However, less thansatisfactory academic performancewill result in a review of the status toeither Conditional or Terminated. Theacademic status notification will becommunicated to you via the OASISOfficial Communication Channel (OCC).Good Standing: The student isachieving satisfactory course progresswith a Semester Weighted Average(SWA) of 50 or higher and is permittedto continue in the course and re-enrol.Conditional: The student has a SWAof less than 50 (in the range 40-49), orin the study period just ended, failed50% or more of the units they wereenrolled in. The student is permittedto continue in the course and re-enrolunder conditions as determined by therelevant Head of School. However, if astudent does not achieve a SWA of 50or more, that is “Good Standing” in thefollowing study period, the student’srecommended status will be CourseTerminated.Terminated: The student has notachieved satisfactory course progressand is terminated from the course. Thestudent is not permitted to continuein the course or re-enrol in the coursewithout the relevant approval. Extensions forassignments will only be granted inspecial circumstances such as illness.Deferred AssessmentA “DA” interim result is the formalapproval by the Board of Examiners fora student to complete an outstandingassessment task for a unit at a laterdate; outstanding assessment tasks caninclude an examination, assignment orother work.Deferment of assessment is notautomatic. Students may bepermitted by the relevant Board ofExaminers to defer an examinationor other assessment where there arecircumstances outside of their control:• a student’s overall performancemay be taken into account ingiving permission to defer anexamination;• applications for deferment onhealth grounds or as a result ofextenuating (not predictable)circumstances must be submittedno later than five (5) working daysafter the examination or afterthe due date of the assessment.Where appropriate, medicalcertificates should be attached tothe application;• dates of deferred examinations arelisted in your course materials;• a student who does not sit for thescheduled deferred exam has noclaim to a further examination.An ‘Application for a DeferredAssessment’ must be lodged with yourlocal Unit Coordinator BEFORE the duedate of the assessment task/exam. Speciallate withdrawals are assessed, basedon special circumstances. Students,who need advice and assistancewhen seeking to apply for a speciallate withdrawal, should speak totheir local <strong>Curtin</strong> provider regardingthe application. It isavailable via the My Studies & eVALUatetab inside OASIS (oasis.curtin.edu.au). eStudent provides access to yourcontact details, enrolment, study planinformation and your complete resulthistory. In eStudent you can alsoupdate your address, phone numberand other personal details. For manycourses, eStudent is also used foronline enrolment and class registration.eStudent gives you access to yourofficial student record at <strong>Curtin</strong>, andis generally where you accept or deferyour offer.Examinationson venues and time) are distributed tostudents several weeks before the startof examinations. Examinations are heldduring the day or the evening. It is thestudents’ responsibility to be availablefor all examination sessions during theexamination period.Students will not be permitted to sittheir examinations at alternative timesfor any reason, including travellingoverseas and other commitments.If a student has two examinationsscheduled at the same time or hasmore than two papers scheduled on thesame day, the student may be allowedto sit one of the papers earlier than thescheduled time. Back to StartE-FGStudent Access to ExaminationScriptsA student has right of access to all theirexamination scripts in the presence ofa local academic staff member uponformal written request to the relevantSchool. The request must be lodged withyour local <strong>Curtin</strong> Provider within ten(10) days of the official publication offinal results.Extension StudiesExtension units are offered as individualunits within a non-award program anddo not normally lead to a recognisedqualification. This is also known asa “Not for Degree” (NFD) enrolment.Extension studies do not guaranteea future place in a university awardcourse and acceptance of an ExtensionStudy Registration is dependent onapproval by the School conducting theunit. Units can be taken internally andexternally depending on availability. Amaximum of 50 credits may be enrolledin simultaneously and cumulatively.Students enrolled in a NFD programshould pay their tuition fees on the daythey are enrolled. Failure to do so maylead to enrolment cancellation.An individual enrolled in extensionunits will have no right to continuestudy beyond the period for whichinitial enrolment is approved. Howeverperformance in units previously takenon a NFD basis may be considered inassessing an application for admissionto a course leading to an award.
