I recently got transferred at work, and I really liked where I ended up. It’s a great location by the beach.

I’ve got everything I need nearby and everything I don’t, at an easy jogging distance.

The only downside is that I can’t transfer my Google Fiber to my new place because it is not available here.

So, before I shifted, I sat down and researched what I could do with my Google Fiber because I didn’t have much time and didn’t want any complications while I moved.

I settled on canceling it and compiled a comprehensive guide on the process based on my experience of getting it done ASAP.

To Cancel Google Fiber, sign in to your Google Fiber account. Then, go to profile, and look for the cancel Google Fiber option. Then, follow the instructions that appear and return the equipment.

Possible Reasons For Cancelling Google Fiber

While Google Fiber is quite popular in the US and offers many benefits to its customers, there are quite a number of people who don’t want to continue with the services due to a variety of reasons.

High Price

Even though they offer high-speed internet, the price of Google Fiber is quite high.

There are two service packages available, 70$ /month for 1000 Mbps and 50$ /month for 100 Mbps.

Even though the former seems reasonable compared to the other, not many people need such high-speed internet at home, so they go for cheaper alternatives.

Irregular Services

High speed becomes irrelevant when you have to deal with inconsistent services.

The company faces quite a lot of downtimes which is more than what an average customer can bear.

You expect consistency. When that is not offered for the price you pay, you would obviously want to switch plans.

Other Competitive Services

With the high price and inconsistent services offered by Google Fiber, other companies have upped their game.

They offer improved services at reasonable rates, so people naturally opt for the most cost-effective one.

Lack of service in some regions

When you move to a different region, as in my case, their services might not be available there, forcing you to cancel the subscription.

In that case, you’ll have to get in touch with other service providers who offer service in that area.

Change Your Service Plan

Different Google Fiber Service plans are available; you may either upgrade or downgrade depending on your usage.

If you want a cheaper plan and don’t need much high-speed internet at home, you may downgrade to a cheaper plan.

But if you have more people using Google Fiber and need more data and high-speed internet, try upgrading your plan.

With more people, you could always split the bill and will be able to grab a better deal.

To change your service plan, sign in to your Google Fiber account.

Go to the plan details section and from there select ‘Manage Plan’.

Choose ‘Change Plan’. You will have to select an appropriate plan for you from the different plans available in your area.

After that, click on ‘Continue.’

Proceed through the steps shown on the screen and select ‘Submit’ at the end.

Transfer Google Fiber Service to a Different Account

You can transfer your Google Fiber Service to another email address.

But always make sure there aren’t any dues, and all your account balances are paid in full before you transfer your account to another address.

Transferring your balance to another account is not possible unless you are both a current and new account holder and have lost access to your original email, but you still own both emails.

You can also transfer your Fiber service to a different account if you move to a new place.

But always make sure Google Fiber Services are available in your new location.

In that case, get in touch with the Google Fiber Customer Support Team and cancel your existing account before creating one at your new location.

Before contacting them, ensure that you have your email address and password associated with your Google account as well as your customer support pin.

If your new address already has a Google Fiber Account, that makes the whole process a lot easier.

All you have to do is contact the previous occupant and contact Google Fiber Customer Support Team to transfer their account to your email address.

If you cannot contact the previous occupant, then contact the support team yourself to cancel the previous account and create a new one for you.

Sign-In to Your Google Fiber Account

The first step is to log in to your google Fibre Account.

When you create an account, you will be provided with a user id and password.

If you can’t find these details, you may check the email sent to your registered email id by the Google Fiber team.

And if you can’t find it, you may call the customer support team to resend the email to you with all the credentials.

Go to Your Profile

Once you sign in to your account, you need to access your profile.

Go to the profile page of your account to find the cancel option.

Proceed with the following steps to complete the cancellation process.

Look for the Cancel Google Fiber Option

Beneath your profile, look for ‘cancel fiber service link’.

That is the option used for canceling your service.

Once you find that, press ‘cancel’.

Finish the Process

Once you press the cancel button, you will be asked to re-confirm again whether you want to proceed with the cancellation process.

A series of dialog boxes will appear, prompting the cancellation process; press continue on each of these dialog boxes.

The cancellation process is now complete.

Return the Equipment

After the cancellation process is complete, the next step is returning the equipment.

You can return the equipment by mail.

Before you return the equipment, you need to perform a factory reset of all your fiber devices.

You may use the existing packing material to return the equipment and to protect it from any damage.

In case you have multiple pieces of equipment, pack them all up in one big box.

You may return it using USPS or FedEx services. In either case, make sure you print the return label and attach it to the package.

If a fiber space is available near your location, you may return the equipment directly to them.

You have 60 days to return the equipment.

Alternate Cancellation Process

If you are experiencing some technical issues and cannot cancel online, you may contact the customer support team.

You may access the help center and choose the more convenient option for you to cancel the services.

You can contact customer support by phone, live chat, email, or other available options.

If you opt for live chat, you will have to enter your name, email and mention whether you’re still a Google Fiber customer before someone gets in touch with you.

Does Google Fiber Have an Early Cancellation Fee?

Google Fiber doesn’t have any early cancellation fees.

That is because when you cancel, the pending bill will go to the customer’s account and will get added to the remaining bill portion that you will have to pay at the end of the cycle.

Final Thoughts on Canceling Google Fiber

If you’re moving to a new location and they have Google Fiber Services available, you may either transfer your fiber services or cancel the current one and get a new one in your new location.

You will have to pay all outstanding fees if any when you cancel the fiber service.

You can opt for a free USPS package pickup if you’re returning through US Postal Services.

In the case of a FedEx return, when you bring a package to the FedEx location along with the email, they’ll print the return label for you.

Shipping costs with the provided label are free, but you will have to pay for any additional packages or services in case of FedEx delivery.

If you’re not able to return the equipment, you will have to pay a replacement fee.
