Getting TV Provider "Sign In Error" for Cox cable login after Cox required two factor authentication

I changed my password and enabled two factor authentication for Cox. Then, I got an error on my apple devices (phone, ipad, and apple tv):

An error occured while attempting to load details. The TV Provider is no longer available. Sign Out

I click sign out and when I try to sign back in, I get "Sign In Error"

This happens on all apple devices. I tried to log into hbo max and also got the sign in error. However, hbo max displayed a link and activation code. I went to the link on my computer, put in the activation code, got redirected to the cox site, logged in with 2FA, and now hbo max is working.

It appears to be a problem with Apple. I'm never prompted for 2FA for cox. The login just fails.

I have having issues for the longest time until I turned off two-step verification on my Cox.com account.

  • Sign into your Cox.com account.
  • From My Account drop down menu, scroll to My Profile.
  • From the My Profile, scroll over to Password & security.
  • Under Password & security, click Two-step verification.
  • From the Two-step verification window, click Turn off.

Unfortunately Two-step has to remain off in order to avoid the Sign In Error pop up. Hope this helps.

Hello Speazy5,

We see that you're having trouble logging in to your Cox account after changing the security for the account.

As this happened directly after making a change to the Cox account, this would indicate an issue authenticating the account. For that you'll want to reach out to Cox directly. They should be able to provide you with some guidance for this issue.

Take care!

I would agree it has to do with Apple and the cox two factor authentication. I cannot even use cox as the tv provider thru the setting or even through some of the tv apps. However on a Roku or fire stick I can get them to work. It’s only on my apple devices that it will not take me to the two factor authentication screen for cox. I just get we are experiencing difficulties. Please try again later. How do we escalate this to apple to fix somehow.

Hi All,

Yes, this is the error I receive on my phone. Thanks to some other forums, I have found a work around for my apple tv though.

For Apple TV, go to settings > accounts > tv provider and set the app in question to Off. This way it will not try to use single sign on to login with your tv provider account. Then, go to the app in question, and try to access the broadcast, select to sign in with your tv provider, and it will give you an activation site and code. Finally, I use my computer to authenticate with my Cox account and MFA. I've successfully used this method for Starz, HBO Max, NBC, and ABC. Hopefully, Apple will get this fixed soon, but until then, try the workaround.
