used in this set are surrounded by a black square, and are the perfect size for young children to utilize themselves, with guidance. While this set is designed around the TSG curriculum, the opportunities for use are endless!

In addition, this “Signs” unit features an additional "Ideas to Celebrate Learning" at the end of the set. This includes a project for students to explore shapes, as well as posters for them to create their own signs and write about what it means. This unit also includes both Sign and Shape BINGO, as well as Sign and Shape Treasure Hunts, to be completed either in the classroom, or at home with their families.
