Blackboard Learn is the University’s learning management system. Faculty use BBL to deliver course material, assignments, and readings. Course shells are made available to students the week before classes begin.

Learn more about Drexel’s Computer Buying Guide

It is recommended that students purchase a computer for personal use as recommended by IT’s computer buying guide. Please note that the Dornsife School of Public Health requires Microsoft Windows for applications that are not available for Apple computers. If you purchase a Mac, you must partition your hard drive with Bootcamp, Parallels, or VMWare and then install Windows before arriving on campus. Check with your department for specific requirements before you purchase.

Additionally, Drexel IT does not recommend the usage of Chromebooks for coursework at Drexel. Chromebooks are not compatible with some services at Drexel and some necessary applications for coursework.

Apple products and Dell products can be purchased from the “Campus Community” tab on Drexel One.

Drexel Email Account

Drexel email is serviced through Office 365 and is available to all Drexel students, faculty, and professional staff. All University communications will be shared to your Drexel email account. It is important that you check your Drexel email account daily to receive communications regarding coursework and other campus announcements.

Please note that students are required to use their Drexel email to conduct official University business. Although students are permitted to set up email forwarding, communications between faculty/staff and students must be conducted through your official Drexel email account.

DrexelOne

The DrexelOne Portal is a one-stop shop for accessing personal, academic, financial, and career information. Access to other services requiring sign-in, such as the University Libraries, commuter links, DragonCard funds, and vendor discounted software also are provided within DrexelOne. This system is used by all members of the Drexel community. Students can expect to use DrexelOne to register for classes, view class schedules and grades, edit personal information, update emergency contacts, and more.

Each cohort has a group, or shell, titled “DSPH Students [YEAR]”. This shell will provide you with important information to the student experience, such as:

• Student handbook
• Announcements
• Orientation Schedule
• Events
• Commencement information

Be sure to check this tab often for updated information or turn on notifications so you find out about important dates, deadlines and other announcements.

Information Technology

Information Technology provides university-wide instructional, administrative, and research services using its robust computing and communications infrastructure. IT provides support for accounts, computers and software, network, email, video, and more! Nesbitt Hall has a computer lab exclusively for Public Health students where limited printing is available.

Microsoft Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 is the latest computer, mobile, and Web-enabled suite of Office apps, email, OneDrive, and related services. Office 365 apps are also integrated with other Microsoft cloud services (e.g. SharePoint and OneDrive). Office 365 email and apps are available to all Drexel matriculated students.

Learn more about Multi-Factor Authentication

If your device has a recent version of Office, including Outlook apps, Office 365, Outlook 2016 for Windows, and Office 2019 for Mac, as well as the most recent version of macOS (called Mojave) it includes a version of Apple Mail that is ready for MFA.

The first time that any of these email apps accesses your mailbox, your phone will receive a push notification, a text message containing a code, or a call. Sign-in approvals are automatically remembered by the apps for about 60 days.

Software List

Drexel IT provides a master list of software supported by Drexel IT and Drexel Departments. This includes software like EndNote, NVivo, SAS, and SPSS, and many of which are available to students at no additional cost.

To download software and licenses, use your Drexel username and password to log in to software.drexel.edu/students/.

Statistical and Visualization Program Resources

If you would like to expand or gain new programming and data analysis skills, create interactive graphs, and generate maps check out this resource guide.

This includes instructions and links to access free software (with the exception of STATA) and training through Drexel. Additionally, free training, textbook, and cheat sheet guides at basic, intermediate, and sometimes advanced levels are below descriptions for each software.

Zoom

Drexel provides a University-wide license for Zoom, the online meeting and video-conferencing service with built-in collaboration tools and team chat. In addition to HD video, Zoom offers telephone-only and reservations-less conferencing. The Zoom meeting service is available to students, faculty, and professional staff.
