My laptop doesn't have a numeric keypad, and typing Alt 0176 from the

I just highlight the character from a whole slug of them, hit copy and
then paste the character into the document. This is a MacBook Pro and
I'm still getting used to the key mappings.

In Word look into Symbols it is a menu area. In sending This

How to make a degree sign on the computer in Windows 10, 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7

ALT+0176 key combination for degrees works in many programs.
On a Desktop keyboard you have to use the numeric key pad for the numbers and for a laptop the "num lk" (fn + num lk) or (Number lock or Num Lock on right side small number keyboard of laptops) should be activated and use the keys ALT + 0176.

When you release the ALT key the symbol pops up. I did one just before

Need a new OS or need a new keyboard.

Are you running UNIX or LINUX .........Apple or Sun or ...... ?
Then all bets are off since this is software.

If you are running windows - then maybe a modern keyboard is needed.

search for character map in your start menu.

find the degree symbol in the character map.

copy it from the character map and paste it into your document.
worked for me. i had same issue.

It might simply be the font you are using that doesn't have it.

Try doing that in WORD.exe - there is a menu for symbols and you are in
like flint.

If you are using google docs you can type a lowercase "o" and then put it into superscript. You can also search up the degree symbol and then copy-paste it into your document.

Worked for me - must keep Alt pressed and use a keypad.
The keypad might have been in symbol not number lock. That is often the
case when booting and not pressing the "num Lk" key.

For those using Chrome: Press Ctrl+Shift+U in any input field on Chromebook, you’ll get a little underlined “u” on your screen. Type 00BA and press Enterto get the degree symbol º. “00BA” (not case sensitive) is the unicode for the degree special character on Chromebook.

Thank you!!! It works. However, I discovered that if you try to use the Number keys that reside above the letters on the keyboard, it doesn't work. You have to use the keys on the Number Pad in order for this shortcut to work. At least for me that was the case...
Anyone else find it was the same for them?

Yes, that's normal. The hardware codes for the little number pad area
are not the same as the "main" area.
