Chelsea: 5 Big-Name January Signings That Would Make the Blues Unstoppable

Chelsea FC has had a storming start to the season. The Blues are undefeated in the English Premier League after five games. They sit top of the table, having only conceded two goals in EPL competition.

Add to that an emphatic 6-0 victory over Wolves in the League Cup, and you may wonder if Chelsea needs any additions at all in the January transfer window.

However, no squad is perfect, and anyone who has watched Chelsea play this season could tell you that this squad is no exception.

If Chelsea is to survive deep into the tail end of the season, the club will need to be active players in the January window. They will need to add at least one striker, a defensive midfield player and probably at least one defender.

With that in mind, here are five players that could be valuable additions to this already-strong Chelsea setup.

The Real Madrid defender is already being linked with a move to Chelsea, as he is said to be unhappy at the Bernabeu.

Although a defender will not be Roberto Di Matteo's main priority, Ramos would be a great addition to the side.

The month of December is notorious for wreaking havoc on Premier League squads, as the packed schedule increases the number of injuries. Ramos' ability to play both right-back and center-back would provide much-needed cover in both positions.

I say "cover," but a player of Sergio Ramos' class would be much more likely to oust one of the current defenders and claim his own place in the starting lineup.

If Chelsea wants to pry the Spaniard away from Madrid in January however, the club will have to be prepared to spend record amounts for a defender. Having signed an extension last year, his current contract runs until 2017.

Chelsea's lack of striking options has so far been covered up by a dazzling midfield and goals from all over the pitch this season. But there is an increasing awareness that, if Fernando Torres is not performing, there is little else left for Di Matteo to call upon.

Chelsea players were unfortunate enough to experience Falcao up close this season, when he tore them to shreds in Atletico Madrid's victory over the Blues in the European Super Cup.

The Colombian's quality finishing and surprising aerial abilities (given his height) have made him the hottest striker in Europe this fall.

Roman Abramovich and Chelsea will have to get in line to sign him, but the prospect of adding this star to the Chelsea strike force is a mouthwatering one.

The chances are that, should Neymar be coaxed away from Santos, his most likely destination will be Spain. However, if Chelsea are able to pull him towards Stamford Bridge, they most certainly will, whatever the price.

Still just 20 years old, Neymar is often named as one of the best young forwards in the world.

The Brazilian adds an extra dimension to any team, and with Chelsea he could hook up with Eden Hazard and Brazil teammate Oscar in a formidable attacking lineup.

The Portuguese midfielder has been linked with Chelsea on and off for the past few years. Andre Villas-Boas' exit marked the end of the club's main connection to Portugal, and with it the speculation linking Chelsea to Moutinho.

However, Chelsea needs more cover for its defense, so a player with good holding capabilities like Moutinho would be a great option.

This would ease pressure on less disciplined players such as Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel, who are currently filling that role.

Manchester United's overabundance of forwards is almost as great as Chelsea's is small.

So why not offload one?

Daniel Sturridge's place at Chelsea after January is far from secure, so the Blues may be looking for a replacement in the form of Hernandez.

The Mexican hasn't played much for United this season, so a move to Chelsea could be beneficial to both player and club.
