Configuring Your Authorize Net Account

Setting up your Authorize Net account is easy and should take no more that 10 minutes.

DISCLAIMER: Please be advised that Authorize Net is a separate vendor to you. It is entirely your responsibility to study its offerings, security guidelines, and all other aspects of the Authorize Net service which may effect your organization. This article is simply a quick assistant to bring you up to speed, and should not be replaced by your thorough and complete study of the Authorize Net service.

You will need the login and password to your Authorize Net account. You may also need to know the answer to the 'secret question' (basically, a secondary password of sort).

Step 1 - Go to the Authorize Net website and click on the Merchant Login link at the top.

Step 2 - If this is the first time you log in (to a new Authorize Net account) Answer the survey and change the temporary password to a secure one of your choice. You may find these useful for the survey:
- Webhost Provider: AlumniMagnet
- Development Language: LAMP
- Shopping cart: Proprietary
- Shopping cart host: OmniMagnet

Step 3 - Go to the Settings screen (the link should beat the bottom left of your screen under "ACCOUNT").

Step 4 - Under Transaction Submission section:
Payment Form -> Form Fields: Make sure there are no Required Fields checked (the right-most column). If there are any fields which are required, uncheck them and submit. Then return to the Settings menu.

Step 5 - Under Transaction Response Settings
Email Receipt - make sure it is disabled (uncheck the box next to "Email transaction receipt to customer (if email address is provided"). Again, make sure it is NOT checked. Then return to the Settings menu.

Step 6 - Under General Security Settings:

  1. Test mode should be off. Your account should be in LIVE MODE! Then return to the Settings menu.
  2. Password Required Mode: check the box "Require Password for ALL Transactions" and submit. Then return to the Settings menu.
  3. "API Login ID and Transaction Key" - Obtain Transaction Key: This is VERY important. We will need to get this key from you. It is case sensitive. Be sure to Disable the Old Transaction Key. Then return to the Settings menu.

Step 7 - Go to the User Administration Menu (lefts ide of the screen - under the Settings menu link).

  1. Click on "+ Add User"
  2. User Role - Account Contact
  3. Then Click on "Next"
    - First Name: Omni
    - Last Name: Magnet
    - Title: OmniMagnet
    - Phone: 805.523.9900
    - Ext. 203
    - Email Address: yourdomain@omnimagnet.com
    (example: if your website is WhartonDC.com, the email will be 'WhartonDC.com@omnimagnet.com'. No need for 'www'.).
    - Make sure only these 4 are checked:
    Transaction Receipt
    Upload Transaction Receipt
    Upload File Summary Report
    Credit Card Settlement Report
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Click Continue on the Confirm Page .


At this point, we will need you to contact us (via phone - 805.523.9900) with your API login and Transaction Key (not your password).

A word about security: It is your responsibility to maintain that Authorize Net account and related info as one of your organization's most important assets. We recommend coming up with clear and strict procedures as to who has the login and password information (we recommend not more than 1 or 2 people). Also, we recommend you study the Authorize Net product offering and make sure you understand the security aspects of each option.
