Went to the aib in bishopstown cork to pay my final payment and cancel my credit card. I was met by a extremely rude and very unhelpful women. She barley let me talk and directed me to a phone. I didn't have a clue what to do so I just left.
Absolutely no help, I understand if people are unhappy in there lives but it's important to stay professional at work.
Definitely changing banks soon.

Shocking incompetence

Closed my credit card few months ago. Government stamp duty is €30. I have tried to pay off the stamp duty multiple times by visiting a Branch, calling card services at least 4 times. First time I was told that they took a payment from me although they hadn't asked me to provide my debit card details which I was holding in my hand for 20 minutes. When I asked the doubtfully how exactly the monies were paid they assured me it was paid. Next day I called card services and I was on hold for 55 minutes and I was told that the payment is OUTSTANDING and I can pay it now over the phone. They tried to transfer me to an agent and I was on hold fo about 15 minutes. Then I was told that the agents system crashed which is codeword for they have no clue what they are doing as systems don't just crash so easily. Then I got through to the agent and explained what I wanted to do, Without a warning I was placed on hold for 30 minutes. At last the agent was back and she told me that she needed to pull up my account. I told her that I have no confidence that she know what she is doing as it took her half an hour to pull up my account. By the way I have a mortgage with them as well. I told the lady that I wanted to speak to a manager. I was on hold again. When she came back she said that the manager was not available but I will receive a call later that day. That has never happened I doubt she spoke to a manager to be honest. Raised a complaint. I was called while being on a train abroad and I was assured that AIB would pay the stamp duty as I received horrible "service" and that I will receive a statement as I wanted evidence that my balance is zero. This was a month ago on the 5th April. Never received any statement only an invoice that I owe the €30 stamp duty. Made a second complaint couple of weeks ago to which I have not received any response. No letter after 5 working days, no phone call no statement nothing. Raised a third complaint just now. I want a closing balance statement on the credit card showing that AIB actually paid the stamp duty, I also wan a compensation, I have been working in Financial Services for the last 15 years and I am familiar with procedures and I know Banks would not hesitate to report anyone to the Central Credit Register who fails to pay this Government Stamp Duty. The only thing prevents me to do so is the incompetence of staff in AIB. Will go to the Ombudsman unless I receive a lightning fast response an evidence of my current balance on the credit card.

A long lost instituation that should be sold on

An amazing bank who's managers and directors got super greedy and destroyed it in or 2008 . Now a shadow of it's former self and stuck in a time warp tech wise. It's branches are staffed with staff who have no authority to do anything other than stand there and show you how to use there telephone . They still manage to charge a kings ransom for basic transactions ..

A bank with no cash

A bank with no cash! They’ve lost the plot. My branch has been stripped. No till. Only ATMs. One rare occasion where I need a reasonable amount in cash. I can’t have my own money! Time to close both personal and company accounts then find a bank that is still a bank.

Despicable treatment and disregard for customers

Decided to switch banks as I was tired of their spiralling fees and long wait times in shabby customer areas in their branches.

Filled out a switcher request to move to my new bank and keep my account open for the transition. Although I left my account open in case of any timing issues, AIB rejected any requests that came in for payment immediately after they provided the switching information to the other bank, even though I had more than adequate funds in my account to fulful any payments.

They are an appalling bank, I will be so glad to be shot of them.

Oh! And to avail of their online saving accounts with 3% interest (nothing more special than other good offers from other banks) you need to keep a current account open with them - whereas you don't need to with the other ones. So long, you're not that special, AIB, I'm delighted to be on my way

The Bank of Toytown

Once again AIB's dreadful banking app has given up the ghost. It has been impossible to log-in for several days and having re-installed it and tried to log in I'm now getting the message " Page Expired - The page you are trying to access is no longer available. "
This bank really is an embarrassment to Ireland, specifically because there was so much tax-payer money involved in bailing it out.
It's instructive that despite all the hundreds of lousy reviews on here the bank never responds.
It could be that their IT department is too busy doing extra homework for being dunces in the school for slow kids they attend most days.
Certainly their executives are too busy with their snouts in the trough to care about what their customers think.
They ought to be ashamed of themselves but clearly are too thick to care.
I mean lads this is basic stuff that every other bank in Ireland ,particularly the digital banks, get right.
If it's all too much for your one brain cell to understand I know of a village in need of an idiot.

Like any other Irish bank. Credit Union is better

They earned two stars as you need some bank. All banks in Ireland don’t care about their customers- it’s just the way it is. Calling them is like asking for help in communism countries years ago. They don’t know the address of transaction, they force you to transfer from credit card to Revolut and back to your current account - makes sense right… It’s not gonna change this is just a mental model. Just accept it

Nothing suprising

I wanted to open account with them. It took me over an hour via their app which failed in the end. Then I had to go into their branch, which obviously had an opening time completely incompatible with working hours. Another hour or so spent in there just to figure out their system cannot handle non-ASCII characters. Characters which are present in Irish names as well? What?

All in all, not 1 star because at least the staff was friendly. They probably understand the struggles customers must face.

A one time good bank now struggles to support customers. I have been with the AIB since 1978 but the last 6-8 months has been dreadful. Faceless, Unable to pay credit cards not recognised unable to buy premium bonds. Close accounts with little or no warning. I shall of course be switching which is a terrible shame because I remember when they were one of the best around.
