Frequently Asked Questions

 

Q.  Once my phone is paired with SYNC, is it necessary to have my phone in the car to make and receive calls?
A.  Yes. The SYNC system itself is not a phone, it simply connects to your phone allowing you to talk hands-free.

Q.  How many phones can I pair to the SYNC system?
A.  You may pair up to twelve phones. However, only one phone can be connected at a time.

Q.  Why can't I pair my iPhone/Blackberry/Droid/Smartphone?
A.  Most smartphones only accept four-digit Bluetooth pins. To get a four digit pin from your SYNC system, simply press the seek buttons when the six-digit pin is displayed. Once you see the option "special pin" press OK. If you have a navigation system or MyFord Touch, turn discoverable/visible mode on (on your smartphone). Then press the "Find Other Devices" button.

Q.  Are there any phones that do not work with SYNC?
A.  The following phones do not work with SYNC:

    Motorola v710 (firmware version unknown)
    Palm 755P (firmware version unknown)
    Samsung Gleam (firmware version U700.AG07)
    Samsung Juke (firmware version U470.AH23)
    Samsung M300 (firmware version M300AE07)
    Samsung SCH-A870 (firmware version A870.ZD09)
    Samsung SCH-A990 (firmware version A990.ZH07)
    Samsung Flight (firmware version unknown)
    Sprint LG Rumor (firmware version LX260V06)
    Spring Samsung M510a (firmware version ESM510 AC19)

Q.  How do I make a call using my SYNC system?
A.  Press the voice button. After the prompt, say "Call ". If you would like to dial a number say "Dial".

Q.  How do I get my iPod/mp3 player to play?
A.  Once you have your device plugged into the USB port, press the voice button and say "USB." If you plug it into the Line In port, say "Line In".

Q.  Can I stream through my Bluetooth device?
A.  Yes! Once your device is connected through Bluetooth, press the voice button and say "Bluetooth audio".

Q.  I'm registered for SYNC services. How do I access it in my vehicle?
A.  Press the voice button and say "services".

Q.  How long will my complimentary SYNC services subscription last?
A.  Three years from the purchase of your vehicle.

Q.  Where do I go to retrieve my Vehicle Health Reports (VHR)?
A.  Your Vehicle Health Reports can be retrieved under your account at syncmyride.com.


Device-Specific Tips


iPhone

Keep the iPhone's firmware/software up-to-date through iTunes

To find the Bluetooth Settings menu, press Settings > General > Bluetooth > On/Off

If experiencing any sound distortion, turn Wi-Fi off and any apps which use a lot of power, like email notifications

To reboot, press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously until the apple logo appears

To access favorite contacts only, press Settings > General > Bluetooth > SYNC. Press the arrow next to SYNC > set Favorites On > check None under Other


Blackberry

In Bluetooth Options, set Allow Outgoing Calls to always and set Connect on Power Up to yes

Under Bluetooth Device Properties, Trusted - set to yes

Under General Options, Default Call Volume - set to previous

Re-boot the device if experiencing connection problems, like no sound or stuck in thinking mode by removing the phone's battery, waiting 3  seconds, reinstalling the battery and powering up the device


Android

To find the Bluetooth Settings menu, press Settings > Wireless & Networks > check the box next to Bluetooth > when the box shows a  green checkmark, press Bluetooth Settings > Discoverable > Scan for Devices

Some early versions of the Android operating system only allow a 4-digit PIN. When pairing and the 6-digit PIN appears on screen, press "Edit" to generate a Special PIN (e.g., 0000 or 1234), then press "Enter" to save it. The new PIN is ready to enter into the phone

Power down often to give the phone a fresh start

Repair the phone to SYNC after adding applications to make sure everything is working properly

Re-boot the device if experiencing connection problems, like no sound or stuck in thinking mode, by removing the phone's battery, waiting 3 seconds, reinstalling the battery and powering up the device
