#NCATGrad- “I came to A&T unsure of who I wanted to become. I just knew I needed to start somewhere. But the community here changed that, and my department chair, Dr. Simkins, was one of the first to push me. He encouraged me to apply for the AEA Summer Program, something I had never even heard of. Professors wrote recommendation letters for me without hesitation. They believed in me before I fully believed in myself.

My involvement with the Aggie Economic Association and the DCURE program transformed my academic experience. I developed skills that helped me connect theory to real-world impact and gave me confidence in what I could contribute. But what truly made A&T special was the community. Friends who celebrated each achievement as if it were their own, stayed up late helping me study for exams and cheered when my LSAT scores came back in the top percentile. That kind of support changes you. It pushes you further. It makes you believe. A&T also connected me with programs and people from every field, giving me the space to explore what truly mattered to me. Through that exploration, I was drawn to the law. Not just the rules, but the way it shapes opportunity, justice and equity. I started to see how economics and law could come together to create real change.

Dr. Minuci brought me into undergraduate research, and through that experience, I gained a deeper understanding of how systems affect people’s lives.

Then when I was ready to take the next step, A&T was still there. The university provided free LSAT prep to help me study and stay on track. That support gave me the tools and confidence to take the LSAT and pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. With a 4.0 GPA and strong LSAT performance, I was accepted to 10 law schools, offered hundreds of thousands in scholarships and will be attending Harvard Law School.

The truth is, A&T didn’t just give me an education. It reshaped what I believed was possible, and that meant everything. I don’t think my experiences are unique. They reflect what is possible when students are empowered and supported.

“I enrolled at A&T in 1988 as an architectural engineering student. I’ve always loved architecture. I still do. Frank Lloyd Wright was my favorite.

Everything went well at school, at first. But, against my parents’ wishes I decided to get a part time job for pocket money. Then I started to work a little more and go to school a little less. It got to the point where I worked full time and went to school part time. Eventually, I was just working, and school became an afterthought. I really just wanted a little more money to have my own freedom. Unfortunately, it became more than that and I never completed my degree.

I saw a post about the Aggies at the Goal Line program on Facebook. I knew it was for me.

I always promised my parents that I would finish my degree. It was going to be my little surprise to my mom, but she passed a few months before I enrolled in the summer of 2023. Regardless, completing my degree was definitely a nod and in honor of my parents. My father’s birthday was May 9. [We graduated on May 10 and Mother’s Day was May 11].

Go back and finish. It’s not how you start but how you finish. There was a slight learning curve with some of the new technology, like Blackboard, but nothing I couldn’t handle. Most importantly, be intentional. Stay focused and complete your goal.” - John Corey Steele

"I’m a fourth-generation HBCU graduate, with a rich legacy. My family's connection to HBCUs stem from my great grandfather at Kentucky State (College) University, grandmother and grandfather, at Central State University and my father at Tuskegee University. Additionally, I’m a descendant of four generations of A&T graduates.

In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I embarked on a unique journey and took a leap of faith and became the sole HBCU student from Seattle to join the A&T family in person, on campus.

As a freshman, I saw a need for deeper industry knowledge of the Video Software field and co-founded the Association of Computer Machinery Game Sig Group and led the group over the next five years, recruited corporate sponsorship and launched the inaugural North Carolina A&T Computer Game Jam competition. I’ve always had a drive to see more diversity in software engineers and personally secured partnerships with UBER, Visa, Activation, and Epic Games.

While at A&T have honed and strengthened my software development skills and completed three paid summer internships, one semester CO-OP and one study-abroad program to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with the prestigious Black Launchpad Entrepreneurship Program.

It was my honor to coordinate a summer internship opportunity for 20 of my fellow Aggies with Activision in Hollywood, California.

#NCATGrad- “During my time at A&T, I started my own student-led organization called ‘Building Our Successful Sisters (B.O.S.S)’ that has helped many minority collegiate women gain access to professional development resources." After graduation, I plan on developing B.O.S.S into a consulting business, helping minority women gain access into top professional degree programs.

My time at A&T has been one of growth and development, academic excellence and service. It has been an honor to receive two full-ride scholarships, which helped me to pursue my degree in Health Services Management.

Following graduation, I will be attending the number four law school in the country – the University of Virginia. Additionally, I was selected for a highly competitive fellowship, the SEO Law Fellowship where I will intern with a large law firm this summer before beginning law school.
