Michal Rutkowski is the Global Director for Social Protection and Jobs. He oversees the World Bank's operations in developing systems that protect the most vulnerable and poorest from crises and shocks by supporting private-sector growth. 

Prior to his appointment, he was the Director of Multilateral Organizations, the Country Director for the Russian Federation and the Resident Representative in Moscow for three years until mid-2016. 

In 1990, Mr Rutkowski joined the World Bank. Between 1995-96, he worked as a country economist for the Russian Federation. 

Between 1998-2004, he oversaw reforms in 28 countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, as well as in Turkey as the Sector Manager for social protection. His team worked on reforms in pensions, labour market and social assistance. 

Before his journey at the World Bank began, he played a significant role in designing the Polish pension system while serving as the Director of the Office for Social Security Reform. He also has an academic stint and taught at the Institute of Economic Policy at the Warsaw School of Economics. 

Mr. Rutkowski himself holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D from Warsaw School of Economics. He went on to receive his post-graduate degree from the London School of Economics. At Harvard Business School, he graduated from the Executive Development program in 1999. He also received the Leadership for Collective Intelligence program run by Dialogos in 2010. 

At the RAISE:2020, Mr. Rutkowski will be joining a panel as the keynote speaker to discuss the changes in ways of working that the AI revolution has brought about in the lives of individuals. He will lead the conversation to explore ways in which skill development for an AI-driven work environment can be leveraged by organizations.
