2 Outline Introduction to the Library’s e-resources? Why e-resources are important. Demonstration of finding an electronic book on the Library catalogue. Demonstration of how to find an electronic journal. Demonstration of a bibliographic database.

3 Why important? Accessible without coming into the Library. Accessible 24 hours a day. Remote access using your IT services username and password. Remember: the Library is more than its physical holdings eg. larger number of electronic journals than print journals.

5 The online Library catalogue Available from the Library web site. Lists not just print books but electronic books, print journals, DVDs and CDs. Reserve books which are on loan. Enables you to look up your library account. Renew your library books.

8 An overview of the eLibrary Over 40,000 electronic journal and newspaper titles. Over 50 research databases to find out what has been published in your subject area. Look at past exam papers from 2002 onwards.

9 Ejournals

10 What are ejournals? Ejournals are online versions of print journals. ‘Magazines’ with academic content. Usually published monthly or quarterly. Contain current research – usually primary research.

13 What are databases? Online research tools to help you find information on your topic. Many cover a specific subject, e.g. history. Others are multidisciplinary. Some contain the full text of journals, magazines and newspapers. Others index and abstract what has been written in hundreds of journals.
