Don't be mistaken opening account with Commerz bank

This is the worst Bank ever dealing its customers based on ethnicity and nationality. if they see you are a foreigner its employees behaviors will change automatically. Secondly they will close your account without any reason whenever they want. And if you ask them about the reason they will say we can't tell you the reason since they are all senseless and illogical.

Commerzbank owe us lots of money

Commerbank has closed our bank account with thousands of euros in it. We can never speak to someone in English we have completed all the forms necessary and they have even sent us a mail saying sorry to lose you we’ve tried hard to keep you. What absolute nonsense our mortgage company is waiting for funds so we’re paying them out of our savings elsewhere and letters have been returned by the mail not having got to the destination. Absolutely criminal! Do not use this bank they are dreadful

Not reliable when you need it.

Not reliable when you need it.

I am on a holiday, and had to change my credit card limit to take the rental car. The customer support said they could not raise my limit for a few hundred euros because they need to verify my passport and I need to visit local branch. I didn’t get any information about this requirement in advance. Their inability to change my limit cost me few hundred euros due to a unnecessary rebooking.

After many years of use, I’ll be searching for a new bank.

Trying to contact the bank

I have been banking with Commerzbank (or its predecessor) for over 40 years, but they appear not to want to have contact with customers. It is impossible to find a phone number for the branch, let alone an email address of a person to contact. I have submitted an email to the central system, but after 24 hours there is still no answer. This is the worst service I have ever had.

They refuse to pay the referral bonus

So they attract new customers by promising 100 EUR for referring someone. Which I successfully did.
Then they tell you that the bonus is paid out after 3 months.
You keep waiting. After you're done waiting, you ask them where's the bonus.
And here's the kicker: they invent a new rule to back out of paying the bonus. They now claim that the new customer needs to have at least 5 transactions every month, otherwise the bonus is void. This rule is not mentioned anywhere.

A truly disgusting behavior.

P.S. I've been with Commerzbank for ~7 years. Will think about taking my business elsewhere in 2024.

Bad customer experience

It’s unbelievably hard to get a simple loan statement that I requested awhile ago. No response from anyone, customers feel like the bank doesn’t care at all

Bureucratic, 0 customer service and full of Catch-22

I have dealt with many banks, financial institutions and others. Commerzbank has the worst set up I have dealt with. In addition, there is no customer service. The hotline is a fully german machine where you will despair for hours. Its surreal... Anything needs a huge amount of paperwork, form submissions and whatnot. Even to book an appointment, you need to fill a form several times what I did to ask a mortgage on other banks. Avoid it at all costs. I just want to close my account and retrieve my cash, and already spent 4h for nothing

I would never ever deal with this bank ever again

I would never ever deal with this bank ever again!!!! The lack of service is ridiculous!! My poor mother who is 83yrs old & is living in Australia, has an old savings account with the Weiden Commerzbank & cannot get her money! She has tried to close this account for nearly a year without any luck!!! Nobody is willing or able to help her! You never get anyone’s name so you can deal with one person!!!! She has sent all the relevant details & documents to the head office in Frankfurt by registered post many times over this period. They informed us that the account would be closed & money sent to Australia where we live (still has not happened)!!!!!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡🤬. We phoned again tonight at great expense due to having to use a land line. Now we were told sorry there was a problem you will get a letter in the post which will arrive in a month!!!! In the meantime we have had a letter from Magdeburg telling her they are cancelling her account 27/2/2024 just to be told by Frankfurt head office it’s not cancelled!!!!! 😡 Is this the new German efficiency 😱😱😱😡😡😡😡. Not good enough it’s like dealing with a third world country like South Africa. I expect that in a third world country & even their banking systems are more advanced!!!!!! I expect better from German banks. I think a discussion with the banking ombudsman may eventually get my mother her money😱😡😡😡. I have read some of the other reviews & find there is a pattern of terrible service with this bank!!!!

Terrible customer service (phone)

Wish I could give negative stars. I have multiple accounts at Commerzbank for many years, but their lack of decent customer service is what will cost them customers. How difficult is it to answer politely on the phone? Rude, arrogant and not helpful. Time to switch the bank for a better customer service provider.

Amazing employee

Some employees are not too friendly in the bank but I want to say that one of them is unbelievably helpful. I totally loved the service provided by Lea Gehike in Oldenburg branch. Whenever I have questions or requests she is always nice and helpful, she is trying her best. I believe Commerzbank is lucky to have her.

Bad customer Service

Bad customer service. They are not helping us and if you get one transfer from even from EU zone, they will block the account and hold the money. Customer service cannot answer on this, bank branches cannot answer this. Therefore I will terminate the account and move to another bank. Never put all eggs into one basket.

I had an extremely frustrating…

I had an extremely frustrating experience with this bank. everything is so complicated! Their support service was abysmal, leaving me feeling unheard and ignored. Whenever I reached out for assistance, the response time was ridiculously slow, if I received any response at all. It seemed like they didn't value their customers' time or concerns.

Worst bank in the known world

Worst bank in the known world. Kundenberatungservice does not bother to answer mails at all, you get an automated number and that's it. Beschwerdemanagement (complaint centre) will send you an automated e-mail once a month asking you to wait 14 more days for their reply. After waiting this way for two months, I called the complaint centre by phone. First 3 calls they told me the lady responsible for my case was not in her office. When I called the 4th time, I was told there was no such thing as someone responsible for my case. A bunch of gangsters, not a bank. Stay away!!!

That's totally a stupid bank

That's totally a stupid bank. I filled the application form since 3 July. And now it's 9 August already and still don't have any letter with the PIN. The f***king stupid bank I've had it in my life. more than 1 month and only 3 stupid emails with only 1 account number. Germany is dying with that truly stupid economic process.

Among the best in customer support in the world

I have had many banks across the world but my experience with Commerzbank has so far been the best banking experience for the past 5 years with this bank. The customer service at the filiale is always great with English support. The App is great especially with the ability to directly call from the app to customer service. I had issues with changing my address and it was resolved quickly and amicably through calling customer service with the Banking App. Commerzbank gives so much confidence that they are on your side in terms of banking matters, and that is a good feeling.

100 € bonus to refer a friend

I've an account in Commerzbank since 3 years. I was told if I invite a friend to Commerzbank I would get 100€ bonus. Indeed I followed all the steps after referring a friend to Commerzbank. At the end my friend got the bonus and I didn't. Not about money, but yes about making me feel ignored after referring my best friend and not receiving any feedback from their side. I called the costumer care in their line and also the one in Ingolstadt and my experience was horrible. I went to the bank at Giselastraße and seems that nobody knew what to do to solve the issue. However, I will change my bank after feeling ignored and having such a bad experience. And I don't really recommend it to anyone.

I am helping my father to get in touch…

I am helping my father to get in touch with his German bank, Commerzbank. He recently transferred money to his UK account but there is still no sign of it. We tried several times to contact the Customer Service but no one picks up! He urgently needs his money, he is a pensioner who need to pay his bills. Every time, we try to email them we get the same answer...to call the customer service. How can we sort this out if no one picks up?! It's very worrying that we cannot get in touch with someone.

Warum einfach, wenn es auch kompliziert geht

Every interaction with this bank leaves you feeling frustrated.
The online bank is bad - the app worse and the local gas station gives better customer service. The people here really don't care.
