Well, I went to see Mockingjay part 2 a few days ago and I was excited to see more sign language used in the film! Yes, there were only two proper scenes of it, (SPOILER ALERT) especially after Castor died, he could only use signals instead of being able to properly sign because no one else signed.

If you were wondering, Pollux used ASL (American Sign Language) with his brother Castor throughout the film.

I sign a bit and I wanted to translate the scenes he signed in, if anyone was interested.

The first scene he used sign was when they had to stop for the night in the sewers, they were just getting in and he stopped to sign to his brother what looked like to me

“Beautiful home”

I think that it was a joke, referring to how he spent so much time in the sewers while he was working for the Capitol. He was smiling when he said it, so I inferred that it was a joke, like “wow such a beautiful home I had” (since obviously the sewer system isn’t beautiful.

The second time he used sign was in Tigress’s shop right before Katniss and Gale left to go to Snow’s place while the Peacekeepers evacuated the streets. Katniss started to talk, and he cut her off, signing

“No words, never - “

And naturally, they switch camera positions before he finishes his sentence, and then pulls Katniss in for a hug.

To give a little bit more there, he signs “no” several times, just several quick motions, probably to get the idea across to Katniss, since she obviously doesn’t sign. The sign for “no” kind of looks like when someone is telling someone to shut their mouth, miming a mouth with your hand and closing it, except it’s only done with two fingers (its a mashed-spell sign, where they combine the letter n with the letter o to create the sign, although this one is VERY mashed and almost entirely loses both letters with its evolution).
