So long story short I wanted to install new themes on my windows. Some themes require to install " UltraUX theme patcher 3.6" and others require "UltraUX Theme Patcher 3.6" and others require "UXStyle 0.2.4.2". So I just installed them all so that I can install to any theme I like. I downloaded a theme from Deviant-Art and it had a txt file, step by step guide, I found this guide online here : https://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/showthread.php?137586-Windows-7-theme here are the steps mentioned :

1. First step is installing the fonts. Right click on the selected fonts and choose install.
__________________________________________________ __________

2. Now you need a patched system, that means you have to patch your system files.
There is a nice tool available that helps you with the work:
UniversialUxthemePatcher [get it here: http://deepxw.blogspot.com/2008/11/u...e-patcher.html ]
__________________________________________________ __________

3. The next step is the copying of the theme. Go into your just downloaded Green Spirit v2 folder and open the
theme folder. You should see 4 items: 'Dynamic Black/AT' folder AND 'Dynamic Black/AT.theme' file
Copy these items to C:\windows\resources\themes
__________________________________________________ __________

4. Well at the moment you can select the visual style, but you are not having all its graphics. (Back/forward buttons, start orb..)
To add these graphics switch to the folder system files. You'll see the RTM files inside the folder. So use the right file
that fits to your system. First you have to take ownership of the original files.
[windows folder: explorer.exe; system32 folder: shell32.dll/explorerframe.dll]
If you are unsure how to do it, read this tutorial:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/0...windows-vista/
Then you should rename the original files to something different: e.g. explorer.exe to explorer.exe.BAK
Now you are able to copy the modified system files in the respective folder.
But be sure to make a backup before replacing the system files.

Big Taskbar = includes explorer.exe if you prefere the big taskbar of windows

I dont know where I went wrong, maybe installing three different patches is a mistake? Can someone with experience regarding themes shed light on this?  I need to know exactly, so I can tackle that problem accordingly.

Now I cant login, But I can access CMD as a troubleshooting option.

Im in serious need of expert help... Thank you for your time.

This error usually indicates your user profile was corrupted. When you got this error did Windows open a temporary profile?

If you have a restore point just before your changes you could do a System Restore. That would be the first thing I would try.

If System Restore doesn't work you can attempt to fix the corrupted profile using the below guide. If that does not work you will need to create a new user profile and copy your data to it.

Scroll down to Windows 8.1

https://neosmart.net/wiki/corrupt-user-profile/

Patching Windows with these tweaks always has a chance of going south and that is why I don't recommend it.

I checked  this guide, and I also discovered this one https://www.techbout.com/fix-corrupt-user-profile-windows-10-9139/  . I checked to see if there are any restore points but there are none. I think System Restore was just disabled by default

Open Windows 8.1 in Safe Mode with Command Prompt. At the login screen press shift and the restart button.

Method #1

https://www.digitalcitizen.life/5-ways-boot-safe-mode-windows-8-windows-81

Create a new account using the command prompt. This is for Windows 7 but the commands are the same for Windows 8.1. Substitute your preferred name (different from the current one) for removevirus in the guide.

https://blog.pcrisk.com/general-information/7019-how-to-create-a-new-user-account-using-command-prompt

Enabling the Administrator Account will also work. Login to the Administrator Account and create a new user profile

In Command Prompt type this command: net user administrator /active:yes

Press Enter and Restart the computer.

If the above does not work then we can attempt to do enable the administrator account offline with a bootable disk.

yes the first thing I tried is the  net user administrator /active:yes      trick. this did not create any account for me, so I think my windows is very messed up, not only that, it wouldnt boot in safe mode. but I was able to access CMD from the toubleshooting options.

..Im still in the process of following the first guide, will let you know how things turned out.

in the profilelist folder in regedit  there is only three folders

s-1-5-18

s-1-5-19

s-1-5-20

none of which have C:\Users\MY_USERNAME in the ProfileImagePath value

So I thought ok ill create a new user account from CMD with "net user username /add

and heres the error msg I get:

The user or group account specified cannot be found.

The user was successfully created but could not be added to the USERS local group.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3774.

So I typed NET HELPMSG 3774      AND IT GAVE ME:

The user was successfully created but could not be added to the USERS local group.

as i said, i need professional help.

Actually I was thinking, since these patches modified system files, why not take the harder method and re-modify them to what it was originally.

I think that's the only option you have at this point other than trying to add the hidden Administrator Offline using a boot disk.

OK, Im going to attempt to do this boot disk thing, but I have 2 questions:

1-There's Microsoft's Recovery Essentials boot disk and there's Hiren's boot cd. Whats the difference?

2- I have only one 16gb flash drive that has plenty of files on it. Can I make a 2gb partition inside it that I can boot the image from.. while still having my files on it?

    If so, how?

That is not the disk I was suggesting. Download Lazesoft Recovery Suite Home Free. Install it on another computer and run the program. Create the bootable DVD or USB. It will ask for the target system OS in a dropdown box. Select Windows 8.1. The download is from Cnet but it's clean. If you don't want to download from cnet then this is the direct download.

Boot the DVD or USB in your problem computer. Enable the Administrator Account. The guide shows resetting the Administrator Password. By unblocking it you are enabling the hidden account.

I think I have to face my ultimate fear and that is to reinstall windows. I have important huge files on my disk that i have to backup before reinstalling windows and the built in hp recovery boot option was painfully slow, Lazesoft's was also very slow and gave me errors. so i want a very light and fast bootable file manager and there are so many to choose from and i want the ideal choice, Puppy Linux? this has different versions too. Knoppix? this also has different versions. help somebody..

I missed your post #10, sorry.

Yes, you could use Puppy linux.  You will need to disable SecureBoot in your UEFI setting if it is enabled. Copying files in Puppy is a little different. You need to have two windows open, one for your computer and the other for the USB external drive so you can copy and drag between Windows. You can left drag a window around the files you want to copy or press the Ctrl key and left click to select one file or folder at a time.

https://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=61065

Another distro that be better suited to your needs is Mint Cinnamon. Boot to the desktop and click on Computer. Your hard drive is in the left pane. Click on it to mount your computer hard drive. Attach a USB external drive. A USB icon will appear on the desktop and a File Manager will open. You can copy and paste between the two windows. All your personal data should be in the Users directory. Remember to also copy your browser bookmarks and email if you do not use web mail.

https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3786

FYI, this may be a hard drive problem so concentrate on recovering your most important files first.

Profile corruption even on the Administrator Account is bad. You can reinstall after recovering your data but you can also use the  following commands first to see if it fixes the problem.

sfc /scannow

and the DISM command.

I'm not too familiar with Tharpup but I believe you should be able to right click the folder and select properties. There is also a details list that should give the size. It's one of the icons that looks like a text file in the menu bar.

puppy09.jpg

Puppy may see the driverstore as a system folder. I'm not sure. But I don't think you need to copy that, especially after creating a clean install. I would download the required drivers from your computer's support site.
