Mobile Security Key (iOS)

To implement mobile security, you should use an iOS MDM protocol. Your MDM service provider should implement Apple MDM API and support the Push App Configuration feature. Here, we use the IBM Maas360 service as an example:

Create an MDM account

  1. Open the IBM MaaS360 login page or your chosen MDM service, and follow the instructions to create an account.

Add Devices

  1. Open the IBM MaaS360 page and click Devices, then Add Device.
  2. In the Add Device dialog box that appears, enter the device information and then click Send Request. Repeat this process for each project member's device you want to add.
  3. Your project member will receive an invitation to enroll their device.

Add the BIM 360 Mobile App

  1. Open the IBM MaaS360 page and click Apps.
  2. Click the Add drop-down list iOS iTunes App Store App.
  3. On the App Details tab, type BIM 360.
  4. Complete the other fields and click Add.

Add a Security Key to the BIM 360 App

  1. Open the IBM Maas360 page and click Apps.
  2. Select the checkbox next to the BIM 360 mobile app and click View.
  3. On the top bar, click More, and then click Edit App Configuration Parameters.
  4. Click the App Config Source drop-down list, and select Input Type and choose Key/Value.
  5. Type the attribute name BIM360Docs_MDM_key, then an attribute value, which will form the key syntax you want to use for this app.
  6. Click Add.

Enable a Security Key in BIM 360 Web

  1. Click Project Admin.

  2. Click Services.

  3. In the left panel, click Document Management.

  4. Click Advanced Settings.

  5. Select Use Mobile Security Key and type the attribute value used on your MDM system.

Distribute the BIM 360 Mobile App

  1. Open the IBM Maas360 page and click Apps.
  2. Select the checkbox next to the BIM 360 mobile app and click Distribute.
  3. In the Distribute App dialog box, select the devices you want to share the app with.
  4. Choose whether to notify users or instantly install the app, and then click Distribute.

Install and Open the BIM 360 Mobile App on a Device

  1. On your iPad or iPhone, open the App Catalog.

  2. Open the BIM 360 mobile app and click Install. Once installed, the app appears on the iPad or iPhone home screen.

  3. Sign into the app.

    BIM 360 mobile will automatically fetch the key and validate it. If the key matches, your project will open in the app. If the key does not match, you cannot access project information.
