A 28-year-old Westgate man pleaded guilty this week in Fayette County District Court to hacking into his ex-girlfriend's email account and sending explicit photos to her parents.
Jonathan Steinbronn filed a written plea of guilty Monday to unauthorized computer access. The case was continued and hearing was set 10:30 a.m. Dec. 20.
University of Iowa police contacted the Fayette County Sheriff's Office June 15, that Steinbronn had accessed a student's e-mail account. He used it to send explicit photos to the student's parents.
Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant at Steinbronn's residence near Westgate, and computer evidence was recovered, authorities said.
Steinbronn seized his ex-girlfriend's University of Iowa “Hawkmail” account, and her a “Yahoo,” “Myspace,” and Facebook email accounts and sent emails to her family because they wouldn't open emails from him, according to a criminal complaint.
