Default micro sign in micromolar?

I need to make the micro sign for the unit micromolar. Its just a "u" with an
extention on the bottom front of the letter.

What you're referring to is the Greek letter mu. Find it at 03BC in Insert |
Symbol. If you use it often, you may want to assign a keyboard shortcut.

It appears to be in ordinary fonts at Alt 0181 (by itself it stands
for "micron" and is used for "micro-" throughout the metric system).
If you switch to Symbol font, Word won't recognize it if you change
fonts.

Ah, indeed, U00B5 is identified as "micro sign." Not that it really
significantly differs from mu.
