Windows 10: Can't sign in into a gmail account on Windows Live Mail

HiAll of a sudden I can't sign in to one of my gmail accounts in Windows Live Mail. The password is saved so I don't need to enter it but I am getting the message 'The Server has rejected your login' due to non-network error and the suggestion it was because I was running low on memory. However, I have about 7 GB free RAM at the moment according to the Windows Task Manager. I tried to re-enter the password but it's still not accepted. I am able to login to this gmail account in the browser using the same credentials but not through the Live Mail. My other gmail accounts are working fine in L

If you are using a Gmail account with Windows Live Mail, you must create a new password, on the Gmail website, because Gmail has recently updated its security procedure.

Be aware that the following procedure is what someone who has a Gmail account told to me, I can't be sure it doesn't contain errors. Use your common sense.

What you are trying to do is sign in to your Gmail account on their website, and there change the password that you use in Windows Live Mail. Gmail demands that you have two passwords, your existing one (used to sign-in on their website) *and* a new one (used
to sign-in in Windows Live Mail).

Gmail demands that from now on you must use what it calls an "app password" to sign-in in Windows Live Mail. It thinks Windows Live Mail is an "app"! Once created, you type the
2nd password into Windows Live Mail
instead of your original password.

You allegedly have to do the following -

1. Login to your Gmail account on their website.

2. Go to your google account.

3. Go to security.

4. Sign into google.

5. Go to "app password".

6. Then it will ask your account password. Type in the password.

7. Specify the application in which you will be using Gmail, which will be "Windows Live Mail" (but Gmail might know it as "Windows Essentials" or "Windows Live Essentials").

8. Specify your Operating System (e.g. Windows 10).

9. Then generate the password (which will only work in Windows Live Mail).

Potential Solutions

Based on some quick research there may be two options that may help resolve this. . .

1. Enable the 2-Step Verification functionality and security feature with your Gmail account and then use the 2-Step Verification to verify and trust the Windows Mail app to have access to your Gmail account
   
2. Enable and use the Less Secure Apps functionality by turning that ON and using your usual Gmail account password with the Windows Mail app to authenticate

We understand the concern as you are trying to add Yahoo/Gmail email account in Mail app.
In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

• What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 currently installed? (Type
  winver in Windows search/Run command)
  
• What is the Version of Mail app installed?
  
• Do you have any non-Microsoft Antivirus/security program installed?
  
• Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?
  

Meanwhile, we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if that helps.



Steps to add Yahoo email in Mail app.

1. In yahoo mails account security, click on manage app passwords.
   
2. After selecting other app and entering the new app name in the text box
   
3. Now, in Windows 10 mail app, add this type of account.
   
4. In Windows 10 mail app, enter your details and the password generated by step 2

Steps to add Gmail email in Mail app

Step 1: Connect your Google account to PC

1. Go to the Security section of your Google account
   
2. Under Connected
   apps and sites, go to Apps
   connected to your account
   
3. Make sure that Windows is on the list

Step 2: Enable IMAP on your Google account

1. Sign in to Gmail
   
2. Click the gear in the top right
   
3. Select Settings
   
4. Click Forwarding
   and POP/IMAP
   
5. Select Enable IMAP
   
6. Click Save Changes

Step 3: Add Gmail account.

1. Open Mail app.
   
2. Click on the gear icon to open settings.
   
3. Click on Manage account.
   
4. Click on Add account.
   
5. Now select Google and check if you are able to add the account.
