BJP website back online after over two weeks
The official website of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) --bjp.org -- is back online after being offline for over two weeks. The website went down on March 5.
There have been conflicting versions from the ruling party on the issue. Amit Malviya, the IT Cell head of BJP, said that the website wasn’t hacked but there was a “technical glitch” that resulted in the website going offline.
However, IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad did admit that the website was indeed hacked. Prasad said that the site was hacked for a few minutes but the party was able to get control back “very soon.” He also said that there are rogue elements in the society who were behind such attacks.
As of now it’s not known who was behind the attack but as per a few social media posts, before the website was taken offline, there were some memes around Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German chancellor Angela Merkel. It’s also not known for how long those memes were up on the website before the site went offline. During the downtime, the website was first showing “error 522” message.
Later, the "error 522" message was replaced with the following text, "We'll be back soon! Sorry for the inconvenience but we’re performing some maintenance at the moment. we’ll be back online shortly! — Web Admin.
