Ohio BWC

Provided by Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation

Did you know Ohio has a low workplace incident rate for injury and illness compared to surrounding states? Ohio employers have a wonderful culture in taking safety seriously. Those working in Ohio’s agriculture industry continue to make safety a top priority, and the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is a strong partner in safety, offering three main ways to help.

Safety Consulting Services

BWC’s free safety consulting services link Ohio employers with a safety and health professional who will work to help reduce the risk of workplace injuries and illnesses. These consultants are available to help every Ohio employer in every industry and many specialize in the unique challenges faced by the agriculture industry. All services are offered at no cost to employers. Consultations can potentially reduce your workers’ compensation costs. Plus, scheduling a safety consultation is one of the best ways to prevent workplace injury before it happens.

Training and Education

BWC has a video library with over 600 safety and hygiene classes. Businesses can also register for virtual training center classes through the BWC online learning center. A wealth of knowledge, free training and educational resources are available for your agricultural business.

Safety Intervention Grants

Safety grants are available for a variety of business needs, including helping employers purchase equipment to substantially reduce or eliminate injuries, promoting a drug-free workplace and more. View the list of current grant opportunities available.

Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

Young Ag Professionals program
With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
