All you bmi Diamond Club fans out there that also fly with Star Alliance carriers in economy, beware that bmi no longer gives points for when flying with a third party in economy unless you are paying the highest fully-flexible fare, and even then, it would seem it is at their discretion…

Once upon a time, Diamond Club allocated points for every flight on a Star Alliance carrier, but now this does not seem to be the case. So much so, I am considering whether I am best to jump ship to Miles & More, who do allocate points in every class with every Star Alliance member airline (and some LH code share partners).

Separately, has anyone else found that bmi has not allocated the relevant points to your account when using their Online Shop? On four separate occasions when I have accessed the Online Shop via my account and purchased items with the retailer has bmi NOT credited me with points for pounds spent, and on four occasions I have written to them to ask them to investigate and, sadly, no one has responded…

I had hoped that following the sale to Lufthansa, bmi would keep to their company promise and values, however, it seems that their customer service has become worse…

I wouldn’t say I was a “fan” as I don’t very often use BMI, although I recently took three Air New Zealand flights but only got points/miles for one of them.

NZ have various grades of fares across the Tasman, with basic up to “the works” which gives free baggage and meals. I had the works but no points/miles. Yet the domestic flight which was booked at the cheapest fare shown on NZ website did give me points/miles.

It is doubtful that BMI DC will exist within a few months, if BA go ahead and take the sale, subject to any delays by objections made.

Either way, as well commented on BT over a long period of time, the DC is in its last throws, whoever it ends up being taken over by, amalgamated into…DC will cease to exist. Best spend those miles before they get devalued and turned into a different less generous miles currency, especially if you use the part miles cash option.

My recent (3 weeks ago) Europe-Dubai trip on Lufthansa has still not been credited. I was going to remind them, but when I read this thread, I think I would just be wasting my time. Shame, it was a few thousand miles. Mind you, I guess I could open up a miles and more account. I was half wondering about taking advantage of their 20% extra miles promotion, but it may be throwing good money after bad. I took a look at the terms and conditions (of DC) and it seems to suggest that they can do whatever they want to the program. Very odd indeed.

I’ve had issues with getting Diamond Club miles credited for partners for years, but so far it’s just been dodgy systems. In each case if I post them their form (which prints shockingly badly) with boarding passes as required they credit the miles without question even in the lowest fare classes.

    Thanks for your comments.

MarcusUK – you make an interesting point. One would assume bmi have a lot of work to do should BA acquire the company and Diamond Club is absorbed by BA’s Executive Club, as bmi offer points not only for flights and Star Alliance members, but also through online shopping and their MBNA Amex and MasterCard credit cards… I can see a right mess before them…

However, back to my point of not crediting miles, I find it inexcusable that bmi desperately want their DC members to fly and shop with them, yet they are not prepared to reward them with points and miles. Furthermore, if the policy has changed then they have a duty to inform their customers about this. I have exhausted the bmi website looking for the information and to date it’s not available.
