Has anyone had this axa drivesafe in their car? Im pricing my insurance (which I thought was going to be around 750 but is now coming in around 930). They are offering 20% off just for having the box meaning it costs me 832 for the year and a potential for a further 10% saving if my driving is up to scratch. Can they cancel my policy out of the blue? Do you think its worth it?

Cheers

Too much...
I personally wouldn't have it in my car, but that's because sometimes i'd get the urge to have a 'spirited' drive which would hike the insurance no doubt .

I think its targeted at young/new drivers so that they have a bit of wits about them. I would hate to have it on my car, I dont mind paying the extra £100 a year so that my driving isn't monitered.

Also have you tried Elephant or Admiral? Cheapest companies for me by far for insurance. Im insured on a group 16 car at 21 for under £750.

Admiral and Elephant are the same company so no real surprise the quotes aren't madly different. To be honest 900 odd isn't a bad price considering your age the car and what's done to it.

I'm currently with Admiral and paying £300 on a Clio RS200.

Id of jumped at it last year its just that I was getting quotes to get an estimate so I knew what to save and they came in at 750. Its a sickener having it jump up now when I can actually purchase it...

How do the boxes work? Are you literally never allowed to exceed the speed limit, or do they have a bit of "fat" allowed for?

And if you do break their rules, do you just not get the discount at the end of the year?

In theory you can drive how you want and just not get the extra 10% but in the t's and c's it says that they can use the data for your quote next year and pass it on to other companies. Also if they see you driving pretty erratically everywhere they can not pay out in the event of a claim...

Well if I got it and just drove normally it has the potential to save a few hundred quid. But saying as admiral have now quoted cheaper there is no need!

to sicken you I got quoted £220 on the A6 today from directline

Just got a quote for the wifes Golf too. Gotta love selecting protected no claims, £0 voluntary excess etc then not pressing recalculate and taking a screen shot of the quote and build up to use to get a cheaper quote elsewhere :p.

Genius. I actually found this year putting my voluntary excess at 0 decreased my quote. Happy enough, still 150 compulsory mind

I wouldnt have it near me.

For the amount of money you save a year its not worth it. Now i am nearly sure I read somewhere that insurance companies were only going to lower insurance by 2% the first year (using the box).
I drive safe and within the law i dont feel I need to prove my driving in order to lower the insurance when my premium lowers every year anyway!

Guy in work has it and it saved him £200, insurance is still something like £1500 :confounded:

He says sure you cant drive fast on roads anyway so why not have it lol

When i was looking at changing cars recently insurance company asked if i would be interested in fitting one of there black boxes, kept pushing and hinting at how much id save so went threw the whole quotation just to see..not that i would want it fitted but thought id hear what they had to say and how much i could save but......will cost £250 to install.....and ill save a massive £20 on my insurance this year....not 20% £20 even the girl at the other end seemed a bit confussed/disappointed in that it ended up costing me money rather than saving.

As much as I agreed with all of you, that changed 3 months ago!
I passed my driving test 3 months ago, and have a seat arosa, 1.0. All my insurance quotes for 3rd party fire and theft was £1500+ ... Finally called axa and they offered me the box, and with this I got fully comp, all the cover ever needed, and for £1060... So after really not wanting the box, I went for it. The installation was free, and didn't get put in, till 2 months after my cover start date, and in the last month, I got 94%, now don't get me wrong, I did probably go over the speed limit, but in the breakdown, I got 100% on pace, and was in the 90's on the rest... So for my first year insurance, (being 20 and female) and starting my own policy. I think the box is a great idea... If it's mega savings, then go for it! But would really say, it's great for us new drivers! And to get 10% of money back, the overall score needs to be 77%+...
:grinning: Hope this may help!
