iteachUS | Teacher Timeline

Once accepted into the iteachTEXAS program, a candidate has two full school years in which to complete all certification requirements, including the Field Experience.

When a candidate obtains a Field Experience position, he or she must complete all program certification requirements by the end of the Field Experience. The following timeline provides an overview of how an individual progresses through the teacher certification program. (This is an ideal scenario and may not hold true for each candidate depending on individual circumstances.)

Application

  • An applicant completes the application online.
  • He or she pays the evaluation fee of $50.00 by credit card at the time the application is submitted. The evaluation fee is a non-refundable fee.
  • The applicant receives access to the instructNET instructional platform to track their application status.
  • The applicant mails official transcripts with conferred degree date to:

        iteachTEXAS
        P.O. Box 1626
        Denton, Texas 76202

  • The applicant completes intruVIEW, an online screening interview, on the instructNET learning platform.
  • Applications are retained for six months. If a completed packet is not submitted within six months, the application is destroyed to ensure the security of applicants’ personal information.

Evaluation

  • The applicant receives notification of their program status via messages.
  • Upon acceptance into the program, the applicant gains online access to the Letter of Agreement (LOA).
  • Completed application packets are retained for six months. If the Letter of Agreement is not acknowledged and/or the non-refundable access fee of $375 is not paid within six months, the packet is destroyed to ensure the security of candidates’ personal information.

Program Acceptance

  • Within a week from the time the candidate acknowledges the Letter of Agreement, pays the non-refundable access fee of $375, he or she receives:
    • An official Letter of Acceptance.
    • Instructions to establish a personal account with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), apply for a Probationary Certificate and submit fingerprints.
    • Access to the instructional courses; the six-month time frame for completion will begin on this date.
    • Access to content area certification testing.
  • Once accepted into the program, candidates have two full school years in which to complete all certification requirements including the Field Experience. Once a candidate begins his or her Field Experience position, he or she must complete all program requirements by the end of the Field Experience.

Certification Test(s)

  • A candidate is eligible to test in any content area. However, iteachTEXAS encourages candidates to select TExES content area tests based on their educational background, i.e. choose tests over subjects in which they have taken significant college hours, to ensure the best probability of passing the test.
  • If a candidate is seeking special education certification, he or she will need to pass a specific content area test, i.e., EC–6 Generalist or 4–8 Generalist, and the EC-12 Special Education test to indicate content mastery of a core content area.
  • The candidate takes the TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities test (PPR) only after he or she:
    • Passes the appropriate content test (and Bilingual Target Language Proficiency
Test [BTLPT] and Bilingual Supplement Test if applicable)
    • Completes the instructional courses, EDTC 5000-5600
    • Obtains a Field Experience position or pays the instructional fee in full

Instructional Courses

  • A candidate gains access to the instructional courses once the Letter of Agreement and non-refundable access fee of $375 is received by iteachTEXAS. The six month timeline will begin on the date a candidate is enrolled in EDTC 5000.
  • The introductory course, EDTC 5000, and the six instructional courses, EDTC 5100 – EDTC 5600, are self-paced, although progress is required during a six-month time frame.
  • Candidates are permitted to progress from one course to the next course at a rate no faster than one course per 10 days after enrollment into EDTC 5100.
  • If a candidate does not complete the final instructional course, EDTC 5600, within six months from being enrolled in EDTC 5000, he or she may request permission to receive an additional three months to complete the coursework with the payment of the instructional renewal fee.

Field Experience

  • A candidate may begin securing a Field Experience position as soon as he or she is accepted into the iteachTEXAS program and fulfills the initial requirements of:
    • 30 hours of observation
    • Completion of EDTC 5000
    • Completion of EDTC 5100
    • Content test passed or proof of highly qualified status based on 24 hours in a content area with 12 of those hours completed in upper-level courses
    • Completed payment plan form
  • Once a candidate has fulfilled the initial requirements listed above, he or she receives a Statement of Eligibility. This form is provided to school districts for verification of eligibility for Field Experience. Once a candidate obtains a Field Experience, he or she must complete all of the program requirements by the end of the Field Experience placement.
  • Candidates are enrolled in a field experience course, Field Experience – The Classroom Teaching Experience, when they begin their Field Experience.
  • If hired, the candidate is recommended by iteachTEXAS for a Probationary Certificate. Candidates cannot be recommended for a Probationary Certificate until they have demonstrated content mastery either through college hours or testing.
  • Candidates are assigned a Field Supervisor for their Field Experience.
  • The candidate’s Personal Payment Plan is implemented during the Field Experience.

A candidate is recommended for a Standard Teaching Certificate after successfully fulfilling the following program requirements:

  • Completing the instructional courses and the EDTC 5800 Comprehensive Review.
  • Passing the required certification tests: a content test or tests (and Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test [BTLPT] and Bilingual Supplement Test if applicable), and the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities test (PPR).
  • Completing the Field Experience with recommendation from field supervisor and campus administrator.
  • Submitting required reflections in Field Experience – The Classroom Teaching Experience.
  • Paying all program fees.
  • Submitting the evaluation exit survey.
