How to Connect Spotify to Hulu

Students can get Hulu free with Spotify Premium

What to Know

  • If you have an existing Hulu ad-supported plan, sign into your Spotify Premium for Students account.
  • Find Account page > Activate Hulu
  • If you attend a U.S. college or university, you may qualify for the deal granting access to Spotify, Hulu, and Showtime.

This article explains how to connect your existing Hulu account with Spotify Premium for Students. It also explains how to see if you qualify for the special deal, which applies to U.S. college or university students and gives access to Spotify, Hulu, and Showtime for $4.99 per month.

How to Switch Billing to Spotify

If you have an existing Hulu or Showtime account and an active Spotify Premium for Students account and want to take advantage of the Spotify Premium for Students offer, you’ll need to switch your billing to Spotify.

If you are new to Spotify and have an existing Hulu ad-supported plan (that has no additional services enabled or connected), you can simply approve the change during your Spotify Premium for Students sign up process.

If you already have accounts, you can make the change within Spotify.

  1. Sign in to Spotify with your Spotify Premium for Students account.

  2. Access your Account page and choose Activate Hulu (in the overview area).

  3. Confirm that you want to switch and then activate your Hulu and Spotify Premium for Students + Hulu accounts.

To switch billing from an existing Showtime plan, you will need to cancel your current Showtime subscription and wait for the billing period to end. Then, after the last subscription billing date passes, go to your Spotify subscription page to activate your Showtime subscription.

The Savings of Hulu With Spotify

Spotify Premium typically costs $9.99 per month, while Hulu and Showtime cost $5.99 and $10.99 per month, respectively. People who aren't students would pay $26.97 per month for all three accounts. Qualified students pay just $4.99 per month. That’s a savings of $21.98 per month or $263.76 per year.

Spotify Premium offers significant improvements over Spotify Free. Both give you access to audiobooks, podcasts, and millions of songs. However, Spotify Premium omits ads and lets you listen to content when your device lacks an internet connection, among other features.

But not every student will qualify, and even if you do, this offer may not give you access to the services you want. Here’s how to decide if this offer makes sense for you and how to sign up.

Make Sure You Qualify for Spotify Premium for Students

Spotify offers this discount only to students ages 18 or older in the United States who attend an accredited, Title IV college or university. Spotify uses a third-party service, SheerID, to verify that you are eligible during the signup process.

Go to the University Name field and type in the name of your school and press Enter. If your school is already in the system, a message that says, “The school you have selected is already in our list. Please return to Spotify with this school to complete your offer.” If your institution isn’t listed, complete and submit the form to request consideration by SheerID for access to the student discount.

You may only renew your Spotify Premium for Students three times. If you take more than four years to complete your degree or choose to continue with graduate studies, you’ll need to switch to a different plan.

Make Sure You Want the Hulu Plan Offered

Spotify Premium for Students only offers access to the Hulu ad-supported plan. It doesn’t include access to any of the Hulu plans with Live TV, or any of the Hulu no ads plans. In other words, if you already have a Hulu account with Live TV, no ads, or both, the Spotify Premium for Students offer won’t improve your access to Hulu content. If that’s the case, leave your Hulu account alone and don’t connect it to your Spotify Premium for Students account.
