Affinity is giving me a chance to build my credit. I cannot thank them enough! Their online banking makes it easy to keep track of my spending and simplifies the banking experience!
I chose Affinity Plus for the lower APR rate on a car loan, and although I secured a lower rate, I paid more in stress, time, and discomfort. The woman I worked with, Kimberly, procrastinated throughout the entire process and made multiple clerical errors, such as mistakenly sending the check by standard mail instead of overnight. This error caused my car loan process to extend over a week. It was the week before Labor Day weekend, and she left early, indifferent to the urgency of the check she was supposed to expedite. I had to call UPS and drive to their warehouse to retrieve my check, without receiving any follow-up correspondence from Kimberly.
Additionally, as this was my first car purchase, I did not realize the necessity of obtaining car insurance immediately, nor was I explicitly informed of this requirement. I began receiving emails requesting proof of insurance for the loan, which I promptly attempted to provide. However, in the state of California, insurance coverage takes 14 days to activate. Unfortunately, there was a period during which the car was uninsured due to my oversight of this critical information. Although I wish I could turn back time and add insurance retroactively, it is not possible. Thankfully, nothing happened to the car during that time. Nevertheless, they still issued a certificate of collateral insurance to cover the uninsured period and added a $1,000 charge to my loan. All things considered, I advise you to avoid Affinity Plus.
My wife and I were looking to move banks. We weren’t happy with the interest rates for loans we were continually quoted by our bank of over 15 years. For context, we have excellent credit (800+ rating) and rarely have overdrafts or late fees.
The research into Affinity was promising. We regarded app. Higher saving account interest rates. Seemingly community minded. Plenty of in-person access, if needed. Generally positive reviews.
We agreed this would be our new bank and started the application process. (At this point, I should point out that I’m black and my wife is white.) We endeavored to open a joint account with her as the account owner. Her application went through without incident and was approved. Mine was a different story. I provided the exact same kinds of credentials she did to open the account but was told my documents were insufficient. I asked why I needed to provide such deeper documentation to be a co-owner of an account and the response was, “it is policy.”
Now, I don’t blame the woman I spoke to for the policy. My wife and I had separate conversations with the bank managers. I take issue with the bank that has these discriminatory policies in place then hides behind them. Systemically racist rules exist in the world. Acknowledging the problem and doing something about it helps us move forward. A company burying its head in the sand does nothing to improve things. Obviously, we didn’t open accounts there. I’m thankful that we figured out how the bank operates before we really started with them.
We did end up finding a new bank. The application process was the same for both of us and I feel welcome each time I chose a face to face interaction in a branch.
I’m giving 4 stars because I love this bank and they have been so helpful to me and my daughter over these past years. I think I been with Affinity since 2004 till now, but on 12May2023 was my first time feeling someone made me feel like I didn’t deserve to have access or account at the bank. I have a part time job that doesn’t have a direct deposit and for some reason the check cut out the numbers on it so I can’t do an online deposit which I understand, so I have to go to the bank every other week to deposit my checks . On May 12th I when to the bank to deposit my check and I got the misfortune of talking to Aisling S at the Roseville branch and it was sad. There was a misunderstanding with my line of credit account that I didn’t understand who it could have happened because I had that account for over 10 years I think with no problem at all. I made a change of payment because of my personal loan account and the payment for the line of credit didn’t get put back in. I try explaining it to her that it might’ve been a mistake but she will not listen, then she told me that I owe $45 dollars so I told her to take it out of my account, after I pay that she came back to say oh it was to be $75 dollars, after that I just wanted to talk to a manager but she told me there was no manager and she was was the team leader so I could only talk to her. When I try to leave she told me that she wasn’t done with me. After few minutes standing there looking at her, she proceeded to tell me I was free to go like I was in prison, so I told her I wasn’t in jail and I was free to go anywhere I wanted. This was my worst experience at Affinity ever. She didn’t appear to have any sympathy for how my account was handled or to apologize for it at all. My credit is involved so I’m very hesitant to see what happened to my credit.

I've had an open personal loan for almost two years with no issues, in fact I've always paid more than the minimum payment every month. Not realizing my automatic payments weren't set up, I missed a payment and it went over 30 days past due. I was not notified until my payment was 35 days late and a missed payment was reported to my credit reports. My score dropped 80+ points! I reached out to Affinity Plus management only to find out they're absolutely unwilling to help. I would recommend finding a credit union who actually value real people instead of the image they portray.

I LOVE AFFINITY!!!! THEY ALWAYS IMPRESS ME!!! My only suggestion would be that its slow to process payment info and account transactions are kind of confusing on the app but it's very minor! They have the best customer service I have ever had!!!! They reduced they're fees and penalties and gave ALL customers $100 "bumper" on they're accounts free of charge! They are always there for me no matter what. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️?

This is the worst bank ever. First of all, there is no 24 hour service. It is difficult to use online banking because it is often said that it is in maintenance. Customer service is completely unfriendly. Especially customer service talking over the phone. I have been using this bank for a very long time, and I have only opened a dispute once because of a scam. But even that was rejected. I will never use this bank again and you have lost another customer. not recommended. Most of the staff working on the phone are rude and unprofessional and didn‘t even try to help resolve an issue. and I‘ve cancelled my membership due to this issues. Please use wells fargo, chase, bankofamerica or citibank instead. The bank that people use a lot is there for a reason.

Best mortgage rates around. I refinanced to a 10 yr. And got a rate of 1.875! Affinity has checking accounts that pay higher interest than savings accounts. You earn points for banking and can get gift cards and other stuff.

One of the perks of banking with a small credit union should be customer service. The staff at the Affinity branches are great, but if you ever have an issue that involves going to the main Affinity customer service line...be ready to be very disappointed. That staff was rude and didn‘t even try to help resolve an issue. I had been a member for over 13 years, and I‘ve cancelled my membership due to this issue.
I've been a member of Affinity Credit Union, for over 5 years. The local office in Edison NJ has terrific employees. The corporate office doesn't care about it's customers. Could care less on resolving issues they created. They should be ashamed of themselves.
