I had a quick look at the homepage (~30 seconds) and already found the answer to your question (under Documents/Project Intro):

Quote:
Firts Boot.

If you did not customize user/group and passwords, the default root account is passwordles. Enjoy ;-)

Have you followed the instructions on their homepage under under Documents/Project Intro?
It provides you with the necessary information how to set it up correctly.

Again: Have you read the Project Intro on the homepage?
If no, do that!

No it's not just a boot cd, it's a toolset to generate a custom live cd.
I guess that's why you have no commands working, because you didn't put any of them on the cd, did you?
Just read, and you will find out.

I don't know of any freeBSD live cd's (or do you just need a boot cd?).

If read it, what point did confuse you exactly? What didn't you understand.
You have to be more precise about your problem, since i can't (or don't want to) provide you with a full instruction.

(e.g. SuSE, Knoppix, SoL...)

The difference is that on a linux live cd you have a linux system, on a bsd live cd you have a bsd system. Both are unix derivates, but they have a different kernel (different project, different development team).
Now if you don't have any bsd system, you can't customize your live bsd.
