[Solved] How to activate Num Lock on the KDE login screen?
« on: September 26, 2020, 08:27:40 AM »
Hello everyone,

Once again here why I never leave here, and everyone knows it is my and the support site of any Linux distro.

So, my installation is as follows, I downloaded the ISO of PCLinuxOS BR LxQt, in it I put the task-kde-plasma so far everything smooth. But then PCLinuxOS uses another login manager and of course PCLOS BR LxQt has left KDE inheritance.

And I can't activate Num Lock right on the login screen, where on the other KDE system I use it is very easy to do this following this tip from Creto [Tip] If there is a problem with the activation of the Num Lock key

So that said, let's get to my doubts and thank you for the suggestions:

1 - Since PCLinuxOS does not use sddm , would it be possible to install it without any problem?

2 - If sddm installation is possible, how to change from what PCLinuxOS uses by default to sddm?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Configure your Computer - Boot - Set up display manager ......  and there make your selection.

I am using SDDM.

Configure your Computer --> system --> Manage system services --> check "on boot" for numlock --> click OK

Doesn't matter what display manager you are using

@ Creto,

Or, ...

Open Control Center --> System --> Enable or Disable System Services ---> scroll down to 'numlock' and check (click in the square) <startup>.
Close Control Center.

The next time your system starts up, numlock will be enabled automatically.

1. You can also make sure each login activates numlock in System Settings:

Activate "Turn on" in Hardware -> Input devices -> Keyboard -> Numlock on Plasma Startup

2. Avatars for SDDM are stored in /usr/share/sddm/faces/. Naming is always <username>.face.icon (e.g. creto.face.icon)  ;)

In order to have NumLock on in SDDM, open up /etc.sddm.conf and make sure that the top three lines are as follows...

Code: [Select]
[General]
InputMethod=
Numlock=on

Hello everyone

Lets go!

Configure your Computer - Boot - Set up display manager ......  and there make your selection.

I am using SDDM.
What I did here was, PCCC> Startup> Configure graphical login > sddm > Ok

Still in the PCCC, System> Manage system services> check> numlock and restart

I thank everyone for their availability to assist me @decadeNT, @CrankyZombie, @mutse, @tbschommer, @Aragon!!

And also to my PCLinuxOS teacher @agentsmith

Best regards,
Paulo Creto

Hi again,

1. You can also make sure each login activates numlock in System Settings:

As the user manager was mentioned here, I found it strange that PCLinuxOS could not change it graphically (GUI)

See on my other KDE, (BigLinux):

That I can also upload a file (image) directly from my /home

I did not find this possibility in PCLinuxOS, I ask, does it not come with KDE Plasma from PCLinuxOS?

Thank's
Paulo Creto
