We’ve Made Our Website Safer JANUARY 2007

MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION PROCESS

As a service, we have provided you, our members, with enhanced security when you access your ABCO Federal Credit Union information online @ our website www.goabco.org. These changes have to do with how you identify yourself and gain access to your accounts over the internet.

This new login process is called Multi-Factor Authentication and provides an additional layer of protection that is considered to be a more reliable and stronger deterrent against account hijacking and identity theft. From now on, when you sign in to our website you will be using Multi-Factor Authentication. As part of Multi-Factor Authentication, you will be asked to complete a one-time quick and easy enrollment the first time you login to your online ABCO Federal Credit Union account. You will now need to know your MEMBER NUMBER – your Social Security number will not be accepted for login. Your Member Number is located on your Quarterly Statement in the upper right hand corner. Your PIN that you have created previously will remain the same.

During this initial enrollment, you will be asked to create five security questions and answers and create a phrase or description to go along with a security image. Then, each time you return to login, your image and phrase will be displayed, so you will know immediately that it is safe to enter your PIN. To make your login experience easier, you can register your computer. By doing so, each time you

login from that computer we will recognize you immediately. If you ever login from an unregistered computer, we will ask you to answer one of your personal security questions to ensure your identity.

The one-time enrollment process is easy and will take just a minute or two. By having this additional layer of security, you will be confident that you are on the authentic online banking website for your ABCO Federal Credit Union accounts. No other user or website would be able to display the image and phrase you choose. Enhanced security procedures will add a way to help combat “Pharming” – a scam that tries to lure you to a website that resembles the ABCO website. Once at this bogus site, scammers attempt to convince you to give them your personal account information. Remember, only the ABCO Federal Credit Union site will display the security information you submit and your security image. To learn more about this process, please visit our website @ www.goabco.org and click on Electronic Authentication in the “In The News Section” or visit the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council website: www.ffiec.gov/press/pr101205.htm Any questions, please do not hesitate to call either your local Branch Office or our Toll-Free Number 1-800-225-1859.

NEW YEAR REMINDER All members must maintain a minimum balance of $50.00 at all times in their Primary Share (Savings) Account. Please take a look at your Quarterly Statement to ensure that you have the minimum balance in your account. Effective March 1, 2007, a less than minimum balance charge of $1.50 per month will be assessed for all Primary Share (Savings) Accounts whose balance is less than $50.00. If you do not have the minimum balance, be sure to deposit or transfer an amount to bring your balance up to the $50.00 minimum. You may transfer in person, by phone or online. Any questions, give us a call.

THE 31% CREDIT CARD TRAP

You started out with a 15.98% APR credit card interest rate. You were late one or two payments. Suddenly your rate balloons to 31%. We call that the 31% Trap! ABCO does not change your rate in this manner. Plus, your initial rate may be a lot lower. Another advantage is that ours is a fixed rate – YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO PAY EACH MONTH. You can even pay your bill online by transferring funds – ANOTHER SAVINGS IN POSTAGE AND CHECK COSTS.

With all these advantages, isn’t it time to put the yellow ABCO Visa card in your wallet!

THINK ABCO! Don’t Have A Credit Card? You don’t have to pay a high rate or go without a credit card. Let us help you look for a way to get or establish credit. Contact us for a confidential consultation.

Yes, we have STUDENT VISAs!

A VISA credit card is available to students with credit limits up to $2,000. With credit so very important, this is a good way to begin to establish a credit history. Properly used, it is an excellent way to purchase incidentals such as books, clothing, etc., in school. If you (or your child) have a Student VISA Card from somewhere else, you could be paying more than you should. Or, you could have fees, terms and conditions that increase your rate.

Let us help you compare. For VISA credit cards, contact any Branch Office or call toll-free @ 1-800-225-1859.

TAX TIPS FOR 2006 RETURNS Get Your Tax Refund QUICKLY With IRS Direct Deposit

Hoping to encourage savings, the IRS has announced a new change to its Direct Deposit Program. Your refund can now be split into up to three accounts. You can choose among regular savings, share draft (checking) or retirement accounts (IRAs). The IRS will have a new Form 8888 to help. This will add more convenience and flexibility to your savings options – especially retirement savings. In order to do this you will need to know two important details – 1. Our Routing and Transit Number - 2312-7827-4 2. Your Member Number – which is on the upper right hand corner of your statement. See your tax advisor for more information on these and other options from which you can choose. IRA CHANGES Starting in tax year 2006, you can put away more money for retirement. Here are a few examples: • 401(k) pay – in maximum increases to $15,000 • Employees born before 1957 can contribute an additional $5,000 to their 401(k), 403 (b) and 457 plans in addition to maximum pay increase noted above. • Filers 50 or over can put an additional $1,000 into an IRA or Roth IRA over and above the $4,000 permitted for other filers. There is also an IRA boost for the Military. Military personnel serving in combat zones and receiving taxfree combat pay can put that money into an IRA thanks to a new law, the Heroes Earned Retirement Opportunities Act (HERO Act). This law permits eligible military personnel to make retroactive contributions for 2004 and 2005 as well. Contact ABCO to learn....... • How to take advantage of IRS Direct Deposit • How to best use of the new split deposits option • Which are the best savings and retirement products to match YOUR needs • How to make the most of your 2006 tax savings.

Over 62? Let Your Home Pay You! ABCO Now Offers Reverse Mortgages ... Here’s How It Works.

A reverse mortgage works as it implies ... the reverse of standard mortgages. Instead of paying a mortgage company...they pay you! Reverse mortgages are for those 62 or older with little or no mortgage and pays a lump sum, credit line or monthly payment, as a loan on the equity in your home. Just like any mortgage, the mortgage company will have a lien on your title, but also like any mortgage you remain the property owner. You can sell or bequeath your home at any time, just like you can any other property with a mortgage. Who is eligible? Occupying homeowners over 62 with equity in their homes. There are no income or credit requirements because you won’t be

making any payments. How much can I get? The amount you can receive depends on three factors – your age, equity and the current rates. We can tell you in just a minute with one phone call. How do I receive the money? You can choose from several options or a combination of choices. 1) A lump sum, 2) a line of credit, 3) a monthly payment that is guaranteed to go on for as long as you live in the home, 4) a term payment that last for a predetermined amount of years. It is common for borrowers to choose a combination of choices such as a lump sum to pay off an existing loan like a car, putting some aside in the form of a credit line for any

unexpected need and take the remainder in the form of a monthly payment to supplement income. No payment is due until you leave your home. Should you decide to move you pay the mortgage balance at closing with the proceeds as you would any mortgage. Should you leave the home to your heirs they have the same option of selling, or paying the balance or refinancing and keeping the home. You or your heirs will never owe more than the equity in the home – no matter how long you live, how much you have in assets or how much money you received! NEVER! You can not possibly leave your heirs with more debt than equity.

For complete details and to see if a reverse mortgage is right for you, contact the Mortgage Department
