is asiarooms. com bookings reliable?

how reliable are bookings done through asiarooms.com? i have never tried online booking before since i normally do it through my travel agent. however,my travel agent doesnt carry meritus mandarin. i'm afraid that when i arrive at singapore, i would find out i have no confirmed reservations at the said hotel. any comments from you guys who tried asiarooms? I'd appreciate your feedback! thanks!

I have used asiarooms.com a number of times (probably around 10 times) - and have never had any problems with them at all - you do get a confirmation e-mail a day or so after booking, print the e-mail and bring it along.

I haven't used it myself but I received a lot of good feedback from fellow VTers/travelers. Asiarooms usually offers some pretty good rates and, after what I have heard, I really wouldn't worry to make a reservation.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,
Robert

Hi,
I used asia-hotels.com and found them great. Very prompt responses, booked hotels in Cambodia, Siem Reap & Phnom Penh, also Ho-Chi Minh.
Good luck on your travels.

There have certainly been a lot of discussion about Asiarooms.com on VT and I think the general consensus is that it is pretty good. This is a link to other discussions on the forum if you need more information:

I second all the opinions about AsiaRooms.com here. Friends and family and of course myself have used it to book hotels in the region (including Singapore) and we all have absolutely no problems with it. Generally good rates and reasonable response time.

Just my 2 cents.... :-)

I used them last year to book hotels in Bali, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and no problems. Infact when you make your booking, you can leave you mobile number and they can text you whether the reservation is confirmed or not. Next month, I will be heading to Hong Kong and Bangkok and booked my rooms through them.

After you make your initial request for a room, they will e-mail you to tell you that your booking is in progress. When the reservation is confirmed, they will e-mail you a voucher and present that to the hotel.

thank you for all your comments. i made my booking last night and they already texted me that the hotel room i wanted was full but they found an available room in a higher category. since the difference was just 20 dollars per person, i really dont mind. i must say, i am very impressed with the service and hopefully, i will get my confirmation in a few hours.thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply, i really appreciate this!

I've used Asiarooms for the last couple of years for bookings in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. They're very very good.

Only minor problem I had was trying to get a refund when I'd booked for Thailand and had to cancel due to the Tsunami. It took about 4 months and a few e-mails before I got the money back.

Hasn't stopped me from continuing to use them though.

Make sure you have a print out of your booking when you check into the hotel.

whats about this ?
Asiarooms dot com, Liars ...

Not sure, but since 3 years ago, I already formed the opinion that TravelForum.org has an agenda against AsiaRooms.com, perhaps due to the fact that their sponsor is a competitor of AsiaRooms.com. Of course, nobody can guarantee that any agent's service is consistently good, but at least of the more than 10 times I have dealt with them, it has been great.

Anyway, just to be clear, I am not affiliated in AsiaRooms.com in any way. Just a satisfied customer. Other's mileage may differ obviously.

Just my 2 cents.... :-)

Not exactly sure who you are calling "liars" Timy99!! Us who responded to the original query or Asiarooms. But as DarkRay says all we can do is offer our personal experiences and opinions (in this case mostly positive I think), and it is up to you to decide whether this feedback is reassuring enough - you can't expect us to guarantee that Asiarooms' service will be great 100% of the time.

I don't think that Timmy is calling us liars. The title of the post that Timmy placed a link on has a Liars as the title. I believe that he is merely copying the title.

In any event, I would reiterate that I have used Asiarooms.com many times. They are efficient and the prices are very good. To minimize any misunderstandings or confusion, once I have made a booking with Asiarooms, I e-mail the hotel a couple of days prior to my arrival to confirm the booking. If the booking is not confirmed by the hotel, I immediately call the credit card company and notify them that I am in dispute of a charge. Furthermmore, after arriving from any trip abroad, I periodically check my credit card accounts on-line to make sure that there are no additional charges from anywhere.

Hi Joel,

Thanks for your correction. Indeed I didn't read the actual title of the posting in the link!! That makes sense. Apologies also to Timy99 for being so rude to you.

hi everyone!

i just got back from my trip in singapore and thank you to everyone who reassured me about asiarooms bookings. i didn't have any problems at all when i checked in, everything went smoothly. in fact, i met a lot of people in various tours who wondered how i was able to get a room in a great hotel when their own travel agents couldn't get them a room in meritus mandarin since it was supposedly fully booked! ( i don't know if it had something to do with the deepavali celebration or something...hope i got that right). anyway, i noticed while i was gone, there were posts about asarooms and the supposedly negative feedback about this site. well,i'm not associated with them either and let me just say i am delighted with the handling of my booking and i know i will trust them again with future bookings. again, thank you all for the tips!

No need to worry. It is reliable. I made a booking as early as the 1st week of december 2005 for an overnight stay in a macau hotel on 19 January 2006. When me, my mom and kids arrived on the night of 19 January our reservation was very well in order. Just a tip: Make a reservation at least a week in advance so that you would have time to make changes just in case the room you wanna reserve is not available.

I find that AsiaRooms indeed have very good rates as well as availability, but I would like to tke this opportunity to post a warning and make fellow traveller/online bookers very aware.

I live in the UK had booked two different hotels in two very different destinations (I was going to stary at Hotel de la Paix in Siem Reap, Cambodia and then later stay at New World Renaissance in KL, Malaysia). I had also considered the USD 15 cancellation fee (7 day notice).

When I informed Asia Rooms of my intention to cancel my booking for the first hotel the very next day (my reason being that I had found a local Cambodian agency - Mittapheap - with much better rates) Asia Rooms immediately went ahead and charged my credit card for the whole amount (468 USD = 275 GBP) and then took about 15 days to credit my account with the amount minus 15 USD (453 USD = 251GBP). As currency exchange rates vary on debit and credit amounts since it equates to buying and selling currency, this actually cost me a lot more than 15 USD. The difference was actually 24 GBP (45 USD), a whole lot more than 15 USD.

Strangely enough, my credit card was not charged for the other hotel (the one I still wanted and did stay) at until much much later, even though I booked it so much earlier.

I never got a valid explanation as to why they did not charge my account for both hotels and so I suspect that my credit card was only charged for the hotel I cancelled to take advantage of the difference in currency exchange rates. Oh well, my loss- their gain.

Personally, I would be very very wary of using AsiaRooms again.

Hi, I just want to say that while I do not know the exact reason why Asiarooms would charge your credit card first for that specific room, my guess is that they have done so because the hotel has confirmed its availability while the other have not. Your cancellation could be handled by another department and so that can account for the delay.

Currency wise, I handle finance matters for the retail company I work with and so can offer some insight to this. Do note that Asiarooms only deal specifically with USD and any exchange diferrence between GBP (and any other currency for that matter) and USD lost actually goes to your credit card issuing bank and not Asiarooms. On their side, all they know is that they have debit US$X from your credit card and credit US$X back to you on a later date. You have incurred losses because your bank sells you USD at a higher rate (known as USD selling rate) the first time round and then buys USD back from from you at the lower buying rate (known as USD buying rate).

Anyway, I always wish to clarify that I have no dealings with Asiarooms and is just offering the above as my opinion.

Just my 2 cents.... :-)

I have had nothing but frustration with Asiarooms.com due to a cancellation. I found them fine for reservations which needed no adjustments, but they have lied continually to me in regards to the cancellation. I cancelled more than 7 days in advance after carefully reading their cancellation policy, and was fine with paying the15 cancellation charge. However, their email said that the charge would be260 instead! I have spent more than 2 weeks emailing back and forth with them (14 emails) and calling them, and they just continually say that they need to hear back from the hotel. Over a week ago I emailed the hotel myself, and received a prompt response saying there was no charge. I even forwarded this to Asiarooms! They still say that they need to hear back, that the hotel is not responding. I have been forced to dispute the charges due to their behavior.

DO NOT USE THEM!

No offence to anybody, but I personally find it very curious that so far, all the negative postings about Asiarooms.com are posted from accounts which had been created on the day of postings. And from these accounts, there are no other activities except the posting of anti-Asiarooms.com messages.

Exercise your own judgements.... :-)

I recently tried to book rooms with Asiarooms in Ho Chi Minh City. I tried for days before my travel date (13th August 2007) to book 2 rooms but everything I tried was unavailable. Finally, the afternoon before I was due to fly, not having heard from them, I called a hotel in HCMC and managed to get a hotel that Asiarooms claimed is full. I realised 5 days later (while travelling in Vietnam) that Asiarooms had sent me an email to confirm a room at 12 pm of the day I was due to arrive in HCMC. I was at that time already on my flight to Vietnam. I had no idea they do confirmation on the day itself and they went ahead to deduct money from my credit card, without my reply or my consent. They have not refunded so far and I've written to them 2 emails, called their office in Bangkok but to no avail. I think it is truly a dodgy site. Also, the one room I was able to get in Hanoi, the photos did not match the hotel and I ended up paying quite a lot for a horribly shabby hotel. I think they have people write fake reviews. I wrote a review on the hotel itself and that was never reflected.

General thing about using any online booking websites is that, do not use it for last minute booking as confirmation can take up to 3 working days. It's always great to plan our travelling in advance.

For AsiaRooms.com (and any other online booking websites for the matter), if you had already made alternate plans, you should always log in and cancel the request order, as they could be trying to find the room till the check-in date.

Regarding the look of the room, all photos used by online booking websites and travel agents are supplied by the hotel itself. Reviews wise, AsiaRooms.com does censor their reviews, but only for language profanity, and it will take a long while before they get posted. There some very unflattering reviews abuot hotels being posted.

Just my 2 cents.... :-)

yes asiarooms.com bookings are reliable.. i haven't expereinced any problem with my bookings from them for hotels in macau, hongkong, singapore, thailand and philippines

the downside for the booking though is that the deposit is already earmarked from your credit card and they can't give you instant confirmation...so your credit card's purchasing power is necessarily decreased...when the hotel is fully booked and this feedback is given on a weekend, the creditcard earmarked amount will be returned on the next working day i think within 48 hours.
