How to Disconnect Spotify from Facebook

This article explains how to disable Facebook login on Spotify and prevent the two apps from sending data to each other using either the desktop or mobile app.

How to Disable Facebook Login on Spotify

If you no longer want to use Facebook to log in to Spotify, you need to create a separate password.

  1. Go to spotify.com.

  2. Click Log in.

  3. Click Forgot your password?

  4. Input the email address you use for your Facebook account. You can change that email on Facebook if you want. Click Send.

  5. Check your email and click the reset link. Enter a password and click Send.

  6. Now you can log in using your Facebook email address and new password.

How to Disconnect Spotify from Facebook

If you signed up for Spotify by email and later connected Facebook, you can disconnect the two accounts and retain your listening history and preferences. You can only do this from the desktop app, though, not on a smartphone or tablet.

  1. Open the Spotify desktop app.

  2. Click the down arrow next to your name.

    If you signed up for Spotify with Facebook, you can't disconnect the accounts through Spotify. You'll have to go to your Facebook profile to do this, or you can create a new account and choose a different sign-in method, such as email, Google, or Apple.

How to Remove Spotify's Access to Your Facebook Account

However you log into Spotify, you can unlink your account from Facebook. The instructions below outline how to prevent Spotify from accessing your Facebook account, posting to your timeline, and more.

Before you proceed, make sure you have a separate password for Spotify, as this will also disable logging in via Facebook.

  1. Log into your Facebook account.

  2. Click on the dropdown arrow next to your profile icon.

  5. Scroll down and select Apps and Websites from the left pane.

  6. Find the Spotify app and choose Remove.

  8. If you want to delete past activity from Spotify, tick the box next to Delete posts, videos or events Spotify posted on your timeline.

  9. Click Remove.

How to Remove Facebook's Access to Your Spotify Data

You can continue using Facebook to log in to Spotify, while also blocking the social network from accessing your listening history and other data. You can do this from the website or the desktop or mobile app. 

  1. Log into your Spotify account on a desktop browser. Click Profile > Account.

  2. Click Privacy Settings from the left navigation menu.

  3. Toggle off Process my Facebook data in the Manage your data section.

  4. Click YES – TURN OFF in the confirmation window.

Remove Facebook's Access to Your Spotify Data on Mobile

You can also disconnect Spotify from your Facebook account using the Facebook app for Android and iOS.

  1. Tap the menu icon with the three horizontal bars.

  2. Select Settings & Privacy.

  3. Tap Settings.

  4. Scroll down to the Permissions heading and select Apps and Websites.

  5. Choose Spotify from the list of apps and websites you've linked to your Facebook account.

  6. Select Remove.

  7. Confirm the items you want to delete and select Remove again.

Before You Disconnect Spotify From Facebook

When you disconnect your Spotify and Facebook accounts, you'll no longer be able to log in with Facebook, and you'll have to remember another password. Plus, you'll miss out on some social features.
